Dumbo (R2) DVD has been deleted!

Post by Matty-Mouse »

I was just looking at various Disney stuff over at blackstar.co.uk and noticed that the current "Dumbo" DVD has been deleted since may 14th this year. I thought maybe it had just been deleted on their site and so went over to amazon.co.uk and its been deleted as well!

I wonder what this means, I hope it means we'll be seeing at the least the special features from the R1 release that weren't included on the last DVD on a new dvd with a better picture quailty. Or even better a 2-disc release!

Actually while I think about it, does anyone have a e-mail address for disney/buena vista UK so I can ask them what this means? Thanks in advance.

According to the leaflets in the 21st July releases, these are the only titles available:

Aristocats, The
Basil, The Great Mouse Detective
Bedknobs and Broomsticks
Black Cauldron, The
Fox and the Hound, The
Hercules,
Hunchback of Notre Dame, The
Mary Poppins,
Oliver and Company
Peter Pan
Pinocchio
Pocahontas
Rescuers, The
Rescuers Down Under, The
Robin Hood
Sleeping Beauty
Sword In The Stone

However they have an also available page on the back of the leaflet including:

Toy Story
Toy Story 2
Monsters Inc,
Lilo and Stitch
Tigger Movie, The
Many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh, The
Lady and the Tramp II
Little Mermaid II, The
101 Dalmations II

which also lists the following coming soon:

Jungle Book II, The
Atlantis II: Milo's Return
Treasure Planet

The Lion King gets a whole "Coming Soon" page to itself. Coming October 2003 - which is true, but only for one day! (it's release is October 31st 2003)

Not sure when none of the titles listed in the also available/coming soon page are not listed in the main Disney leaflet and thus are missing from the leaflet's checklist. :? Confusing. Especially as Disney UK never announce beforehand when a title is going out-of-print. What's the status of Return to Neverland for example - it's not listed anywhere in the leaflet. New titles like So Dear to My Heart and Melody Time are also not listed.

You'll see what I mean for yourself when Play get their finger out and send you your discs Matty! I'm not sure how useful the list I typed was as

Also note: Pinocchio is listed, but shows the cover from the old release, not the new Special Edition. Sleeping Beauty only shows the single disc Pan and Scan release. Peter Pan is still in print - so it looks like there's no plans for a 2 disc Special Edition release in the UK anytime soon.

I assume all the other titles, Tarzan, Dumbo, Fantasia etc are either Out of Print now, or going out of print soon.

Thanks for the info, just looking at some of my old Disney booklets and Tarzan hasn't been listed in them for ages and Fantasia was never listed for some reason. Actually Fantasia is a werid title in the UK because its only been released on video once (back in '91) and the version on the UK DVD is still that version not the "Original Uncut version" thats on the region 1 disc, buts thats a whole other topic.

Just to check is "Alice In Wonderland" listed in the book? because the current video for that has been deleted as well but not the DVD (Hopefully meaning we'll see a special edition DVD soon).

No Alice is not listed anywhere. However, as I said, I don't think the new booklet is the definitive list of what is still in print.

Given Disney's track record of 2 disc releases, I can't see Disney UK releasing a 2 disc set of Alice in Wonderland. They tend to go for duel single and double disc sets and promote the single disc sets only.

Like I say, the 2 disc Sleeping Beauty is not even mentioned in the new booklet. :(
