Thank you so much,
Amy and
Brelly!
Amy, so glad you like this dress that much! I wanted to put frilly lace on the overskirt, and may go back and change that someday since I realized how to do it recently, but until then, thank you, I really do like it, too!
Brelly, I love all these questions! First one, yes, when making this design, I wanted Cinderella's Mother to remind us of the Perrault fairy godmother, and the HBC one has an 18th century dress, so I was thinking of that while making it. Since the Grimm's Red Riding Hood is actually Little Red Cap, but ITW uses the hood, and the Grimm's Sleeping Beauty is Briar Rose, but ITW calls her Sleeping Beauty, I figured I can cross fairy tales like they did. I was also indeed thinking of the 1950 Disney Cinderella's mother's and mice dress for the design with the pink bows and ribbons.
Your next question - hehe, my autism spectrum disorder has made Cinderella my biggest obsession for my life. So, I have designed costumes and hair for aaaaalll the things you wondered if I would design for! Unfortunately, I would like to keep a lot of those designs private in case I ever got to make them for real. And I think I owe you more explanation. I am indeed making my own "ultimate" Cinderella project. It will be a graphic novel with music. I don't know if the songs would be downloads or if it will come with a CD like those Disney Read-Alongs, but something like that. It will be the original Perrault fairy tale, but with a few touches of my own to make it unique. The designs will be set in the 17th century since there are clues in the original text that make it sound like it was set there. In all honesty, a true ultimate Cinderella would be taking the best stuff from the best versions, but alas I can't do that due to copyright. I think I came up with a good version myself, though. If it makes enough money, I wanna use some of that money to fund a movie version of R+H's Cinderella or a Broadway version of Disney's or something. I even wonder about getting Alan Menken or Pasek & Paul to flesh out my songs into a whole score to do my version as a movie. So, I gotta keep art for these projects under wraps.
But, but, as my graphic novel gets closer to being published, I will preview some stuff here, because there will be less threat of it getting stolen by randos and used in other people's stuff.
By the way, The Little Mermaid is your favorite story, right
Brelly? I mean, it's your favorite movie after Mary Poppins. My imagination is blocked from under the sea stuff. I love The Little Mermaid and watching or looking at good versions of it, but I could never design my own version. But I may do DIsney TLM stuff. I want to make at least one TLM poster in a collection of princess posters, which could be the next stuff I start posting after this ITW project is done. But as you probably know, Cinderella is just what I'm hyper-focused on. Thanks for your interest, really!
Today's drop: The Mysterious Man!
He is dual played by our Narrator, so it's Dick Van Dyke again! I found a painting of a man in a 1600s coat and hat I used as reference (I can't search for it now, but if you wanna see it, just ask, maybe this weekend!) but putting slashes to be bread scoresin his sleeves makes him look 1500s! Oh well! He is an old, old man and this is imaginary production of mine does have some mixing of different eras!
"When first I appear, I seem mysterious..."
