PatchofBlue wrote: โ†‘Sat Dec 23, 2023 11:42 am I've been possessed with exactly why it is that Enchanted works better than Wish, and I think your observations start to scratch at why.
Thanks PatchofBlue! I really love Enchanted and the movie just feels so iconic and special to me, its literally one of my top 5 Disney movies ever! Kevin Lima and everyone from Alan Menken to the actors and Animators did a phenomenal job with this one!
Disney Duster wrote: โ†‘Thu Dec 28, 2023 4:55 pm Interesting ideas, Disneynerd, and maybe they would have made the film better. Though, I must say, I prefer the film the way it turned out to the story ideas as alternates you made for this film. Still, I know you are a good idea guy. That pitch video is also f-ing hilarious!
Thank you so much D Duster! Yeah i also must say the idea was not THAT spectacular but meh i tried a bit. Glad you also enjoyed the Video, it makes me cackle all the time lol
Patricier21 wrote: โ†‘Sun Dec 24, 2023 3:13 am First of all, Asha Does indeed change. She goes from being insecure and stuck in the Societal role that sheโ€™s given, Hoping to change that by becoming magnificoes apprentice and therefore attempting to find change overall not only for her but for the kingdom in order to make a difference like she implies at the beginning. What she doesnโ€™t expect though is to truly grow into a confident and competent person, not necessarily A leader, but her own/better self overall.
Discovering "the truth" about Magnifico didnt change her as a person, she didnt mature or grow in any way, as she always intended "the best" for her kingdom and community throughout the whole plot. Also the only vulnerable and insecure scene of Asha was the one where she was nervous because of her interview. But thats natural. Thats no personal nervousness involved. Im also nervous before meeting someone specific or when i also had my internship Interviews, but I forget how afraid and nervous I was once its over. Ok another scene would be the table argument scene with her family, but again this was no personal argument that challenged Asha or anyone on the table personally, it was just miscommunication that escalated the scene, no family conflict or something, whereas in Mulan the family table scene WAS personal as she expresses the unfairness that she doesnt want her father to DIE and go to war, while he attacks her personally by saying she should know her place instead of questioning his, as she expressed earlier in "Reflection" how she doesnt know whats her place in life and how she can make her family proud, which gave her many reasons to get frustrated and leaving the table.

And all those Disney characters are personally struggeling as they are at some point where their dream seems unreachable and they are not sure if they should just give up or keep on going, i felt that the most with Cinderella where her dress gets torn apart. I think thats the scene that makes me feel the most for a character EVER. Most Disney characters have those moments aswell like Ariel as Triton destroys her grotto and Belle being the prisoner to Beast, Moana hitting rock bottom (not the Rock) as Maui leaves and telld her she wasnt destined for this and more. All of them cried or were frustrated because their biggest dreams started crumbeling. But Asha cries because... thats what Disney characters before her did. There Was no personal reason for her to cry or be upset other than "i dont know how to express it but its unfair that Magnifico doesnt grant everyones Wish this feels unfair enough for me to start fighting against him because he does something that im 100% against for so he must be wrong๐Ÿ˜ข" if they would have gave her just ONE tiny personal reason to fight against what he stands for, like her maybe being 18 and finding out she had a dream that was taken by Magnifico and he refusing to give it to her or atleast tell her what the wish was about (maybe like finding her purpose in life or becoming the kings apprentice and this would go full circle by the end where she becomes all that on her own as she becomes the FGM) could Start making her desperate or having an identity crises to find out whats missing in her life that could have been her dream or spark. That would have made me more invested in Asha and would even make me root for her. Such dreams are more important to who you are than just your biggest dream being to inspire others. I know, in life we should look out for each other, but living JUST to please anyone else... seems robotic to me. I also have personal, big dreams, like becoming an animator that seems possible enough and another dream that is ridiculous as its something almost every human commonly has without even trying. And I cry everyday in hope tomorrow everything changes but it never does for YEARS. And it makes me slowly give up on that but I still believe and pray for it everyday. While the drawing/ animator dream is mostly my hobby and not something I struggle with physically or personally, the other thing is whats REALLY missing in my life and something i always felt insecure about, but im getting off topic and wanted my cringe pick me moment๐Ÿฅฐ, but thats something for the "the universe stomped on me" thread. What I want to say with this is that specific things we want or work for is what drives us, not a concept or something. Its like saying "I wish to be popular" "wish to inspire others" instead of asking yourself WHY. You may wish for this in order to be appreciated, then Saba or whatever hes called could have wished for appreciation from his family or community instead, as its something that could be missing in his life. Again, our biggest dream seems to be something missing in our lives in hope it will complete us, shown through many Disney characters and their goals, but in Wish there is nothing missing in any characters life that could complete them. Asha has no unfairness in her life, she doesnt need to prove herself to others because noone is looking down at her. She has her friend group who gets her. Her family. There is nothing missing in her life, aside from her father, but it didnt serve the story in any way. Ashas Mission felt more like a sidequest...
Its as if they live in a perfect paradise but they still arent satisfied and search for something problematic to fix it to feel heroic. The movie feels as if you already have a perfectly finished wobbly tower and destroy it purposely to build it up again, same with Frozen 2.

