New Songs For Platinum

Post by Prince Phillip »

Well, here are the movies and their songs, as it has gone so far:

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs - the abandoned/deleted song about Soup or whatever was included.

Beauty and the Beast - The abandoned/deleted song Human Again was added after it's broadway success.

The Lion King - The made for Broad way song Mourning Report was worked into the movie.

What already existing songs or yet to be existing songs, do you think can/will be included on future Platinum discs. (*Note - Just as in Snow White, they might not neccesarily be included in film)

Aladdin - I think "Count on me" could be animated and added to the film, and "Proud of your Boy" could be roughly done, like the ones for Snow White and put in "abandoned concepts", although really, I think all the 'Original Score" songs deserve this. (In fact it it were up to me, I would finish the whole original film and include it as another version of the film, but that is just me...)

The only deleted song I know of for The Little Mermaid is "Silence is Golden, but that would replace "Poor Unfortunate Souls which is much better, although the original and ellongated version of "Fathoms Below" would be nice, and I like the original "Part of your World: Reprise", but we'd miss out on the big splash when she says "World!" so that wouldn't work, but "Fathoms" would...

Any other ideas?

I'm sure that there is tons of deleted stuff we don't know about :) .

Thanks

Well now that I think about it, "Why Me" is most likely the song that will be added to Aladdin since there is an unreleased master to it already, but I think it was cut either do to uninterest of kids or because they didn't know where to place it.

Any way this song is sung by Jafar, probably when he aquire the lamp, and it is about his tough life and such, and how he now has the power, blah blah blah. I suppose the song is ok, but there are better ones the could use. However, from everything I've been hearing about "Mourning Report" it seems that they did not pick the nicest song, simply the shortest and cheapest to do. I have a feeling that there is probably some kind of animation or whatever alread existing for "Why Me". It is a similat situation to "Human Again" and is therefore the most likely to be the one added. Well, we'll see.

As for Mermaid, it is quite possable that it will be the elongated "Fathoms" that is added. I did think it had a chance since the whole sequence would probably have to be reanimated, but if they did it with TLK, I don't see why they wouldn't with Little Mermaid. But don't worry all you die hard fans out there, if they do it the way it was meant to be done, it should be good, and if not, you'll always be able to chose the "Original Theatrical Release" feature :) .

Well that is all I can think of at the moment.

 Oh I almost forgot. The Jungle Book may have had some deleted songs. If not there was atleast a whole second album made up. After Walt died and there was a drought of ideas, Disney planned to soak the success of the JB for all it was worth and make a sequel. They released an LP for the sequel to test the waters, but when it made no money they scrapped the idea. The Jungle Book 2, that we know today does not have those songs, so it is possable that they, or atleast mention of them, will appear somewhere on the DVD.
But then again you never know, I personally would have liked to heard more aboput the 2 failed attempts by disney to make BATB, but alas there was no info on them.

I haven't seen the Fatasia Anthology so I don't know what bonuses were or were not included so I can't give an opinion on that. And I think my computer is about to freeze up so I want to get this posted before that happens so...

Wasn't the album for the sequel called "More Jungle Book"? The songs were still written by the Sherman Brothers, right?

And is there anyone else out there who wishes Disney would just leave the classics alone? I mean, if you want to include deleted scenes and songs as an extra on the DVD, fine: just don't alter the movies as they were originally released.

Yeah, that's right...

Personally, I don't have a problem with the "Special Editions", but I think the new segment should add to the film. I guess I will have to wait to see "Mourning Report" till I get the DVD, well actually I don't have to but I choose to. From what I hear on this forum it wasn't well recieved, that is a shame :x . But I did like "Human Again" I thought the music animation et all, were well done. I have a Big screen TV and the difference in animation was very subtle if there was one. Mainly I think it was just brighter, but I also hear this is the case with SB, concerning color changes halfway through the film, though I will have to see this for myself. I guess it gets darker second half, but that is mainly do to the change in mood I would think.

Don't worry, I don't think you have to worry about the classics recieving this treatment, after all, Snow White, didn't get it, the deleted songs were on a seperate disc. But even if they are not, simply choose "OTR" feature, unless subconsciously the new scenes intrique you, but when they are not what you hoped, they become negative and unneccessary.

