A couple of (probably) stupid questions from Disney newbie

Post by Mike »

Hi, I'm Mike. As I said, I'm new to this forum, but I've been poking around the place, and all you regulars look pretty helpful, so I was hoping you could help me with a couple of questions about Disney dvds

1) Are the original trailers on the Who Framed Roger Rabbit Vista Series dvd? I've looked for them everywhere and I can't seem to find them. Were they just not included? And if not, why not?

2) Same question except replace Roger Rabbit with Beauty and the Beast.

3) How are the supplemental features on the Fantasia Anthology as compared to buying the two movies seperately? Is there a significant ammount of more bonus material or is it just the same stuff repackaged?

4) Again, same question except with the Toy Story movies and the Ultimate Toy Box.

5) Why weren't Donald and Goofy's first cartoons listed on their Walt Disney Treasures dvds?

6) What's the best place to go looking for the first wave of WDTs, particularly Mickey Mouse in Living Color?

7) Yet again, same question, except the Tarzan Collector's Edition.

Well, I'm sure these are all either stupid questions or common knowledge around here, but like I said I'm new. Anyway that's all I've got for now. Thanks in advance

Mike--

Welcome to the forums! I'll take a stab at a few of your Qs:

1 and 2:
I'll defer to others on these, as I don't have WFRR and am not 100% about BatB.

3) The 3rd disc in The Fantasia Anthology is LOADED. Segment info, fully animated reels of "abandoned comcepts", still-frame galleries, storyboards, concept art and designs, some alternate versions, etc., etc., etc. If you enjoy all that behind-the-scenes stuff I would highly recommend this collection. It's fantastic.

4) Ditto for The Ultimate Toy Box. A MUST for any serious Pixar/Toy Story fan/collector.

5) ummm...no clue

6) The first run of the Treasure Tins are getting harder to find, with MMILC absolutely impossible (except for eBay). You should be able to find most of them online at Amazon, eBay or other e-tailers. MMILC is going for $70+ on eBay so be prepared to shell it out for that one.

7) I may be mistaken here but I thought the Tarzan CE was OOP.
Here's an auction on eBay that ends in an hour w/ a decent price: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... egory=2291
Other than that it may cost you upwards of $45-$50 online.

EDIT: I found this site that may infact have it instock: http://www.dvdboxoffice.com/?descriptio ... d=10039042

**It's Canadian so the $49.99 tag is in Canadian dollars...converts to around $35 US I believe.

Welcome to the forum, Mike!

I'll take a stab at some of these:

2) Same question except replace Roger Rabbit with Beauty and the Beast.

The section called "Release and Reaction" on Disc 2. There are two trailers and 4 TV spots.

3) How are the supplemental features on the Fantasia Anthology as compared to buying the two movies seperately? Is there a significant ammount of more bonus material or is it just the same stuff repackaged?

Discs 1 & 2 are the same separately, but Disc 3 is a nice collection of information on all of the indivdual segments.

4) Again, same question except with the Toy Story movies and the Ultimate Toy Box.

Discs 1 & 2 are completely different. Toy Story has 50 or so "Toy Story Treats" - interstitials that ran on Saturday Mornings in the fall of '95 on ABC, a very good 27-minute documentary. Both films add audio commentaries, which are the normal Pixar fare, entertaining and enlightening. And sound-effects-only tracks in 5.1. Disc Three is AWESOME, with a whole bunch of stuff on both movies. Well worth getting the Toy Box, since the separate Toy Story discs are essentially barebones.

Hopefully, someone else will be able to answer the rest.

Goofy and Donald's debuts are not featured on their sets, because those cartoons already appear on other sets. (Goofy on MILC) and (Donald on SS). I personally think the debuts should be included on their sets, but it seems other people don't want repeat cartoons, on their different sets, which makes sense in some aspects, but I think the debuts should atleast be included as (easter?) eggs, which are things hidden on the DVD's.

I think everything else has pretty much been answered except for Question #1, but someone else will have to tackle that. :) And no, your questions were not dumb, and I was actually wondering about a few myself. Welcome. :ears:

About the question #1...
Am I the only one who has the "Roger Rabbit" DVD here?! I always thought it was a very popular Disney film!

Well, the trailer of "Roger Rabbit" is hidden as an Easter Egg on disc 1!

From DVDreview.com:
Insert the first disc of the set and from the Main Menu select 'Movie Theater.' Now, hit the 'Down' arrow key on your remote control four times and you will highlight the meter on Denny’s dashboard. Press 'enter' now and you will see the movie’s original theatrical trailer.

I have it :D I just didn't remember if it had the trailer or not, and thought if he couldn't find it, then I probably wouldn't be able to.

OK now for my own Question, pertaining to Roger Rabbit DVD:

I heard about this gag that animators wanted to try in the Roger Rabit cartoon where they are at an amusement park. At one point they are on a rollercoaster, and the gag involved the coaster stoping to let another one pass. Each car of the passing coaster had disney characters seated. Supposedly every disney character was seen as the coaster passed. The scene took the animators months to do, but it went by soo quickley it was just a blur, and thus the gag was not understood. To slow it down to the point where the characters were reckognmizable made it drag out too long, and so it was cut...

Well my question is... Was this clip included anywhere on the DVD, because I was not able to find it, but I know the artists desperately wanted the gag to see the light of day.

Anyone know?

There are no stupid questions, but there are many inquisitive idiots....

I don't think you're one of them.

One of these trailers is for the "Special Edition" re-release, leaving only one "original" trailer. However, there where at least three trailers for Beauty and the Beast so where are the other two? Both were run while the movies was on release and included quotes from reviews. The first was similar to the trailer included on the disc, while the second had substantial alterations as more quotes were included.

I think, but am not sure, that their was a shorter teaser trailer too.

*sigh* Another disappointment on the Beauty and the Beast set, compared to the wide range of trailers available on Disney's other multi-disc sets. I hope Disney have re-evaluated their priorities for this year's Lion King release.

There was also a second trailer for the IMAX release that they didn't include on the DVD. But if you look for it, it is still avaliable on the Internet.

Wow, thanks guys. That was quicker than I thought. Thanks for the link Indianajp. Lost the auction, but oh well. I'm sure it'll pop up again sometime. And do you happen to know why the trailer for Roger Rabbit was so buried? I mean, granted it's not really the best representation of the movie, but trailers rarely are. Well, thanks again everyone. And thanks for not laughing at the new guy. :)

And a nice curiosity: the theatrical trailer of "Roger Rabbit" has the uncut scene of Baby Herman. You know, in the current version of the film, they edited the infamous "goose scene" (they 'erased' Baby's Herman finger).

i'm sure this was posted on here earlier, but i'm too lazy to search for the old thread. i've been holding off on buying the who framed roger rabbit disc because is it in fullscreen. the box says, however, that the second disc is widescreen. i'm sure the feature is not on BOTH discs right? is there a version available (in UK or elswhere) that has the widescreen version? or were there ever plans to release a widescreen version?

Yeah, the feature is on both discs indeed. Fullscreen version on the first disc, Widescreen 16x9 on the second disc.