And even the old slightly passive princesses like Aurora or SW are essential to the plot as the plot literally started and revolves around them, like Snow White being the fairest of them all and Aurora with her curse. Even one of my fav characters ever, Rapunzel, i gotta admit doesnt really change or grow as a person, same with Asha. But she still had her moments like overcoming her fears and comfort zone as she left the tower, hoping to reach her dream lanterns, and again, most Importantly, Rapunzel was essential to the plot, as she was the one with the magical long hair. Those characters couldnt be replaced, but Asha could. They could have switched Asha with one of her friends And the story wouldnt change at all. But thats just my take.

Patricier21 wrote: โ†‘Sun Dec 24, 2023 3:13 am A lot of people are seriously overthinking magnifico. The whole thing with him is that he supposed to grant wishes and not have people suffer or have to go through the kinds of hard work that he had to go through, because he has the power to do so.ย
Magnifico had the potential to be a great, understandable villain, not a brainless villain who wants Power for no reason, as his points were truly valid. But then they had to switch him to the brainless villain imitating past villain Icons like Ursula Maleficent and more. I cant justify Maleficent as she was evil for no reason in the original SB, but Ursula, Hades, Jafar, Scar, Facilier (too lazy to google if i wrote it right, the evil one from Princess and the frog) all of them were powerhungry to fulfill their lives and to feel worthy and complete and whatever. They had their personal reasons for their cruel bahaviours like climbing to the top for their ego or to prove their worth for example. Magnifico didnt. Why did the already powerful sorcerer King need more magic than he already has? Hes already on top! If they maybe expressed how overlooked and unimportant he felt before discovering his magic to grant the wishes of others, now feeling appreciated by his people and then being conquered by the magic Star who is also be able to grant everyones wishes, would show how overshadowed he must feel and Star therefore becoming a threat to Magnificos throne and ego as he mostly became King through his magic or something and therefore he can loose his value and worth in his kingdom. But in the movie hes just interested in Star to observe his magic to get more powerful for no reason because hes evil.

Patricier21 wrote: โ†‘Sun Dec 24, 2023 3:13 am It wouldโ€™ve been a very big mistake if they had made him a love interest instead of an actual star (Stardust anyone? Youโ€™re accusing wish of not actually being its own thing, and get it they went this way, it wouldโ€™ve been even more unoriginal, and not really something that fits kind of thing that Disney would do
How on earth would this not fit in the Disney brand or legacy in any way? Enlighten me please. Because Disney was strongly known for Romance or pairing the ordinary human character with the magical one (Maui with Moana, Anna Elsa, Sisu with Raya, Rapunzel with Flynn, Lilo with Stitch... Asha and the Starboy would have fitted here with no problems. Also romance could have still worked between them because the idea of turning Starboy into her grandpa was done at the end before switching him with the ultimate Star
Patricier21 wrote: โ†‘Sun Dec 24, 2023 3:13 am I mean how many other characters directly reminds you of Dahlia? Even Simon to me stands out.
I can gladly not think of any.๐Ÿ˜‡
Apart from Simon being sleepy and Dhalia having a thing for Magnifico, im interested to hear how those 2 in any way stand out.

