Probably, many times these books and novels spoil the movies. That was how we knew that Elsa and Anna would be separated at the end of Frozen II, and how Ariel would be the one to kill Ursula in the remake.

That's awesome! Hopefully this means that as we enter October, Disney will release some promotion material for the film. I would love to see a behind the scenes look at the animation/art direction, music and story development of the movie. Also, movie tie-in novels are also how we learned about the Hans twist in Frozen.Farerb wrote: โFri Sep 29, 2023 10:37 am Disneyโs โWishโ Trailer Is Most Watched for the Animation Studio Since โFrozen 2โ

Re: Wish
I literally just noticed that thereโs a line of wooden mugs behind Dahlia in the part of the trailer where Asha says she thinks her mouth is drooping and each one has the first letter of each Teenโs name on it. Does anyone think this means anything?
Re: Wish
Do you guys like reading spoilers before a movie is released or would you rather be surprised? For me it depends on the movie, sometimes I like to read the spoilers beforehand so that a potential twist or a cameo appearance doesn't take my focus away from the plot, and sometimes I avoid them like the plague. Will you spoil Wish for yourselves?

Re: Wish
In general, I try to avoid spoilers but I donโt get bent out of shape if I learn one or several. I rarely see any kind of movie/TV show before itโs several months or even years old, so itโs almost impossible to stay spoiler free since I enjoy reading reviews and othersโ opinions and thoughts on something.
Since I wonโt be seeing Wish until itโs on DVD, Iโm sure Iโll know the whole story...

Depends on the movie and its reception I guess. If it's a thriller then I definitely wouldn't want to be spoiled.Mooky wrote: โFri Sep 29, 2023 1:28 pm Do you guys like reading spoilers before a movie is released or would you rather be surprised? When it comes to Disney films, they tend to be a bit predictable to begin with so I don't really mind spoilers, I also think that people give spoilers too much weight nowadays when it wasn't the case 20-30 years ago, they basically told you the whole plot in trailers back then.
I guess that when Disney relied too much on twists in the 2010s it might have sucked knowing them beforehand, but I also think a movie should still work even if the twist is already known.
I will say though that I have no idea why these books are released before the movie, and I find it ironic considering how Disney like to be so secretive about their films.

Re: Wish
I take things case by case, but I generally don't like spoilers.
Anyways, in the wake of the trailer, I'm seeing a lot of my viewpoints across both sides of the fence.
I think that Disney's determination to make the ultimate definitive "DISNEY MOVIE" is working against it, in large part owing to how Disney itself doesn't seem to know what its legacy really is. It more or less defines its output by how its worst detractors see the brand. The Mary Sue-ing of their heroines is a solid example of that. Disney doesn't really see their leading female characters as "characters" in their own right so much as "role models," which is why Asha is still up in the air for me.
At the same time, Disney trailers seldom seem to score higher than "mid" for me anyhow. I think the last time a Disney movie sold me (or would have sold me if I wasn't already a dutiful Disney attendee) with nothing but a fashionable trailer was way back with Zootopia. Encanto is a recent example of a Disney offering whose marketing was little more than adequate but actually had a lot going for it once I was able to sit with it. A lot of the nuances that make or break a movie (like whether Asha will have a real personality) probably won't be clear until we see the movie.
I'm fully open to this being the certified Disney classic it's marketing itself as, but this one has some specific hurdles to jump over, and I just won't know whether it can pull this off until it lands.

