Re: Wish
I think it's just because Queen Amaya has a better design than Asha (unless she gets a similar dress at the end of the movie when she becomes a princess)
And male dolls (Magnífico) don't sell well, so I guess it's just that

I mean, I am obsessed with Queen Amaya’s costume. I am more inclined to buy her doll than Asha’s. So maybe it is just an aesthetics thing…

Re: Wish
He deleted the tweet, what did he explicitly said? That the embargo ends next Wednesday or that the trailer comes out next Wednesday
Because the embargo can end and the trailer come out another day
But makes sense for the embargo and trailer to come out the same day
I'm tired of Disney showing 10/20/30 minutes to press and nothing to us

Re: Wish
Amaya is a name that comes from País Vasco and the head band looks very inspired in La Dama de Elche as you said. In my opinion they made a great job with herPokenonbinary wrote: ↑Thu Sep 21, 2023 3:03 amEdit: is that guy even spaniard/portuguese to get mad in our behalf?Lele wrote: ↑Thu Sep 21, 2023 2:36 am I'm still amazed how the biggest next Disney movie is set in Europe, using culture, clothes etc and all that white people invented, with all main characters being non white, erasing them while using their own country and culture, and the only prominent white character being the evil guy - the first Disney had in a while.
Mind blowing. I can't imagine them making a movie set in Asia or Africa with all good main characters being white, so why do they think this is fine and everyone acts the same as well, when people would be screaming genocide if Disney had a white character in a setting where white people were a minority?
And if the goal was to have non white characters, what' the reason for even going out of their way to intentionally use a european setting and not set it in fictional China, Morocco or Kenya with the same diverse cast, especially since they could use the same flawed logic that these place were historically diverse at some point in the past and it would actually align with their agenda in putting non whites in front and the main characters would make more sense?
What is even whiteness?
Why King Magnifico is considered white by him when he has the same skin tone as the rest of the brown characters
Spain has been always a diverse country, it's documented in history, the movie is set during the Al Andalus (or maybe after but around that time)
Spaniards are not white, spaniard is a nationality, millions of """"native""""" spaniards would never get considered white in the USA, there are many videos from spaniards living in the USA and not being considered white by the people.
So don't include us in your neon4z! idea of european racial purity supremacy
Spain is not white and will never be white (not even the indigenous iberos from pre-Roman times where white, they were dark-skinned)
Edit2:
Queen Amaya is so spaniard, she looks so valencian fallera mixed with "La Dama De Elche", also her name is very clearly based (at least I think) in the iconic Carmen Amaya

Re: Wish
I know Amaya is euskera, but in my opinion they copied that name from Carmen Amaya, she constantly gets viral tweets in English every 4 or 5 months, so it's not impossible that Fawn the directors knows her existenceThumper_93 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 22, 2023 5:22 amAmaya is a name that comes from País Vasco and the head band looks very inspired in La Dama de Elche as you said. Re: Wish
Someone that went to the press thing yesterday said on Twitter that the producers said Rosas was a mix of the whole mediterranean, that doesn't make any sense when the king and Queen are very obviously spanish, Asha grandparent has a spanish sephardic name, half of the Teens have spanish sounding names and the island is set close to the iberian peninsula (and the name is Rosas in spanish) and the architecture is mozarabe (also Jennifer Lee in a Barcelona event said the kingdom takes inspiration from many mosques in Spain)
What I'm saying is that they should simply say Spain, its not that difficult to say when it's pretty obvious

Re: Wish
They’re probably keeping the location deliberately vague so as to avoid having to explain why there are so many non-Spanish characters in a film set in España , except for, as you say, el Rey y la Reina.
In a fictional place such as Rosas more “diversity” boxes can be checked.

But Asha is very explicitly spanish, she's from the al andalus period, her name is Wish in Arabic and her mom name is also Arabiccarolinakid wrote: ↑Fri Sep 22, 2023 7:08 am They’re probably keeping the location deliberately vague so as to avoid having to explain why there are so many non-Spanish characters in a film set in España , except for, as you say, el Rey y la Reina.

Asha (in spanish Axa) is one of the little moorish girls from Jaén, a popular poetry from Federico García Lorca.
Half of the Teens have spanish names and the others have arabic names, the grandpa has a Spanish sephardic name
Saying the movie is not spanish is racism and antiblackness, ignoring black spanish history is ignoring spanish history

I don’t think they’ll change the date. The trailer is supposed to play in front of the new Paw Patrol movie next week. It’ll still come online on Wednesday.

Re: Wish
Sorry, I didn’t see that message. But I’ve heard since then that Disney confirmed the trailer is coming next Wednesday in a press release.
I wonder how long it’ll be before full-size dolls of the other Teens (not the mini ones we’ve already seen) are released. Actually, I have a feeling Disney will only release dolls of the Bashful-inspired Teen and the Happy-inspired Teen (and maybe the Grumpy-inspired Teen) because they might think dolls of the male Teens won’t sell very well. If that turns out to be the case, then I’m particularly looking forward to seeing what the doll of the Bashful-inspired Teen looks like because she’s my favorite Teen.Thumper_93 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 20, 2023 4:21 am The dolls are starting to appear in stores. The basic one looks really cute and the dress has the sparkles that can be seen in one of the artworks posted a few days ago

Re: Wish
Some of you have probably noticed that the back of the box for the Teens mini dolls describes the Teens as “Asha’s quirky and diverse group of friends”, which has in turn probably set off alarm bells for some of you because it’s made you think “Oh no, Disney thinks these are amusing side characters but they’re really just annoying and underdeveloped and they’re bound to take too much of the focus off Asha” or “Oh no, Disney’s putting a woke rehash of the Seven Dwarfs in Wish”. But personally, I don’t think either of those things. I’m actually looking forward to seeing the Teens in the movie because they sound quite fun (to me, at least) and as I said in my previous post, the Bashful-inspired one is already my favorite. I think someone also said in one of their posts that “The Teens” is a stupid name, but what other name can they really have if that’s what they are? I know some of you won’t agree with me, but I just wanted to give you all my two cents on the situation.

Re: Wish
Diverse friends doesn't mean their races, it also means their personalities and what they like, each of them has different passions (Dahlia cooking as we saw) so one can sing, the other dance, another architecture, another maths etc

I’m glad there’s someone else on this forum who doesn’t see the Teens as just members of different races.

Thanks for the list! It's very helpful to predict when future trailers like the Wish one will arrive. And welcome to the forum! Great Youtube channel, by the way! It's a great resource for animation fans.Animation Compendia wrote: ↑Thu Sep 21, 2023 8:21 am Hey!
This is our first post on the site. We have been following this site for a long time.
We are also excited for the release of the new trailer for Disney's Wish. We made a list showing the premiere dates of the trailers for the past Disney animated films starting with 2010's Tangled.
I was surprised the Queen had a doll too. The dress may be part of the reason, but I think she'll probably have an important role in the film as well. If her role was very small, I don't think she would get one.UmbrellaFish wrote: ↑Thu Sep 21, 2023 5:30 pm Is it significant that Queen Amaya has a doll? I’m just surprised by that, but I don’t have an encyclopedic knowledge of Disney dolls. But the only other times I can think of when a secondary, older female character was turned into a doll, they are usually villains, right? Maybe it’s just because her costume is more princess-y than Asha’s?