This is the case with some of the sequels with me, while I believe that NOT ALL the classics should recieve a sequel, especially if they end "Happily Ever After", some can use a sequel, but they should be all well done, and should be a story on their own. While remaining true to the original, they should not try to be the original, well anyway this is a touchy subject so I will get off it.... Besides Disney really hasn't been exacting the discipline to really pull these off in a way that satifies everyone.

Any way like I said before I look forward to the SE's of A and BATB. By the way come January, Aladdin will be my first I-MAX movie!!!

Well, it now seems there are a ton of Cinderella songs, that never made it into the movie that could possibly be used...

An impressive number of songs were written but not used in the final version of Cinderella, including Cinderella, I'm In The middle of a Muddle, I Lost My Heart at the Ball, The Mouse Song, Sing a Little, Dream a Little, Dancing on a Cloud, The Dress My Mother Wore, and The Face That I See In The Night.

No the colours on the PAL editions of Sleeping Beauty flicker rapidly darker and brighter throughout the film (worse in some parts than in others). This makes the picture appear to "shimmer". This may be fixed for the R1 release?

Note: At some points this is obviously intentional - such as in area lit by fire. However, as I say it does it to a greater/lesser extent throughout the whole movie.

I think the new musical sequence should be in the area where Aladdin asks the Genie what he would wish for. That would be good if Robin Williams went back to Disney and recorded some more lines for his part and that Robin Williams would now sing 3 songs in Aladdin(Friend Like Me, Prince Ali, and the new musical sequence).

Yeah, but the thing is, that they are using disney songs, that were meant for the movie, but were abondoned. Aladdin has so many songs, that were never used. They will most likely use one of those, and Alan Menken will probably over see the whole production of the new number like he did with "Human Again". I can put my trust in him, and know he will do the musical number justice... I do not think it will be like "Mourning Report".
Infact, this whole time I thought they pushed Aladdin back, because they were banking on the Lion King's bigger sales, which they probably were, I think that's a no brainer  , but maybe, it was also because they needed more time to do tha Aladdin number justice. Ooooooooooooooooh I really really hope this is the case.

Yeah but none of the abondened songs from Aladdin do not match with the movie plot since many of them have to do with Aladdin's mother, Aladdin's brothers, and other characters that were not in the movie. So it would be good if they can create new songs than using deleted songs or the ones from Broadway. Besides the only song that would work with the movie is "Humilate the Boy" and it work alright with the movie if they change some of the lyrics.

They could do :
"Humiliate the Boy", which would replace "Prince Ali"(reprise)
"Why Me?" another Jafar song (that already has an Unreleased Master *hint, hint*)
"Arabian Nights"(reprise) another Unreleased Master, but this is included in King of Theives
"Count on Me" though some parts are similair to "A whole New World"...

Anyway, my guess is that it will be "Why Me" since, like "Human Again" it was meant to be in the film, but cut at the last moment. Another thing that it has going for it, is that there is an unreleased master for it, not even "Human Again" had that.

*Note - Unreleased Master means the song was recorded and everything, with Actor's voice dialogue score, ect... so it would not need to be rewritten or composed or anything, all the Disney Co. would need to do is animate it, though this would not be my first choice. I think they should animate some or the songs form the "Original Score" like "Babkak, Omar, Aladdin, Kassim" and "Proud of Your Boy" and put them in abandoned concepts. "B, O, A, K" is such a fun song, while "Proud of Your Boy", is a sad heart felt song, very nice. And another one of my faves is "Count on Me". "High Flying Adventure" seems like it would have been an awesome sequence, but I guess we'll never know...

I would say that if there is no existing animation from this sequence (High Flying Adventure) there will be nothing of it on the DVD, since I don't think they would know where to begin to shetch out this sequence...

Has anyone ever seen the lyrics, for any of these abondoned songs, or better yet, heard the music? Maybe demos of the songs exist? If anyone has any additional info on the abandoned songs, please let me know. :)

I'm afraid, that if they are demos, chances are, it won't be her singing :( ... but it will be nice to hear the songs anyway, and you can try to picture her singing :) ...

If they had to add something to Lion King, it should've been "ShadowLand", although I don't think it could top Heather Headley's Broadway version (her voice is so powerful!)!