Re: Wish
Iโve been thinking long and hard and reading everyoneโs opinions about the trailer and the movie itself, even outside of this forum, like Reddit, and listening to my circle of friends and familyโs opinions. I also had to rewatch the trailer multiple times to see if I really enjoyed the premise of it. Almost everyoneโs opinions on this movie are more โnegativeโ than "positive,โ and I almost had herd mentality when reading them since thatโs the majority of what people are saying, but I cleared my mind and composed myself in order to give a fair opinion on the new trailer, so without further ado, hereโs it is...
Iโm actually not that disappointed that this trailer was a bit unsatisfying and leaned more into the โkiddieโ aspect of the movie. Disney Animation has a habit of making the teasers of their upcoming movies reflect the genre theyโre pursuing (Raya=Fantasy Action-Adventure, Encanto=Fun Magical Realism, Strange World=Pulpy Adventure) in order to make people interested in the movie and make their trailers more approachable for the younger audiences by putting more juvenile jokes and cliche dialogue. It was okay since they revealed more of the plot and whatโs going to happen throughout the movie, and Iโm still interested in it. (I didn't expect that Asha would become a fugitive.) The animation is still fine, but it felt like they didnโt have time to polish it out since they felt like they needed to chase a trend of 2D/3D animation. Hopefully, when their next movie comes out, theyโll use this style again, this time more refined.
What theyโre wearing and the setting always remind me of the stories in the Bible, which is a positive to me.
Also, the character animation is so expressive and fluid, just like in 2D animated movies. The teens look so fun, and itโs good that theyโll have a purpose here in the movie. The set design looks gorgeous! I think the challenge for this movie is how Ashaโs belief will be justified since many people (maybe myself included) are siding with King Magnificoโs belief since he has a reasonable explanation as to why heโs doing it. While Iโm glad that we got a proper villain back in a Disney film, I fear that this is the kind of movie where the protagonist thinks sheโs right and the villain actually has a point in what theyโre doing but gets defeated since the protagonist is righteous. Iโm also interested in the King and Queenโs dynamic in this movie, whether sheโs oblivious to the fact that her husband is evil by hoarding the wishes or she knows and lets Asha know that while playing along with her husband by giving him compliments and stuff.
Overall, Iโm still excited to go watch the movie because the premise still interests me, but Iโll be cautiously optimistic about it since this movie can go either wayโa great movie or an average but enjoyable one, either one of those will be fine by me.

Thanks for posting! That's our first look at the Magnifico doll. His cape is not as impressive as in the movie, but I guess he doesn't look bad. Here are some more merch pictures:ElMaximo13 wrote: โFri Sep 29, 2023 11:34 am Pictures of Mattelโs Wish collection, out October 1:

Some things I've noticed from the new toy pictures:
Apparently, Star will wear glasses made of yarn at some point. I wonder if it's a joke like the Twitter one in Moana or if he knows things about the future like Merlin or Genie.

Amaya is pictured with a golden chest in the Daylight Surprise Character Assortment. I wonder if it's of some importance in the movie.

Hal has a pot of honey next to her. Perhaps she's a beekeeper. I bet that'll make for some reference to Winnie the Pooh.

And we already saw Magnifico's scepter in the trailer, but I forgot to say that the way he uses it to create magic reminds me of Jafar's snake staff.

Is she for real?
There's no limitations to what you can do on screen with 2D animation. On the contrary, it's CG that has limitations.
Source: https://www.ign.com/articles/wish-filmm ... they-didntโWhat happens in hand-drawn is that you have the incredible hand of the artist, but also limitations in what you could do on screen,โ Lee explained. โWhat happened in CG is you'd have incredible, boundless opportunities, visually, that elevated it โ even to the point for some โ into realism, which is not what we wanted to do. The more important thing to us was to have a way to find technology that can do everything. Connect to the true vision of the artist, but bring in technology that could finally take away limitations.โ

Re: Wish
To me the most beautiful animation Iโve ever seen are the films:
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
Pinocchio
Fantasia
Bambi
Lady and the Tramp
Sleeping Beauty
Nothing in CG yet compares to the beauty of those films and the love with which they were created.
Sheโs blowing smoke, imo.

Re: Wish
Im unbiased regarding the artistic choice between choosing Cgi or handdrawn,
But in handdrawn u can literally make your characters do EVERYTHING, change shape fluidly and naturally etc. But in terms of animation, I also think you can do beautiful breathtaking animation with such a visual depth that only Cg can create. For example Spiderverse, the movie (especially 2) looks like moving concept art
the art director who inspired the style for SV also worked on some Netflix shorts for "Love Death and Robots" and its shorts "THE WITNESS" and "Jibaro" are stunnig! Really worth a watch!
I think it looks like concept art and its really just a screenhot of the short!
give also this beautiful handcrafted, painted feeling with depth , even Rapunzel Unbraided and its test footage looks like a beautiful moving baroque painting! really looked like a movie made like the paintings Lisa Keene does and this was almost 20 years ago!!!!!!!! So those movies really took advantage of their technology and justified their artistic direction. You can taste their artistic passion making it! Same with Arcane, also looks like handpainted Cg, same with Mitchells vs the Mashines.
Wish only looks like regular Computer Animation that looks a bit more flat, or like previz how most of you pointed out. But I mean it doesnt look that bad, its just that it doesnt have this depth or handpainted look like the other movies. Its Disneys first step into this direction so I believe their upcoming movies that take artistic risks will look better. But atleast Asha will look on model on every frame

Re: Wish
I agree (I bet most of us do). I know it's probably marketing/"spin" to say things like that, but is she informed on how hand-drawn films are made? I don't mean that in a mean way, but obviously everything is possible in hand-drawn. Some things are easier in CG (I'm thinking vehicles, for example)...