Also I think it would be good to compare 2 songs with similar themes, like "this Wish" and "When you believe" from Prince of Egypt. The song always makes me emotional (not only because of the breathtaking voice performances of 2 iconic vocalists but also), because of theme of giving hope and having to hold on and that there isnt really any confirmation that our dreams or prayers come true, but still our hope is hard to kill. A powerful song and message that insists you to believe no matter how hard and frustrating it seems.

In Wish however... the lyrics are more like "i dont know whats really frustrating me and whats missing in my life but I still wish for something better yeah yeah."๐ŸŽถ Sorry but I dont really feel moved by a song that just imitates wannabe struggle and is talking in circles without addressing the problem or her want. There is no drive and no real storytelling there. Leave this song out and the plot doesnt get affected (or just sing the song and the whole movie is summed up lol). We all wish for something more in Life but what this "more" is is what drives the song and plot, but here exists no specific "more". "When you believe" has also not that specific lyrics, but it clearly gets its message across that you have to keep on believing and trust in something blindly, as this is what the Movie and the message of Religion or everyones believe in general indicates, so the song clearly sums up the main message and idea of the movie. Powerful. I really love this song and Listen to it now and then. Again, My opinion.

Patricier21 wrote: โ†‘Sun Dec 24, 2023 3:13 am Enchanted, while itโ€™s still works very well enough on its own, does feel way more in your face and more like a parody, And Easter egg fest more
Yeah. Thats the point. While Andalasia is an obvious satirical take on Disney tropes, Wish gave the impression that it would stand on its own with its unique lore of wishes and the Kingdom of Rosas, only to end up being a big Disney clichee with no unique outstanding plot, like I said in my wannabe review.

Wasnt officially indicated, i know, but im pretty sure Disney tried to connect their films and create a disneyverse with this one in veins of the overdone popular multiverse things lately with Spiderverse, Marvel and more recently. Im pretty sure if Wish would have been a Smash hit, spinoff series like how Valentino Sets on a journey to create Zootopia and Asha setting on her mission to prepare to grant Cinderellas or Pinocchios Wish would have been made instantly. Some references were fun, but others were smashed too much in ones face. I know Wish was a celebration movie and it tried to come full circle with the throwbacks, and it was never stated that she was THE fairygodmother from other movies and how everything is connected, but with Disney these days, i wont be surprised if they would jump on the connected universe thing. So glad it flopped so they can reflect on what should really be their priority: An organic STORY. Thats why the Renaissance will always be beloved: Great Stories with Great Lessons that get elevated with pretty Animation. I can rewatch those movies billion times and i never get bored. Peak Disney Cinema.

As I said, it doesnt really work because Wish feels lost between being its own thing with its own unique lore with the Kingdom of Rosas that stands out in the veins of Arendelle, Agrabah and more, and being a disney property stuffed movie build on nostalgia that has no personal message. There is literally no aspect that makes me think "Yeah this concept is so unique" like every other Disney movie. Ice Powers= Frozen, magical hair= tangled. Genie and his Magic Lamp= Aladdin, turning into Frogs= P&tF. All those unique things drove and shaped the story. The concept of the actual wishing Star coming down to earth was a great idea for the 100th anniversary movie, but Star Literally didnt impact the story in any way (like every other character in Wish). They could have literally replaced Star with a literal Rock that has magic in it or a Magic Wand falling from the sky and the story wouldnt change at all. The only thing Star did to the plot was making the animals talk, (and making Asha the first fairy godmother) but they also didnt do anything to the plot with their talking. Also I think they tried to explain with this why the Disney Animals like Bambi and more could talk.... ehm no thank you i dont need a magical reason on why they could talk i blindly believe that Bambi and all other animals were able to talk. Also they talked in their animal language translated for us. Wait does this mean that Tarzans and Mowglis animal friends could speak fluently english and they were just messing with the settlers? The are so talented and bilingual๐Ÿฅฐ. Also why didnt Bambis mother try to talk to the Hunter??? :? ugh she could have prevented so much stress with this๐Ÿ˜’ same with Tod and Copper, they could have just told their owners that they are best friends and that the Hunter should stop annoying Tod cause he doesnt like it smh. :| :headshake:

