The weekend is here, folks. Since it’s that time again, here’s my newest post 4 my blog 4 this week, this time about Walt Disney Animation Studios’ new short #OnceUponAStudio and how it’ll be crucial to the box office success of #Wish: http://alsaysall.com/2023/07/28/why-dis ... neys-wish/.

Do you think Disney will be pushing marketing for the short that the average person will see? Like, will there be Wish TV spots that mention something like "Come early to see the new short!"??

Not bad, even though I live in NJ not CA. But I would rather wait to see it with Wish since both short and feature are the big finale celebration stories of #Disney100

I’m more interested in how they chose these particular films to represent each decade:
1940s Pinocchio
1950s Alice in Wonderland
1960s The Sword in the Stone
1970s Robin Hood
1980s The Fox and the Hound
1990s Hercules
2000s Lilo and Stitch

I love them all, but I would think Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs would especially deserve a big screen presentation during the 100th Anniversary year. Hmmm...

Well, because Snow White was released in the '30s, I'm giving them a pass for that. But other omissions? The films chosen are not the most representative of each decade. It should have been the following:

1940s: Pinocchio
1950s: Cinderella
1960s: 101 Dalmatians or The Jungle Book
1970s: The Rescuers
1980s: The Little Mermaid
1990s: The Lion King
2000s: Lilo & Stitch

I would’ve preferred Fantasia for the 40’s, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh for the 70’s, The Great Mouse Detective for the 80’s, and The Princess and the Frog for the 2000’s..

Well, some of the most famous titles are already being screened domestically and in the UK as part of other screening programs. Perhaps they didn't want to repeat the same movies. Although, they still could have chosen better-known ones than some of those. I wish they had done something like this in other countries as well. I saw Bambi or Sleeping Beauty in theaters as a child when they were re-released in my country, but I would've loved seeing more of Walt's films on the big screen or some of the Renaissance ones again.

UK certainly had a lineup that appealed more to me. I definitely would have attended screenings of the first 6 UK titles. The US lineup..... pass.
I love Beauty and the Beast and Lion King but I’ve already seen them on the big screen numerous times.

Yes, the UK lineup is definitely better than the US one. That's the one I wish we've gotten in my country.

I like that there’s some off beat choices. Sword in the Stone would be fun to see on the big screen.

Some of these choices are random, but I get at least a couple of them- Robin Hood makes sense since it's the first DAC without any sort of involvement from Walt, as The Aristocats was conceived during his time (albeit as a live-action program on their Sunday block), The Fox and the Hound was more or less the old guard's final hurrah as the last of the Nine Old Men helped supervise the studio's new animators for the last time here. But it does seem like they went out of their way to go with the most niche choices possible for each decade aside from Lilo & Stitch and Robin Hood.

Well, it`s really surprising that they are showing movies like Robin Hood, The Fox and the Hound and Hercules, since all of them are normally perceived for not belonging to the Classic ranking. Still I`m glad to see that Hound is among the list, due to my soft spot for it. The same with both Hercules and Alice in Wonderland, the latter movie that I happen to love more and more for each viewing (and despite how Alice was perceived as a failure originally, it`s reputation has been redeemed afterwards).

Agreed. That list would`ve made more sense, due to how they were the pinnacles of their timelines.

Oddly enough, I hadn't thought about its awards chances at all yet. I don't know if it'll win, but a nomination seems possible to me.

Are we sure it would even be eligible? For some reason I assumed shorts with existing ip would be disqualified. Maybe because they had a similar rule where Toy Story 3's ost didn't qualify as having enough new material to win best OST or something.

Given it was confirmed there's no pre-existing animation used and the live-action footage is minimal, the short should have no problem meeting the eligibility requirements. I'm not sure it will be nominated though. It doesn't really have a story; it's just pure fanservice/celebration of WDAS. I don't see members of the branch being particularly warm towards such a film, especially since more independent artists outside the studio system tend to participate in the nomination process.
