Recently I heard about 'Nostalgia' being a new emotion and the character voiced by June Squibb. Curious if she will turn out to have a larger role and be similar to Bing Bong (reminiscing about Riley's childhood).

I’m wondering is Nostalgia is not supposed to be a new emotion but a separate entity in Riley’s mind, either in charge of an area that Joy and the others visit or wandering around like Bing Bong was.

I liked that the movie clarified Anxiety's role and job at Headquarters, saying that Fear is an emotion used in situations Riley can easily face, whereas Anxiety is used in future situations she needs to take account of, because many people thought that Anxiety should not have been a separate emotion but rather another facet of Fear's role.

Even though this news is about Inside Out 2, I think it’s better suited in this thread, since the sequel will feature a hand-drawn character called Bloofy.

Although Pixar has periodically dabbled in 2D (most recently with its first original series, “Win or Lose”), this marks the first time that 2D characters have appeared in a CG feature. Inside Riley’s vault of secrets, Joy and the other emotions encounter Bloofy and Pouchy from the pre-school show “Bloofy’s House.” Bloofy is a “Blue’s Clues”-like dog and Pouchy is the pouch he wears with a personality all of his own and contains items (such as dynamite) to help the emotions get out of tough situations.

Fortunately, Pixar was able to utilize its “Win or Lose” 2D pipeline to make modest-looking hand-drawn characters with simple poses. “We thought it would be awesome to do a 2D character and we have a lot of really great 2D animators,” Mann said. “So we learned a lot from the shows that have actually been doing that. Coming up with a look of how does that character fit into the 3D world was really fun.”

I still don't think Anxiety/Fear are different enough to merit different entities in the film, and I'm pretty sure Nostalgia is just going to be this movie's channel into forced metacommentary on the Walt Disney company.

yeah I kinda get it, but as Nostalgia is more of a "longing of the past" emotion, the same affect could have been achieved through Sadness coming in contact with Rileys childhood memories, like in the first Film. But just my opinion

I think it will barely, BARELY, open to $100M.

So, I read the Little Golden Book for the film and it seems kind of plain and average. Nothing really interesting or clever about it, but nothing really egregious either. It also seems to lack the emotional heft of the original. It looks like this will be another serviceable but bland Pixar sequel like Finding Dory and Incredibles 2.

You wouldn't mind spoiling the story for me, would you, Sotiris (under spoiler tags)? I won't see the movie until it shows up on Disney+ a few months from now, and I'm curious. Inside Out is one of the few PIXAR films I actually did think was a masterpiece. I didn't know its release was so soon, so I watched a few trailers. The bits about the group becoming suppressed emotions and the sar-chasm both made me giggle. Interesting that it seems to have the whole group involved this time rather than just Joy and Sadness.
