"Welcome to Rosas" is a charming opening number with a very memorable beat to it. I am a little surprised on how short it is, but then again, so was "Frozen Heart".MoonMarc21 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 31, 2023 10:50 pm Lyric video for “Welcome to Rosas”

Dang it, I'm actually finding myself agreeing with the Disney Jr. comparisons. I'm wondering if I'm just not feeling what Julia Michaels and Benjamin Rice bring to Disney.
Congrats on finishing your costume, D23ExpoVisitor25.

Re: Wish
These welcome to our town introduction songs are getting tiresome to me. This, The Family Madrigal and Some Things Never Change are just the same song over and over.
They’re trying to be Belle, but that’s out of their league for all these new songwriters and composers
Instead of a great song where we learn about character motivation they basically explain the plot. It’s lazy writing. “Okay so we have this king and he grants wishes and people think he’s hot.”
Still excited for the movie but this song is not it.

Re: Wish
Exactly. In my opinion, we haven't had a good introductory/'Happy Village' song since Home on the Range. Welcome to Rosas is probably the worst one of its kind from the Revival and the weakest song from Wish out of the three we listened to so far.PatrickvD wrote: ↑Wed Nov 01, 2023 1:23 amThese welcome to our town introduction songs are getting tiresome to me. I can’t believe they tried to rhyme “eighteen” with “ceremony”.MoonMarc21 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 31, 2023 10:50 pm Lyric video for “Welcome to Rosas”

When the guy ran out saying “THAT WAS A DISASTER!” I immediately heard Krusty the Clown’s voice yelling “Drama queen!” in my headD82 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 31, 2023 5:40 pm Great job, D23ExpoVisitor25! I'm impressed too.
Here's a very short clip from the movie. I don't know where it comes from originally.
And "Welcome to Rosas" is already available in Europe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_OWxOTCbIU
My first impression when I heard the snippet wasn't too positive, but now that I've listened to the full song several times I like how cheerful it is. And I don't know much about music styles, but I'd say they draw some inspiration from Spanish or Latin music for this one, though maybe it's just the guitar sound. I expected it would be longer, though, and more of an ensemble song. I thought perhaps Asha's family or friends would sing in it too, but it's mostly sung by Asha, except a couple of lines by the tourists.

Speaking of...
I watched The Family Madrigal the other night and couldn’t understand even half of it, even with closed captioning. The lyrics went by too fast. I find that with most of LMM’s material. I’m not a fan...
And of course, while trying to read the lyrics, I was missing the stunning visuals.
Too much work...

Still not feeling this one. The title “Welcome to Rosas” reminds me of “Welcome to Duloc.”

Re: Wish
Got a new behind the scenes look of Welcome to Rosas that just dropped with new comments from Julia Michaels, Chris Buck, and Dave Metzger: https://youtu.be/pBXQiNY7p6A?si=3zHL1wd2HMVHyCDE.
I do like how they talk about integrating Ariana DeBose’s dancing into her performance of Asha and how they chose to choreograph the number of this song with flamingo dancers and new instruments, the latter of which reminds me of when Disney used new instruments for songs when Phil Collins did Tarzan and worked on “Trashin the Camp” with those new instruments.
Say what you will about the lyrics of the song itself, but the choreography of the song actually looks like it’s really good and that they put some effort into it.
Also, we got a new look at footage in the song that just dropped a little bit ago too: https://x.com/disneyanimation/status/17 ... 64148?s=46.
Also, are you sure, Sotiris that the last great introductory song in a Disney animated film was Home on The Range? I’ll agree with you that it was pretty good, but I feel “The Evening Star/New Orleans” in the opening of “The Princess and the Frog” was also really strong of an opening song, too.

Re: Wish
I love that they used a flamenco choreographer for the choreo, I knew since I saw the poses and castanets in another teaser.
I would love if Asha was dressed with a flamenco dress like Moana was wearing a hula dance dress during the opening song from Moana
Anyways I want Pixar to make a flamenco dancer movie in the style of Coco in some years

You're right; I should've known by the novelization excerpt her family and friends wouldn't take part in the song. I guessed I imagined "Welcome to Rosas" could begin before Asha starts her guided tour (since she seemed to be singing in the shot where she exits her home) and continue a bit afterwards, but it makes sense it's just the guided tour since Asha is singing to the tourists.MoonMarc21 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 31, 2023 8:18 pm I too also was surprised that the song is shortI was thinking that it would be 4 minutes long like “The Family Madrigal” and I’m wasn’t shocked that the Teens and Asha’s family weren’t there with Asha during the musical number because in the junior novelization excerpt you posted D82, Asha’s family is back at the Hamlet and Dahila was at the royal kitchen with the Teens helping her out.
Yeah, sometimes it's too evident they're doing it to explain the plot to the audience. The tour guide thing is a slightly better excuse in my opinion than the kids in "The Family Madrigal," for instance, but I bet they just made Asha a tour guide for this song, and her having that job is not relevant to the rest of the movie.
They change the stress of the words a lot in this song. Apart from ceremony (with the stress in the last syllable), they also say for example, Magnifico or powerful. I know it's a common practice, but I'm not a big fan of it.ElMaximo13 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 01, 2023 5:10 am I can’t believe they tried to rhyme “eighteen” with “ceremony”.

Loving Ariana’s energy in the behind the scenes footage. She’s like the total opposite of Rachel Zegler. Just seems to be really excited and grateful to be apart of Disney animation.
Such a talent as well. Her performance in West Side Stort was phenomenal.

I'm not a fan of welcome to rosas but hoping it looks better in the actual movie
Still hate the background civilians having the most generic clothes, like none of them wear the style of clothes people in 1200 Spain wore
I hope Asha gets a kaftan dress in the final scene or a flamenco dress (not exactly a flamenco dress but something similar, like the "volantes" and dots)

That featurette had a lot of new shots that really caught my interest more than most of what we've seen so far. I'm wondering how I'll feel about "I'm A Star" when that drops.
