Thanks DisnehFan09. Ursula's cauldron looks better now I see more of it. It looks so cool!

Thanks D82 for the screencaps, though I still think Ursula has purple skin.

I think Ariel steering the ship into Ursula is stupid. Sotiris was right, Eric doing it was how Triton saw he was a good guy.

lord-of-sith wrote: Mon Apr 17, 2023 7:43 am I have found this thread (just like most threads on this forum) very useful for finding the most up-to-date info on new Disney movies. But boy does it feel like this one has really lost the plot. It's like a continuous rotation of "something new and vague is revealed" (i.e. a toy or a book illustration)...."people take it as literally as possible and complain about minute details"...."something else is released showing the first thing wasn't fully accurate"...cycle starts over.
Thank you! Coming to this forum is becoming more of a chore than a pleasure with certain members endlessly repeating their downright deep rooted hatred at every single minute aspect of this movie. It goes well beyond constructive criticism and shows no sign of stopping. I wish people who have no interest in this what so ever would focus their attention on projects that do interest them instead of hammering down every single flaw in their eyes so the rest of us can be somewhat excited about a movie many of us have looked forward to for a long time. And if it turns out to be a disappointment we can discuss that once the full movie is released and we actually have something to review...

If previous stills and merchandise pics weren't reassuring enough, these new ones prove Ursula will have purple skin in the movie.

H/T to @the.cursed.prince

Hopefully this finally puts this non-issue at rest.

It wouldn't be a non-issue to anyone who cares.

To the other one, you must not be familiar with this forum if you expect only positive things to be posted about whatever you're excited about. We all deal with that issue here, nobody's unique. That's what the ignore function is for.

Anyway, I was watching the clips of Ursula that I hadn't seen in the other trailers. The ones where she shakes her bosom, spins, and has the "I've been watching you a long time" line. I was right that Melissa McCarthy and Awkwafina are the two things worth looking forward to here, even if they aren't 100% perfect casts either. There was another line where McCarthy puts on that mob boss accent that I didn't care for though; hopefully more of the former voice and little of that. But either way she's having a ball and it'll be fun to watch her having fun if nothing else.

I had the thought last night that Ariel "standing" on her tail for the climax must be the reason they made the tails so huge and ugly. I didn't notice anything with how Bailey pronounced "smiling at me," I'll have to watch it back.

I think the tail looks really nice. But in the storybook illustrations it looks kinda weird. I was also thinking, maybe they'll find a way to make it work in the final movie (I mean her standing on her tail rotfl rotfl - I'm still laughing about it, because it's so silly).

I find this nitpicking so ridiculous. She literally climbed to Eric's ship just using the strength of her arms in the animated film, but she can't hold onto to a rudder here? Please.

Disney's Divinity wrote: Sun Apr 16, 2023 8:26 amHonestly, if they wanted to go with something as silly as her steering the ship while having no legs, they might've as well owned the ridiculousness of it all. The human item people most associate with Ariel's curiosity is a fork, right? Perhaps have the two duke it out somehow with a fork v. the trident. rotfl
Maybe Ariel should just stab her with a fork then like in Once Upon a Time.
 You laugh, but I remember people loved that moment on OUAT, I guess because it was so WTF it was funny. It would be better than her standing on her tail, a case of her daring and passion overcoming all the odds being in Ursula's favor. It's a shame, unlike many here who I know from experience have been clear how much they despise feminism over the years, I actually do support feminism but even I know that having a ridiculous resolution like this one just makes a mockery of it--which does not help "the cause," quite the opposite since most people will be rolling their eyes when it happens that way. A far cry from, say, the animated Mulan where the main character trains the whole film and then uses her wits to outsmart the villain almost every step of the way (first using the mountain when they're about to be slaughtered and then using a gendered item like the fan in order to trick Shan-Yu at the end); I always loved the moment when Mulan puts up her hair and Shan-Yu finally recognizes she's the one who destroyed him rather than Shang. To me, that's equivalent to how Aladdin outsmarts Jafar every step of the way. It would've been easy to make Ariel a strong protagonist that wasn't dumb like this.

Anyway, I think it's amazing that the film is close to double the length of the animated film. They learned nothing from the musical being killed from bloat. Honestly, there are so many things here that I recognize from the musical that piss me off, like even the way "Kiss the Girl" looks reminds me of how it is in the musical with the lit-up green water or whatever.

These fluff articles have the dumbest titles, lol--you mean, cast her how she's supposed to look? Or did he think Ursula only became a "big" character once he decided she was? I guess the directors who make these remakes--or just some of them anyway--don't even have eyes in their heads.

I inferred he wanted her big because she was in the original.

Old Fish Tale, realistically she would be slipping and sliding on her tail, unable to stand.

I honestly looked at that drawing and assumed she was using her arm strength to hold onto to the rudder instead of standing on her tail. She climbed the ship using her arm strength in the animated film when she saw Eric for the first time, which looked like a taller order.

I agree. She looks great there.

I started reading Jodi Benson's memoir last night, going to try to read at least one chapter a day to make sure I finish it all since I get too easily distracted by so many other things going on otherwise (although I ended up reading four chapters last night). Anyway, I think Ashman's advice to Benson that she talks about near the beginning of the book--"Less 'singing,' more intensity"--is advice Bailey didn't receive here apparently.

When was I listening to the POYW reprise, I would occasionally think that I wish she went more in only on that final "part of your world" when she's on that rock with the wave behind her. But now listening the bailey version despire her going all in I feel nothing and still much prefer the original reprise by far :( I guess Ashman really knew best

Many dolls and other products, including some new ones, are now officially available on Amazon and other places. I guess it's OK to post the images of Mattel dolls now that they're officially on sale. If it isn't, please let me know and I'll remove them. I'm sorry I posted the Peter Pan & Wendy ones. I didn't want to get anyone in trouble. I knew there had been an issue with posting these images before, but I thought there wasn't any problem on that occasion since they were on Amazon. I didn't realize at first it wasn't an official release.

Here's our first look at "Celebration Ariel Doll". I suppose this is the pink dress we saw in set photos, which one of the books confirmed it's the one Ariel will wear at the end of the movie.

Here's another doll, which is not available yet, in a variation of the same outfit.

This is "Sing & Discover Ariel Doll". According to the description, it sings a 30-second clip from Ariel's new song "For the First Time".

I guess that confirms there won't be a wedding. Unsurprising given all the other changes they've made to address criticisms hurled at the original, but it's a pity we won't get to see Ariel in a wedding dress.

I’m not sure how true it is but I saw someone saying she will have 11 outfits so maybe the wedding dress will still be there?

But it is weird that if she does have more dresses they only advertise the blue and pink dress in the merch so I don’t know
