Anything to do with the recent downtime?

I can't even put it back... when I go into profile, the bit at the bottom for adding an avatar is missing

So just a little puzzled here...

I think you have to have 50 posts before you can have an avatar.

A change then? I had an avatar (of Chip & Dale) until the weekend just gone

Indeed, if you click my profile, you'll see it's still there. Just doesn't appear in the forums...

It's something that just went through within this past week. You now need to have at least 50 posts in order to have an avatar. But this doesn't give you an excuse to start making random posts in order to raise your count.

Everything Renata says is correct. Avatars remain in tact, but they won't show next to every one of your posts until you have posted 50 times or more. This serves two purposes: 1) to encourage people to post regularly, and 2) to save a tiny bit of bandwidth from avatars of infrequent posters/newbies.

Obviously, posting inanely for the sake of getting up to 50 is not a good idea, and there will be repercussions for anyone who attempts something like that. Otherwise, with regular posting, you'll get your avatar next to posts in a pretty short time. And you'll have earned it!

Welcome to the forum, GrinningCheshire. The forum is now set up so that you have to have 50 posts before you're able to display an avatar next to your posts. When that happens, you should see an option in your Profile (upper right corner above the forum: <a href="profile.php?mode=editprofile" class="mainmenu"><img src="templates/Appalachia/images/icon_mini_profile.gif" width="12" height="13" border="0" alt="Profile" hspace="3" />Profile</a>) to upload one from your computer or some place on the Internet, or select from the Gallery.

Of course, it should go without saying...but I'll say it anyway. Don't try to make a number of meaningless posts to get an avatar. Naturally contributing to discussions will get an avatar for you in a reasonable amount of time, and by then, you should feel like a regular part of the UltimateDisney.com community!

This makes no sense at all, it was showing up fine and then today it no longer shows up. I look all threw about updating my profile and could not find any help on this ?

yea, but I remember when I first signed up in Dec. 2004, the 50 post thing was removed so ANYONE could have an avatar. (there was a thread of this...somewhere.

I guess reinstated the rule because of the bandwidth issues!

I just joined this forum, and i'm trying to figure out where you can select an avatar. I went to the Profile link, and I dont see anything there. Do I need a certain amount of posts or something before I can get an avatar, or am I just completely missing the link for it?

The link that RJKD posted explains the change. Once you hit 50, an option should show up in your profile.