Dont overcomplicate things Disney, not everything needs an explanantion. If I should believe that there is a magical kingdom of Rosas with a magical King who can grant wishes out of nowhere and magic Stars fall from the sky, I think I can believe that anthropomorphic animals exist on their own or that Sundrops with healing powers fall from the sky. Thats the magic of Disney, thats the magic in Cinderella for example. Cinderella doesnt get told that in her universe Fairies exist. She doesnt get promised that a fairy godmother will get her some reward for her kindness, shes kind because she believes in goodness. And this blind trust in goodness and her optimistic selfless attitude is what really makes her earn the magical reward. No fairygodmother lore needed.
Thats the thing with (disney) magic. You just have to believe in it bindly and hope for the impossible to be possible and thats beautiful, theres no need to find origins of where magic comes from, but if they continue to try to explain the origins of every Disney magic aspects, they are not only destroying the magic and wonders of movies, it will also then has to be renamed into Disney Alchemy...
Again, I know it wasnt confirmed that the movies are connected, as easter eggs and references were ALWAYS common in Disney movies, but these ones were thrown in your face every 2 minutes, so im not sure about that.

Patricier21 wrote: โ†‘Sun Dec 24, 2023 3:13 amย  if it can work with itโ€™s homages And references, then why canโ€™t wish work here, regardless of everything else that enchanted has done with it?
There is a difference in referencing and making fun of tropes like in Enchanted and following tropes because they were beloved and need to reference them for the legacy. Enchanteds Disney tropes were essential to the story or made its message clearer that those typical disney tropes seen as "unrealistic" "predictable" and "ridiculous" that drastically clash with the real world still CAN occure to the real World, that no matter how bizzare Disney magic seems, it can still happen in the real coldhearted world when you believe in it.

