Re: Moana 2
I echo the sentiment that it feels like a retreat and has a DTV quality to it, including the music. I am intrigued, however, by the new villainess. We didn't get a good look at her. Is she made out of birds or something?
Re: Moana 2
Dwayne Johnson talks about his song in the sequel, titled "Can I Get a Chee Hoo?," in this interview. And Disney has released some stills here.

I think they might be bats. Though, it looks like she has a human head, so perhaps there's a body underneath. Or she can transform into bats, similar to how the Queen in Snow White and the Huntsman transformed into crows. The captions reveal her name is Matangi and according to the Disney article I posted above she's voiced by Awhimai Fraser.

Re: Moana 2
I actually really liked the song that Auli'i sang. Like many of us, I've wondered how retooling from a series to a movie will go, but I have faith that this will be good.

I'm the only one that thinks that the animation looks very TV level, like you can tell this was a TV show until last December

I didn't notice about it. The tv shows that I've seen use to have worst animation. The quality is not bad and the movie is not finished yet. They have time to make it look better.Pokenonbinary wrote: ↑Mon Aug 12, 2024 12:13 pm I'm the only one that thinks that the animation looks very TV level, like you can tell this was a TV show until last December
I'm most concerned about the story. I don't see a defined concept. The trailers look like a mix of scenes from different stories mixed together. I'm affraid about the movie having this essence...

THREE YEARS AFTER THAT ADVENTURE
MOANA: I couldn't find anyone.
CHIEF TUI: You'll find him.
SIMEA: Moana!
MOANA: Simea!
SIMEA: Big sis!
MOANA: Little sis!
CHIEF TUI: May our ancestors guide us.
CHIEF TUI: Moana!
MONI: I found this. In the old lore there is an island hidden by a terrible storm. If you can get there, the curse will be lifted. We can get our people back.
MOANA: We'll get it done.
FROM THE CREATORS OF FROZEN
SIMEA: You won't see me again?
MOANA: Wherever I am, my heart is always with you.
SIMEA: Pretend this is me.
MOANA: I'll be back. I promise.
LET'S ROW OUT...
MOANA: Somewhere in these waters is a friend. Fate will bring us together.
… TO A NEW DESTINY
MOANA: Maui?

It was a good trailer. Despite how it was surprisingly jaunty and gung-ho for being a Japanese trailer, as they usually tend to be more serious. The scene with Moana and Simea alone at the beach was adorable, though.

Re: Moana 2
I watched a recap video of the info that was revealed at Annecy last June, and I didn't remember the female villain who appears in the trailer (Matangi) wasn't the main villain, but worked for Nalo, the God of Storms, who I guess is the film's real villain. The voice actor for Nalo hasn't been announced yet, but I guess we got to see a bit of his powers in the trailer when they show that big storm. Matangi doesn't look like a typical minion, though. I wonder if there might be some twist regarding the villain, like for example, that she actually controls the storms or something. Or perhaps there are two main villains so Moana can defeat one and Maui the other?
By the way, I don't know if these two interviews with the directors from Annecy were posted or not. They don't reveal too much about the story, but the directors did talk, for example, about Moana's arc and said that you never stop growing and discovering who you are, and Moana will learn new things about herself in the sequel.

On the cover of the third one, the Big Golden Book, the giant clam looks like an island with a big waterfall when it's closed, doesn't it? I didn't like that character's design before, but it having the ability to pass for an island and trick its prey that way would be cool.Sotiris wrote: ↑Tue Aug 13, 2024 3:26 pm Moana 2 books:

Re: Moana 2
Not too surprising. The tv series was probably greenlit with the possibility of multiple seasons, so there would naturally be opportunities for a follow-up.
Can't help but be bothered thinking about how this will conflict with the LA film timeline. Like, what if the remake does really well and they want to make a sequel to that? Would it just be a remake of Moana 2? What if we get LA Moana 3 before the 3rd animated movie is ready? Are we going to get a LA/Animated cross-over?

Judging by the position of her feet, she seems to be levitating, doesn't it? I looked her name up and apparently it means "wind" or "breeze" in Maori. There's also a Hindu goddess named Matangi, but there doesn't seem to be a Polynesian one with that name. Meanwhile, Nalo means "fly or any two-winged insect" in Hawaiian, but I haven't found anything about him being the god of storms. I wish they had used real characters from Polynesian mythology like they did in the first one with Maui. By the way, if Matangi ends up being the film's main villain and not Nalo, who seemed to be the real antagonist based on the reports from Annecy, she could be the first traditional villainess from WDAS since Gothel.Farerb wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 8:30 am This is supposedly the villain:

There's an upcoming Disney animated short titled "Versa" which will probably be attached to Moana 2.

I keep thinking this will get bad reviews, but like Frozen 2 that got a A- cinemascore (a bad score for kids animated movies, Wish and Ruby Gilman got the same one) I think the movie will still do well
I don't know if a billion but around the same money that the first one did

Also, Sotiris, that could just be another Pixar Spark Short, don’t expect that to be another theatrical short from WDAS, otherwise we would have heard about it at Annecy.
