really unfortunate, as this could be literally mistaken for a screenshot from the movie while OuaS Ariel kinda looked like Return to the Sea.

He would not have had the same amount of time working on the short as he would have in his personal time.

Musker’s team had another curious exchange with the legendary Katzenberg during work on Mermaid: “Die Hard had been a box-office hit. So he came into the office saying, ‘We need The Little Mermaid to be more Die Hard. That’s how we got the second action sequence, with an Ursula who is as big as the building in Nakatomi Plaza.”

Really? You didn`t know? I don`t want to sound condescending, but it`s been well-known for many years. The directors confirmed this for the Audio Commentary for the movie.

I think audio commentaries are usually the best supplement when included on DVD and Blu-ray, but I almost never listen to them because they take as long as the movie itself!

Who has that time in this day and age?

I listen to the audio commentaries on the Walt era films and other classic films from the ‘30- ‘80s, particularly musicals. Most post ‘90s films I’m not interested in the commentaries with very few exceptions.

I couldn’t have said it better, Duster!
It’s as simple as that. With rare exceptions such as Titanic (1997) or Beauty and the Beast (1991) or Fantasia 2000 (2000) or West Side Story (2021), most post ‘90s films don’t interest me enough to invest my time listening to a commentary. I will watch most “Making of” features, though.

Not to be facetious, but would he not be the one who made that alleged cover that was stated to be “Rushed” to get done, though that was also a theatrical poster, right?

The articles that I read about it said that the cover was made by a freelance but they doesn't specify that it was Ron. I saw that Ron illustrated some Disney books too but the art that he made doesn't look like the vhs cover. It's a different style...

I have that book with his illustrations. It was released in 2006, with the Platinum DVD. The art is so beautiful.

I had the same book but I had it since the 90s. I have to take a look to see the publication date

I had the '90s Disney Illustrated Classics version of the book as well. The 2006 "Special Edition" was a larger format re-release of the book. It had one or two new illustrations, I believe at least one was of Ariel on the rock after she rescued and sang to Eric. I think the other was the animals fighting Vanessa, but I may be wrong about that pic ever happening. Anyway, the original illustrations were freaking beautiful, on-model, and perfect.

I agree with you! One of the best TLM books. I loved it when I was a child because Ariel had her scales. It was the only book where I saw it.
Maybe that's why I love the original vhs cover so much. I love when Ariel has her scales.
