That's also true. If they had made them siblings in the final film, perhaps her design would've been different and she would've looked more like a mermaid. In the remake, she doesn't look that out of place since merfolk have more varied designs, but she's still the only one who has that skin tone. I'm glad to find out more people have the same opinion as me on this. I was under the impression most fans liked that theory and it was almost canon for them.

I saw this on Twitter from an account called Pop Crave. Apparently, they think the updated lyrics to "Kiss the Girl" will be Sebastian's line "It don't take a word, not a single word". If they're right and it's just that, it's not too big a change.

By the way, if you google "The Little Mermaid", the news about the lyric changes is everywhere. Disney has updated song lyrics before in the remakes; I'd say almost all of them include revised lyrics, but for some reason this time the news has really piqued everyone's interest.

I think that's because the reasoning for these lyric changes is more ridiculous this time around. Aladdin removing the word "barbaric" in Arabian Nights doesn't seem that bad in comparison.

Don`t worry, I wasn`t offended at all ;)
Do you think if Whoopi Goldberg (with whom I fundamentally disagree) thought her hyena was a black stereotype or promoter of segregation she would have agreed to do the role?
Most likely not.

This probably isn’t helpful because it doesn’t say anything we don’t already know, but just thought I’d post this video. At 22:09, Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel talk about TLM.

The usual crowd hasn't changed, that's all the past page tells me; apologies for riticizing Rob Marshall doing an awful job again. You should know that attempting to dogpile someone who disagrees with you makes them much less likely to listen to you or acknowledge anything you have to say as genuine, not more. I usually just criticize louder in response to that.
Oh, I am sorry you felt dogpiled on. You are my friend, so I was trying to convince you the live-action version of your favorite movie had come true. You also were the person with the most different opinion from mine. I now must add Sotiris to my list of people I disagree with. I still see this as a very Beauty and the Beast-like remake and now he doesn't, either. Well, after the film is out, we'll see how we all feel.

The Cinemark ad in better quality (in Spanish): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Tdux5wjj9A

By the way, people online believe Ariel could be wearing the transformation dress in this still, and I think they might be right. The shade of purple seems lighter than that of her bra and similar to the color the transforming Ariel doll is wearing. If that was true, this image could be from the moment at the end when she's about to emerge from the water and go towards Eric.

Regarding the article, there wasn't too much new info in it, but it was funny Jonah Hauer-King was the person that got the wettest making the film, as Halle and the merpeople filmed most of their scenes dry-for-wet.

I guess you're right. I agree the changes are ridiculous. I guess what bothers me is that I've read some of the articles and journalists act like this is something unprecedented.

I am curious though, Duster. It's not surprising that I would dislike this if I think it's more like Mulan, Alice, etc. since I hated and/or disliked those types. But if you think this film is like B&tB, Aladdin, etc. I'm surprised you're positive about this since, from what I recall, you didn't like those films.

Same. But there are a few similarities in their designs, as far as the noses / facial structure.

Oh, Divinity, I thought most people would see the remake of their favorite film no matter what, but I've learned even that isn't always the case. I feel Ursula in the remake is gonna be great to both of is, but I don't know, I just hope so!

I love Beauty and the Beast live-action. But it's mostly because it looks beautiful. I am a very visual person. I did constantly talk about how bad the film is, but I have even talked about the bad stuff in Cinderella, like Lily James not being a good actress and stuff. I still love that film. I actually just re-watched the Aladdin remake last night. Same as I thought before, it's ok. All the films are ok, with me thinking Cinderella is good, but of course I am biased!

Unpopular opinion but I don't see a problem in Ariel being damsel in distress in the fight against Ursula. I mean she gave up her voice and her whole life for Eric, so even when I was little I thought he might as well do something for her lol
Their relationship was confusing since the beginning anyway, and unlike the original tale who treated it more logically the disney version already muddied the waters by changing the ending, so Eric saving her doesn't sound bad to me

Yes. Very much yes.

I also don't think that it's such a bad thing for Ariel to have to be saved in the climax. I would feel different if she hadn't already rescued Eric from literal death twice by this point (not to mention from marrying a squid), but after all the weight she's had to pull I don't think it reveals a feminist failing if she had to phone a friend that one time.

If they wanted Ariel to defeat Ursula, they should have found a different way to go about it. Her trying to stand on her mermaid tail looks absolutely ridiculous. Not to mention, unlike Eric, Ariel wouldn't know how to steer a ship. Make it make sense, Disney!

Personally, I never had an issue with Eric being the one to defeat Ursula because it had a purpose beyond mere chivalry. Eric's heroic act changed Triton's perception of humans and proved to him that he's worthy of his daughter.
