I didn't expect the teaser trailer would be released so soon either. And it's more than 2 minutes long! I'm excited to see it.

I loved the teaser trailers they used to release back then. They were like little short films. I wish they had continued with that tradition.

Or maybe they think the Elio teaser could make people excited for Pixar films again and might help Elemental at the box office.

It would be nice if this film overcame the odds and succeeded. I'm glad this seems to be a sign of heavy or at least moderate promotion!

That's possible, but I'm not sure how much that will help.

For me, I'm more interested in Elio, but I was probably going to see Elemental anyway, even if it was likely going to be a $5 day screening for me.

Yeah, if that's indeed their strategy, I doubt it'll make much of a difference.

Pixar's YouTube channel says teaser trailer premiere today at 11:55am (I don't know if that's American Eastern time or what):

The movie looks cute. Sort of like a reverse Lilo & Stitch.

That teaser makes me a tad skeptical, but I know teasers are often more comical and less serious than the actual film turns out to be. I just thought they'd advertise this one as more dramatic considering Elemental was framed more comical.

Pixar's trailers are seldom interesting, though their teasers are at least usually fun. I'm not crazy about them leaning into the somewhat juvenile sense of humor.

Still a fan of the concept and hopeful for the movie, even if the trailer left something to be desired.

Here's the teaser poster. It's interesting that they now emphasize that it'll be released only in theaters.

Here's also a new synopsis. Jameela Jamil and Brad Garrett have been added to the voice cast.
For centuries, people have called out to the universe looking for answers—and in Elio, the universe calls back! The original feature film introduces Elio, an underdog with an active imagination who finds himself inadvertently beamed up to the Communiverse, an interplanetary organization with representatives from galaxies far and wide. Mistakenly identified as Earth’s ambassador to the rest of the universe, and completely unprepared for that kind of pressure, Elio must form new bonds with eccentric alien lifeforms, survive a series of formidable trials, and somehow discover who he is truly meant to be.

Directed by Adrian Molina (screenwriter and co-director of Coco) and produced by Mary Alice Drumm (associate producer of Coco), the film features the voices of America Ferrera as Elio’s mom, Olga; Jameela Jamil as Ambassador Questa; Brad Garrett as Ambassador Grigon; and Yonas Kibreab as the title character.

I didn't find the last joke funny, but apart from that, I really liked this teaser. The movie looks quite good to me.

This looks really cute! The 2024 took me by surprise, hasn’t it been awhile since we got a teaser so early for an animated film?

The logo has been slightly updated. I think I prefer the new one.

A couple of official stills have been released. I was surprised Elio had a patch on his eye even before being abducted. In the concept art, he only wore it in space. Is he dressed up as a pirate or something and that's why he also wears a sash, or does he have sight problems?

D82 wrote: Mon Sep 19, 2022 4:43 pm Other names trademarked by Disney are "Asha" from WDAS' upcoming film Wish or "Olga Solis" from Pixar's Elio, but also some we don't know what movie they could be from like "General Grigon", "Ambassador Grigon", "Glordon" or "OOOOO". Grigon is probably from Elio too since we know there are ambassadors in that movie, and maybe the other two as well, as they're strange names and could belong to the aliens in that film, but we can't know for sure.
The captions of the teaser trailer reveal most of those registered names were indeed from Elio. Here are the characters and their names:

Ambassador Questa (Jameela Jamil)

Ambassador Grigon (Brad Garrett)

Ambassador Helix

Ambassador Turais

Ambassador Tegmen

We can also see Elio's father in a photo. He seems to be a military pilot. I wonder if he's alive in the movie or not.

And did you guys catch the reference to Pixar's short Burrow?

That's true. The assembly of aliens also reminded me of Lilo & Stitch.

I think so. I had a similar reaction when I saw the year.

I thought the bunny seemed familiar but couldn't place it! I wonder if any other Easter eggs are in the trailer.

That's the only one I caught, but there could be more. Pixar films are usually filled with Easter eggs and references. It would be cool if they included one to Pixar's short Lifted since it was also about alien abductions.

The film looks interesting. I don't like the character designs of the humans. They look very anime, with the much dreaded bean-mouth. Damn you, Turning Red!

It was actually Luca which started that trend, but perhaps it was more noticeable in Turning Red. I guess I've gotten a bit used to it because it didn't bother me too much this time, but I'm not a fan of that style either; at least for Pixar films.

You are right, D82.

But I felt Turning Red pushed the whole anime influence WAY further... also noticeable in the thick ankles, and the extra glints in the characters' eyes. I see the thick ankles in Elio too.

Elio himself is cute, but the premise doesn't seem that interesting.