However Wish constantly throws in reference after reference that are not demanded by the so called plot. It feels forced. And saying that its the 100 year anniversary movie doesnt excuse this. The 100 year full circle legacy thing already worked and was fulfilled with their concept of the wishing star. But Star wasnt involved personally or had something to do. Again. The finished movie would have worked so much better if they would have made Mickey and his friends the protagonists, those characters never really needed to grow in any way so it wouldnt be that problematic if there is no character arc or lesson plus they are the cartoon characters that started it all. Mickey alongside Disney references feels also more organic as hes the OG Disney character who is in almost every Disney property, including its own easter egg with the Hidden mickey.
Patricier21 wrote: โ†‘Sun Dec 24, 2023 3:13 am
The big thing is that they donโ€™t want to be too typical or predictable, because other movies have done These kinds of things, only to not work out. If it werenโ€™t for this kind of thinking, we will not have monsters university the way that it is, which many of you have pointed out is quite the stand out and underrated and greet because they deliberately avoided it being typical and predictable
1. It WAS predictable.
2. That was 20 years ago. AND Pixar. Pixar literally flipped concepts entirely and embraced irony,ย  with Rats being chefcooks, Monsters being the ones afraid of children, Robots who fall in love and more, the 2000s were the biggest Experimental era for Disney and pixar in general. Lilo and Stitch is also something unique and cool. An evil Alien as the protagonist? On paper doesnt seem to be manageable, but turned out to be a warmhearted movie about family. I loveeee Lilo and Stitch. And Emperors New groove with its comedy is also a stand out classic, along with the Sci Fi movies Atlantis and TP, all which were unique concepts for Disney. But again. This was 20 years ago. All those movies have heart and a message. Thats why all those movies are so beloved now and turned into sleeper Hits. I think most of them flopped because they seemed too out of pocket for a Disney flick and those movies couldnt be really categorized as such movies were never really done or understood before. But Wish flopped because of the complete opposite. Because it is the movie that is the most predictable in the Disney Animated Canon. Audiences expect to see something new and noone is thrilled to see a movie that doesnt bring anything new to the table or just benefits from its past. (aside from its artstyle, but how a movie is animated doesnt make me fully invested automatically).
Patricier21 wrote: โ†‘Sun Dec 24, 2023 3:13 am And thatโ€™s what the movie is really all about, not relying on others (at least explicitly) to accomplish what you truly want to let alone who you truly are. Thatโ€™s what the tagline truly means: Be careful what you wish for. Because you may lose yourself by actually wishing for it, when you actually couldโ€™ve done it all yourself
Youre exactly right with this point, that you have to have to earn your dream instead of hoping someone else will grant it for you, like they all did with Magnifico, and thats why the end is so problematic as Asha turns into a Fairy Godmother, offering the exact opposite mentioned above. Asha turning into the FGM was also one of many plotholes the Wish Pitch Meeting video made fun of.
Patricier21 wrote: โ†‘Sun Dec 24, 2023 3:13 amย  Youโ€™re finding of the pitch video of Wish being hilariousย  once again only truly proves how bias you are and leading your hatred and negativity control and indicate how you feel. It also further confirms that people regardless of how they genuinely feel or letting themselves to be influenced by the maturity because they believe that they Disagree with them, then they are wrong and there is something wrong with them
Gurl... Just because I dont like something the majority seems to dislike too doesnt automatically make me biased. Disney Duster also liked the Video AND likes the movie and thats cool! I myself dont take the video too seriously like Star just being a "Merchandising opportunity" or how everyone points out the line "I let you live here for free and I dont even charge you rent" as I think this could also been done purposely to show how little Magnifico does for Rosas and how he plays it off as multiple things, but I still think the screenrant guy mentioned many undoubtful problems and plotholes the movie had and in a hilarious way lol. I Literally watched the movie myself to build my opinion on it. I listed everything I think of the movie above. I think it was weak storytelling. I dont HATE the movie. I just dont think its good and wrote why. I would be biased if I would jump on Board and say "the movie was garbage because of the ugly Animation" or whatever. I wasnt that impressed by the Animation a few months ago, but it grew on me, but only the Animation. The story and characters however are still bad. Again, my opinion.
And by the way, I always collect my thoughts on entertainment BEFORE i look up what all those critics point out and Analyse their problems they had because I know how influential this can or will be. I only use Audience and Critic Scores to measure my expectations on things before i get into it, but finding out what went wrong and what I felt great is gladly my own task! After that I allow myself to read through numerous analytics of what details made films and series great and problematic, which I love to do since im not perfect and dont catch everything. But I dont always agree with them ( therefore I love Shaffrillas Videos, as he seems to be unbiased and I especially love the video where he points out what makes (Shrek 2) the perfect Sequel and why Shrek 3 failed and more, as this made me measure on my own why Frozen 2 was so disappointing, i really recommend his channel).

And even though i critizise their latest flicks, Im still a disneyfan. But just because I admire the studio doesnt mean that im going to eat up everything they are going to release. Their movies were pure art. And im not only talking about the old classic ones, but also recent movies like Frozen, Moana and Zootopia are one of the last great ones for me and im still optimistic about all 3 upcoming sequels/series.

I also dont really agree how the majority on the Internet says how Wish "could have been so much better" Just because Star was going to be a human or if it was handdrawn. I see the appeal, but the movie could have gone the same Route as the finished product only that Star would talk... Star is a cute character, but hes forgettable as he has no personal purpose like the rest of the movie. Ok Maybe with the human version they could have played around the idea how they are from different worlds and groups like Romeo and Juliet and how he cant stay with her on earth as his duty is to grant wishes from above the Stars watching down on earth or something. And then Asha wants to join him upthere, and finally wishes to become a Star like him and this being how she became a fairygodmother but again thats also not that outstanding, but atleast she would have a personal drive, but meh idc.

It seems more like a movie made by Disney nostalgia Fans. And yes I also think you need to enjoy and have fun making a movie, but this was a story that didnt need to be told and had no real purpose other than the 100th anniversary. I said this 158999990000000x times and now again: making movies or stories in general should always start with finding an important character arc or moral and then build the story around that, its way easier and authentic than just doing a movie adaptation simply because you like a fairytale because it has a princess in it or something, its way harder to find the heart of the project this way, something i learned.

