Where should the next Disney Princess be from?

Post by reee9948 »

From the catalogue of Disney's princess, most of them are based off of European tales, particularly France and Germany thanks to the Grimm's Brother. There is also a lot of princess from non European places like Jasmine and Mulan, but I kind of wish they explore more obscure places like the Central asians countries like Kazakhstan or maybe Armenia or Persia with Zoroastrian influence. What do you guys think? Which place do you think our next Disney princess should be from?

Snow White - Germany
Cinderella - France
Sleeping Beauty- France/Germany (I think this movie is based on the Grimm's brother version)
Little Mermaid- Italy/ Caribbean (Not sure exactly)
Beauty and the Beast- France
Aladdin- Iraq
Mulan- China
Pocahontas- Virginia, America
Kida- Atlantis
Tiana- New Orleans
Elsa and Anna- Norway
Moana- Polynesia
Rapunzel- Germany

Iโ€™d love to see an Italian principessa, perhaps from the House of Savoia.
Or a real Spanish princesa from either Castilla or Aragรณn.

If recent movies are anything to go by, those times of Disney movies being set in a specific country/region/period are long gone. But dreaming is fun! As someone from the Balkans, I'd like to see a South Slavic princess (or a prince).

Also:
- an actual Central/South American princess (Mirabel doesn't count), preferably from a pre-Columbian era
- a princess from African folklore

I too like the idea of a Central Asia princess (Uzbekistan or Kazakhstan), as you suggested.

YES I also would love a Spanish Disney Princess! Almost got one with Angelina I think. Disney should REALLY try to work this out please
Italian DP would also be great

I also would love Princesses based on these places! There is so much distinctive cultural richness especially in Africa that you can explore! :D

I would also add Ireland to the list, I think they are known for placing Fairytales with gnomes and trolls, right? Correct me im unsure...
But I would really loveeeee to see Disneys spin on Spain

EDIT: I would LOVEEEE if Disney would set a fairytale in India! I was obsessed with this Idea since I heard of Disneys Nightingale and Indian culture in general is soo unique and would be visually stunning especially in Handdrawn Animation! Pleaseee Disney open the vault and finish Nightingale please thank u xoxo!

I'm surprised they haven't done an Indian princess yet. India is the most populated country in the world and a lot of them would love to see an Indian princess and in theater. Not to mention there are many stories from Hindiusm or Buddhism they can take inspiration from, it would be really cool to see their spin on it. At the same time though, since these stories are based on religion, it has a potenital to offend a lot of people so I guess Disney doesn't want to risk getting a big backlash from the Indians.

I would loveee to see an Indian Disney Princess! Wasnt Disney actually gonna make an adaptation of Ramayana or was it just Dreamworks? I guess the only Indian Disney Protagonist for now is the Royal Detective :eye:

They will never move forward if they keep this path. Disney needs to realize that they cant please everyone on this planet, so taking risks is the best they can do! Alot of people could be pissed but more people would celebrate it with a huge heart! The more personal the story is= the more impactful and better!

Iโ€™d love to see a Polish princess named Jadwiga.

Or a Hungarian princess or Portuguese or Lithuanian.

How about a Mexican princess or Argentinian or Peruvian, post-Columbian era.

What about an Ancient Egypt princess, a pharaoh? Unlike most countries at that time, women in Egypt were allowed to rule and not to mention Egypt is a really cool setting and a popular one. Or maybe ancient Greece or Rome or any of the old civilization set in the BC era.

I wouldnโ€™t mind a movie set in India especially if the songs would be done as homage to Bollywood. If internet has taught us anything is that there will always be someone complaining no matter what they do, but they can mitigate the potential pushback if they approach the story with proper sensitivity, understanding and diligence (i.e. have it be written or directed by someone of Indian background and have screenwriters/animators visit India in preparations for the movie).

I'd love to see Disney make a film about Sissi. Take inspiration from the classic Romy Schneider films and make an adaptation of the story. I'd love for it to be hand drawn.

I think in the eyes of Disney they've already done an "Indian princess" with Jasmine.

I'm personally kind of princessed out at the moment. Like, I appreciate what we've got, but I'm more up for movies like Encanto or Zootopia which look beyond the fairy-tale realm.

That said, I have definitely thought to myself that I would make an exception if they were to induct a proper Latina princess into the line. So, that is my condition.

I want to praise you for an excellent thread, OP. Personally, I would`ve loved to see either an Indian, Irish or Egyptian Princess.

This comes from The DisInsider, so take it with a grain of salt.

He is most likely confusing it with this:
https://deadline.com/2022/12/disney-ind ... 235186373/

Which is not supposed to be an animated film.
