https://x.com/ScottGustin/status/1822104701539922429NEW: Pixar just announced HOPPERS, a new *original* film coming in 2026. The main character is able to “hop” her mind into the mind of a beaver. Looks fun.
Funny to me that this title share its name with the antagonist of A Bug’s Life.
I think this is the only newly announced original project from Pixar or Disney Animation Studios.

This looks delightfully weird.D82 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2024 9:56 pm The teaser trailer (or part of it at least) has been leaked: https://x.com/MovieUshermx/status/1822116946579726656
Re: Hoppers (2026)
This movie sounds dumb to be honest.
Re: Hoppers (2026)
This looks pretty insane and wild!
Let's wait to see if the rest of the movie remains at the same level, and we could have some great guilty pleasure content on our hands here

Re: Hoppers (2026)
The plot of having to stop a greedy person in a position of power from destroying an animal's natural habitat is really commonplace and generic. There have been plenty of movies based on that premise. And is there really much of a difference between a girl having her consciousness transferred into a a robotic beaver and her magically transforming into one? Regardless how she becomes one, it's pretty clear that during her time as a beaver, she'll get to know and love the animals there and ultimately do everything in her power to stop the mayor from destroying their home. It all seems too simplistic for Pixar.
Interestingly, this marks the third Asian female lead in a Pixar feature, after Turning Red and Elemental.

Re: Hoppers (2026)
Real quick, on the topic of this movie, I was just at the Pixar booth where Daniel Chong and Nicole Paris Grindle were giving away art for the movie that they signed.
I took a brief moment to say to them that Hoppers will be Pixar’s 30th Film and asked them if there would be a special variant of the Pixar logo where it almost fades to black but has Luxo’s light still on and the rest of the black logo with a “Celebrating 30 Years” card before the movie starts.
They said “oh, we don’t know, but we’ll relay that to Pete.”

Well, I don`t have much to say about this. Other than it just sounds a little silly and dumb. But it looks like a typical, current Pixar-project and little to distinguish it. But at least the rodent looked appealing, though.
Re: Hoppers (2026)
Yeah, there's not a big difference, though I guess it's enough to make the film science fiction and not fantasy. It reminds me of Avatar, though there I think it wasn't a robot what they used, but genetically created bodies. It's true the plot sounds a bit generic, but maybe the "weird" elements will make it more unique. I don't know how I feel about this movie yet. I guess I'm a bit curious, but not really excited for it.
Her design looks inspired by anime, doesn't it? Especially the hair.

The director, Daniel Chong, is also of Asian descent. Apparently, he's the creator of We Bare Bears. I haven't seen that animated series, but I guess it might be an indication of what this movie will be like.

Re: Hoppers (2026)
I enjoyed "We Bare Bears," so that's a good character reference for me, I suppose.
The premise sounds a little underdeveloped to me, but I felt similarly the first time they billed "Turning Red" to us, and I really liked the finished product.

Re: Hoppers (2026)
I think the character looks too much like the actress voicing her. It's OK to transfer some traits of the voice actor onto the character design, but this is basically a caricature of her. The animation style makes this look more stop-motion than CG. The screenshot above reminded me the style of Kubo and the Two Strings.
Re: Hoppers (2026)
Personally, it reminded me of Earwig and the Witch, Studio Ghibli's first CGI film, especially the way the hair looked there.

Re: Hoppers (2026)
Why making another East Asian diaspora girl from North America who transform into a cute mammal animal movie just 2 years after Turning Red?
And I'm sure the movie will be once again about Generational trauma and how east asian parents set the standards too high for their kids
Hollywood is having recently a lot of East Asian generational trauma movies, Didi for example just came out, not hating those movies because all have been great but could Pixar use another community and nationality
Could Hoppers simply be about a Bangladeshi girl that lives in Brazil or whatever (just said a random thing, but you all know what I mean)
Anyways also another animated movie where a POC transforms most of the movie into an animal, its a very used trope
In conclusion, the movie might be amazing but they could make something different

Re: Hoppers (2026)
The main character design is great btw, reminds me of Laika movies
I didn't wanted to sound like a hater in my previous post, just that I would have loved another plot since we recently had Turning Red and also seems like Elio will be the only Pixar movie for 2025

Glad they said James Cameron’s Avatar was an inspiration for this movie.