For example my 2 personal flop movie ideas that ive been working on for like over a year build themselves so easily because im inspired by my own flaws and things i struggle with and people i know and my relationship with them and i found perfect well known fairytales where the characters have to learn the same things i did and still do and have similar conflicts with others so im really invested and relate to and love those characters and know how they have to navigate the story and whatever (i even gave the villain a motivation why she was that gruesome, in the OG Grimm she just has her quirk but it doesnt get explained how this out of pocket thing came to be or what her motivations are so i think i nailed it and i made it be a metaphora that my protagonist could have ended up like her if he didnt learn his lesson, also i did like over 90 concept arts for that and im really happy with the character designs, a bit more edgy and flawed than usual disney designs, and the script is already 100% more emotional and meaningful than Wish thats something i can promise yall yeah im proud๐Ÿ’‹) . But I also had other fairytale ideas like Wild Swans and other tales i adore but building a fleshed outย ย  story and characters for that was really hard for me because, i cant really find a Fraction of something i can relate to so i wouldnt know what the heart of the tale is and it just doesnt work for me, i also cant tell what those characters could learn and how they grow so i wasnt that passionate, so i scrapped those and just focused on the 2 that really worked and spoke to me. But it seems Disney picks stories that seem to be the most valueble ones statisticly, like Strange World getting made probably because of the hype movies like Treasure Planet or Atlantis got recently, trying to build a male audience in contrast to the princess franshise that are marketed strongly for girls. They try to avoid the princess talk during the release of their princess movies but we all those are princess formula movies. Disney probably thought they had their loyal "Girl audience" with Smash Hits like Frozen, Moana tied to the DP brand and more and they wanted to experiment and see how they can build a franshise to attract and build their male audiences (Atlantis and Treasure Planet became slowly popular again and they thought: Yes just quickly make a Science fiction road Trip movie with male characters who discover a weird world!" I think this wasnt the reason why those movies are so beloved Disney. And then
Strange World bombed INSANELY because there was literally no fraction of a selling point (the character Designs looked ugly af, the trailers didnt really Show you a conflict besides being in a "StrAngE woRlD", it was a movie for noone really and it was the first and only Disney Animated movie that I refused seeing in theatres. I relate to Jim Hawkins because I also have daddy issues lol and the movie clearly had something to say with its characters, same with Atlantis demonstrating the problems of exploiting countries and having to respect cultures, its a lesson Milos Iconic friend group learns. And most Importantly those movies had lessons.
One of many problems why Disney struggles so hard to get huge audiences to their movies is how they group their movies DRASTICALLY JUST for boys or JUST girls ("a fairytale starring a girl? Oh its one of those princess movies again..." "futuristic sci fi stories?ย  No my girly daughter I think you would like to see MLP movie instead" ) If they would show boys that they can also be the lead in a fairytale then they wouldnt feel ashamed to go see it ( i also remember back then when I was like 8/9 and talking about movies like Tangled and Frozen,ย  i got weird looks from my peers and was made fun of, and while I learned over the years that I dont care what other people might think of me (not interely but like 70/80%), there are still many people out there who refuse to be involved in something seen as girly or boyish and this being one major reason why regular male audiences avoid fairytale/ princess movies. (wasnt this the reason why Disney changed the titles to their latest fairytale movies...). Thats probably why Aladdin, Tarzan and The Lion King were the biggest movies financially out of the whole Disney Renaissance. And all those movies had eveything: heartwarming characters to root for and a great lesson. The male protagonists were just the icing on top and a breath of fresh air. I still love and Support the (upcoming) Disney Princess movies, but with only female protagonists lately, Disney has no reason to ask themselves why many males avoid them and why many grew tired as their formula seems so predictable and calculated. I think thats why I think Gigantic could have been huge (yes, pun intented), maybe even bigger (yes this was also intended) than Frozen, as Jack would be their first male fairytale protagonist since the 90s. Bittersweet topic because Im partly glad it got scrapped because it had story problems, but still would love to see disneys take on that.

