It's funny you say that. We forgot that the Renaissance era had only Ursula, when the Post-Renaissance era had only Yzma.
And if we only take into consideration the last 15 years, we had Mother Gothel, Bellwether, Te Ka, Namaari and Alma Madrigal (and now this Matangi). Saying that "we've had so few female antagonists in the past 15 years" is a bit exaggerated, since none of these were actually critically-panned or treated as a joke.
Let`s not forget Narissa from Enchanted.

Oh real quick, here is the logo for the new short from Walt Disney Animation Studios called “Versa”.

Though still no word on if this short will play with Moana 2 (or Mufasa: The Lion King) yet.

In present day (from what I've seen in social media) activists ask for villains of color, it's considered cool to be a villain nowadays

As long as that villain is a not considered evil for being darker activists from social media will not have any problem

Btw I like her design, I don't get why people are disliking her design
I don't like her because I find her simple like one of these Ladybug's villains. Nothing from her design is attractive to me.
People use to have different tastes and that’s all right.

I agree, Thumper_93, it’s okay to have different tastes about these things.

How does that old TLM TV show song go… “If there was only one note/How boring life would be/I’m glad there are so many notes/In many different keys

Here’s a brand new special look of Disney’s Moana 2, in theaters in 50 days: https://youtu.be/JdSl4RMNtGE?si=RW_R3pJpQ0eI3YaJ.

Well, I’m glad they’re showing off more of the new characters, teasing the new songs without revealing them in full, and teasing the new villains, along with revealing the god of storms will talk. The only question now is who’s voicing the god of storms.

Also, this special look feels more like a trailer than a spot, which the “We’re Back” sneak peek felt like.

Oh and we have a new poster, too.

I'm expecting the little star fish to play some significant role later in the film.

Any reason they're calling it a "special look" and not just "trailer 3"?

Now that we've seen the villain in animation, I can say I'm not fond of her character design. Her overly oval head shape, her prominent canine teeth, and her hairstyle make her look both masculine and quite plain and unmemorable at the same time. The British accent doesn't mesh with the design either.

It's so predictable that she's going to help them by the end.

Well the voice actress is from New Zealand so her accent may sound strange to some of you guys. Though I do agree that the female villain doesn't sound appealing at all, but we've only heard one line from her so I don't want to judge too early. However, considering Disney's recent shortcoming I can't say I have much hope for this one. Hopefully, the malevolent god of storm will be interesting.

Bats aren’t canines, dude. That’s why she has those fanged teeth, because she’s a bat villain. Also, it’s a New Zealand accent, not British accent.

Well, I`m with everyone else: The Special Look seemed more like a final trailer than a special look. Overall, I liked it, as there were many beautiful shots and parts. It`s remarkable how An Innocent Warrior was played with a different rendition. Which makes me wonder if it`s going to be in the movie. The part with Hei Hei crashing against the tree trunk was hilarious. However, what I disliked was the design of the new monster. The song at the end was catchy, though, and sounds like a blend of How Far I`ll Go and Knowing What I Know Now from Wish. The villainess seemed appealing, though and hopefully better than last years lackluster Magnifico. The part of Maui dancing against blue background seem like if it`s going to be from another comical number like You`re Welcome. It`s remarkable how the spirit of Gramma Tala is going to be also in the movie. But all in all, everything about this sequel just screams Deja Vu from it`s predecessor.

As for the new poster, I liked it. Moana looked very beautiful on the poster.

I don’t think Faerb knows that nor knows what she’s talking about and is just speaking out of cynicism and jadedness.

Quite... Uninspired character design? Can't wait to see the art books to see "what could/should have been"...

But it's valid to not like it

As I said she looks bad to me. Her design is lazy, she doesn't have anything attractive and she looks even worst in this new trailer that they released. These expressions that they use now to animate characters look really ugly to me. It makes them look silly and stupid, you can't take them seriously. She looks plain and boring if you compare her design to other Disney's villains designs like Frollo, Scar or even Yzma.
I really miss old Disney Villains. They were excentric of course but they were also elegant and they didn't look stupid.
I hope to see a great villain but I'm affraid that she's going to be one of these forgattable characters that Disney uses to make now. They have all the tools to creat stunning characters (at least visually) and they are going worst every year.

Complaining about it won’t change anything either.
