I enjoyed the film for what it was, but it didn’t come close to what I believe theologically regarding the afterlife and the 4 Last Things: Death, Judgement, Heaven and Hell.

Oh, so you mean we don't live before we are born, Divinity, but God plans who we will be? Aside from the choices that we make that make us go to Heaven or Hell?

I get you, carolinakid.

I saw that, and I can’t help but think Joe Gardner is a very strange choice for a face character! What’s he gonna do, in between jazz sets expound on his existential crises?

Yeah. Interesting choice. I'm intrigued to see what happens there. I didn't particularly care for Soul, but it's always interesting to me when Disney tries to reintegrate a property into the parks in any degree after its heyday has passed. I hope it spells well for the other Disney+ Pixar releases.

The rerelease of Soul absolutely tanked at the box office.
Pixar suffers a soul crushing defeat. Less than 600k over the 4 day weekend....

I had a chance to watch it in theaters 4 month after its release on Disney+ but I wasn't that interested since I already watched it (same happened with Raya and Turning Red. I only went to see Luca a day before its Disney+ release), and I can imagine that most people in America feel the same way now. Truthfully I own the 4K disc and I regret buying it because I never watch the movie.

Really, with movie tickets at 14-15 dollars a pop ..... what was Disney thinking?
We’re going to see The Wizard of Oz in 2 weeks, but Soul is no way close to a classic.

Not terribly surprising. I completely forgot it was playing this weekend. The re-release got NO promotion.

We'll see if Turning Red and Luca can't get a little more hype and more returns.

Also, considering that Soul is about to premiere this coming Sunday on the wonderful world of Disney on ABC and CTV 2/whatever other channels outside the US, what are they thinking here?

I feel like there was a moment a while earlier where there was more demand for a wide theatrical release for Soul. That moment I feel has passed.

But this may just be coming from me, I found Soul kind of mid tbh. It felt like an unwelcome retread to Pixar's old formula, and I genuinely prefer their more recent "personal" films like Luca, Turning Red and Elemental.

I wondered if these Pixar theatrical releases weren’t an olive branch to the employees, who have apparently been quite peeved about the direct-to-Disney+ scheme. Better late than never, y’know? But OTOH, probably not laying off a bunch of them would have been a better olive branch. So I dunno.

I feel similar. I don't mind the "Pixar formula" so much, but Soul just feels like it was engineered specifically to earn favor with critics and The Academy. It supposes that the premise of Pixar putting out a film with a more cerebral premise and aesthetic is what separated Pixar from other animation studios, but to me Pixar's not-so-secret weapon has always been that it understood the nuances of storytelling. You don't really see that in Soul ,but you do see that in their earlier classics, and you see it with their more recent films (at least the ones that work) whether or not critics choose to recognize them.

According to WDW Pro, Soul is bombing so badly that theaters are begging Disney to pull it off screens...

Yeah, I'll just tell you right now they lyin'. Just like them lies that they made up about the Rey SW movie, which even LFL called them out for, along with calling out World of Reel's report about the Rey movie being delayed indefinitely when io9 and Jeff Sneider both said, "no, that's bull."

Yeah, I had seen Soul listed on BoxOfficeMojo as I was paying attention to Wish last month and was confused at first. That was when I first heard about the re-releases. Personally, I thought Soul was about as formulaic as I expected at the time. The main character is the only thing in the movie that's interesting. Tina Fey's character was very annoying.

I feel bad for Pixar but this is what they deserve for making such a flop movie

Inside Out was so much better. Inside Out 2 will save Pixar.