Also I turned on Disney Channel a few days ago and they literally showed FOUR Wish commercials in a row! FOUR! Never saw so much marketing for a Disney movie ever! Also other TV channels constantly showed commercials for Wish. Even after a whole month there are still so many commercials and ads on streets and shops for it. Almost everywhere.
Even during the movie on Disney channel they got Pop ups for Wish that really distract from the movie, Disney is really DESPERATE, glad i changed to streaming with Disney+ (this post is sponsored by the Walt Disney Company๐Ÿ˜Š lol no but i still like D+ because of the remastering of their movies, really pretty).

Now that I think about it, the PERFECT fairytale they could have adapted as the celebration movie would be the Grimm fairytale "The Starmoney". It has the wishing star, a really selfless and poor girl trading her stuff for less and the Star rewarding her goodness with Gold and money falling from the sky. It has everything Wish aimed for, only that this one is based on an actual fairytale (which isnt necessary) and a good moral, putting others needs before yours, would be interesting to see her conflict in doubting if she should be always giving or not, as she herself was poor and needed the stuff herself. And this alone would also count as a celebration for Disneys past as a character learning to be selfless is something that fits disney well, as also Asha being selfless, only in her case because she had nothing better to do.

Also interesting that Migrations domestic performance grows and will certainly surpass Wish's in a few days. If it wasnt an Illumination flick i would be invested in it.

And I saw the Video you posted and it also was contradicting. She said something that it represents the aura of the studio with the wishes representing movie pitches or something and that Magnifico represents Lasseter or something and that only the coolest or most valueble movie ideas get granted. If thats the only way how the logic of the movie gets justified than I guess you are the one overthinking things huh?๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‰ Sorry if i sounded too mean buddy.
What I want to say is not everyone will be on the same page. Even beloved classic movies praised as being perfect also dont have a 100% audience and critic score and thats ok. There is literally no movie that has a 100% audience score on RT or Google. Even I have movies that I really enjoy despite scores being mixed, a Disney example would be Pocahontas and the DtDVD sequel (yes i even enjoy the sequel but hated it as a kid because of the other wannabe John Smith), as the media and everyone else pointing out how problematic it is as it trivializes the historical aspects and how she was really treated by the colonists and in England. While all of that is true, i still enjoy the movie and rewatch it like once a year.ย  Another one would be Home on the Range, not my favourite, but I still enjoy it really. So someone embracing something or critizising something shouldnt be such a big Deal, especially if one gives their reasons why.

I still got the artbook for Wish as im a sucker for concept art and ideas that could have been. Really pretty. :milkbuds:

And im optimistic that If Disney will drop their Ambition and quality with every next release, im sure in 20 years Wish will be celebrated as a groundbreaking cinematic Disney classic.๐Ÿ’‹

Happy New Year! ๐Ÿฅณ

Disneynerd, your ideas for Asha losing her memory of her wish and wanting to know her purpose may be a great idea, if she became really sad when she lost her wish in particular! Also, the Magnifico threatened by the star's power because he will have a crap life if something else grants wishes instead of him is great, or, it is the germ of a great idea!

Also, I wish for you to get your wish to have that thing most people have, that you desperately want. I am sorry it is such a distressing thing.

Frans Vischer wrote:I just finished watching Disneyโ€™s latest animated feature, โ€œWish.โ€ I agree with most reviews and opinions, โ€œWishโ€ was made by committee with the usual shopping list of content; bland sidekicks, dumb throw-away jokes, characters look and act like typical Disney characters, especially the heroin, and the fx animation, (technically well-done,) visual pizazz to mask the lack of substance. But this can be said for the last four or five Disney features.

What really struck me about โ€œWishโ€ is the animation- everything is overacted, every tiny nuance has its own gesture or pose, making the characters move almost constantly. The overdone lip-synch, every consonant painstakingly enunciated, as if the characters speak to the hearing impaired.

It seems the technology of CG animation has given the animators such control that everything must move, all the time. The beauty of animation sometimes lies in the lack of movement, (watch the original, [sadly in this day and age of countless sequels, this must be clarified] โ€œ101 Dalmations.โ€ The characters move when they need to, and the subtler gestures work within a held pose.) But in โ€œWishโ€ the movement is almost constant; clichรฉ-ridden, distracting hand gestures, non-stop head tilts, shoulders moving up and down. Itโ€™s as if the technology is driving the art instead of the other way around.

Letโ€™s hope the Disney brass realize their 100-year heritage and start making films worthy of it.
I hadn't necessarily noticed that when I saw the film, but that does kind of strike me as the sort of observation that, at least on a first viewing, would come more naturally to someone who works specifically with the process of animation. My issues were more with the illogic of the characters and the blandness of the songs, which are definitely not attributes I would have linked to the last four or five Disney features.

I personally might have attributed any overacting to just the style of character that Disney goes with these days--the overthetop, self-deprecating Rapunzel copycats--rather than the medium itself.
I haven't noticed it myself in Wish, but I do trust an actual, experienced animator to have recognized it. I did however notice the constant background movements and unnecessary details in modern CG movies, which makes it hard for me to concentrate on what's going on in the foreground for the fear of missing some background gag or plot point. Whatever happened to just letting a scene breathe or a shot last longer than 5 seconds without persistent noise or motion. It's like movies are made exclusively for people with ADHD.

Condolences to whatever happened to you Disneynerd last year, hopefully this year will be much more better for you. Just like what Disney Duster said, you really are great when it comes to story ideas, especially fairytale ones. Iโ€™m still reeling on your pitch for your Ugly Duckling adaption, mostly because of you using floptok humor hehe :P

Ok that makes me blush but I really thank you and im kinda proud of the duckling idea but not as proud as the other 2 main ideas (in my pickme era๐Ÿ˜)

As Queen Cupcakke probably said: " YES PAPI๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿฅฐโœจ๏ธ" I hope thats aloud to say in this forum as its the most harmless thing she said lol  8)

To round up my mostly negative feedback for Wish, their choice of Animation was pretty valid considering the legacy celebration, its not as if they can ignore the fact that the last 20 years of their CG animated films are part of their history, no matter how requested beloved or beautiful 2d Animation is. Wishs animation may not be as beautiful or outstanding as Spiderverse or Rapunzel Unbraided, but didnt need to be, and i grew to like the Animation.
And although the 7 teens didnt serve the story, the scenes where Bazeema came out of nowhere were funny and I really liked the dopey one out of all the teens the most, including Asha (maybe because his reactions and bahaviour reminds me a bit of myself especially when im with my "friend" group, as he was the most unapologetic quirky one here :P . And I kinda like "at all cost". But thats it. :)

I was surprised and yet not surprised that Wish hasnโ€™t even made $200 million yet worldwide....

Iโ€™ll catch it on DVD when I add it to my collection.

Middling though the film was, I'm happy that the fallout has been somewhat mitigated by a better-than-expected run at the box office. It doesn't merit an Elemental-level bounce back, but the animation department doesn't deserve to sink over this. Ideally, this will telegraph to the studio that audiences do want a shake-up in their animated output while still leaving them in enough of a position to make the pivot.

Anyways, I am surprised that we haven't gotten an announcement for this movie's release on D+. I think it's for the best, though, since Disney does need to learn to not just drop everything on streaming two weeks out.

Iโ€™m sorry but those figures do not warrant for it to be labeled as โ€˜clawing its way back at the box officeโ€™. It still hasnโ€™t even passed $200 million, so I wouldnโ€™t put this in the same category as Elemental, sorry.

Director Chris Buck, who directed โ€œTarzanโ€and the two โ€œFrozenโ€ films, admitted that, at least initially, it was hard to get across what โ€œWishโ€ really was. โ€œI think a lot of people, when you mentioned the 100th anniversary film, even within the studio, they go, โ€˜Oh, is this just clips of all our films? Are we using all the characters?โ€™โ€ Buck said. [...]

โ€œI think to a modern audience, you just donโ€™t want to have a moustache-twirling guy,โ€ Veerasunthorn said. โ€œWe want to know more about why. And thatโ€™s what we put a lot of work into. But then, the moment we found Chris Pine and he agreed to do this, this character just went way up.โ€
