Is there any Disney animated film you have NOT seen?

Post by carolinakid »

Since I consider those who post here to be Disney superfans, I was curious if there are any Disney animated films you haven’t seen yet? I have quite a few but they are all from 2003 or later.

Probably the most popular films I’ve haven’t seen yet are:
Finding Nemo
Frozen
Frozen 2
The Incredibles 2
Tangled
Toy Story 3 & 4

The irony is I have all of them through Strange World on DVD.
I could make excuses... I work full time...my boyfriend who’s not a Disney fan occupies much of my free time...I am very involved in my church and volunteering for my local political party which takes up much of the free time not spent with Manuel (mi novio)... I have other TV shows and news programs I watch first... but probably the biggest reason is that about 20 years ago I started losing interest in the subject matter of Disney films in general.
When I do watch them (I saw WALL•E, Meet The Robinsons and Toy Story 2 over the last year for the first time) I enjoy them.... they just aren’t must see for me now as they were when I was younger.

So what Disney films from Snow White to Strange World have you either not seen or perhaps not ever finished? Thanks !

I have seen all of the theatrical (or would-have-been-theatrical-if-not-for-Covid), Disney and Pixar animated films. I have seen most of the DTV but not all of them all of the way though (THoND2, TLM3, 101D2, TF+tH2 I haven't seen 100% of the way through).

Wow, blackcauldron, I’m impressed!
I’ve seen every Disney and Pixar theatrical release from 1937 through 2002. The made for DVD sequels to the classics I’ve deliberately avoided. Zero interest and I find the animation from the little I’ve seen to be so poor and substandard.

I have recently managed to complete Pixar's entire filmography when I watched the Cars films and The Good Dinosaur.

I have seen everything from Disney Animation.

I never bothered with most of Disney Toon's output and never will. I only saw some of the DTVs when I was younger, but I don't intend to watch them ever again, or watch what I never watched before, especially Bambi II. I never bothered with the Tinker Bell movies as well.

carolinakid, I'm surprised that you never watched Tangled or Frozen. I thought you were a "Princess Fanboy". What made you decide to watch movies like Wreck-it Ralph or Big Hero 6 or Strange World instead of those?

Farerb, again I’m also impressed with your accomplishment and I totally understand and agree about the straight to home video releases.

I am very much a princess fan boy but I haven’t seen much after 2002 for the reasons I listed above. I will certainly get around to watching the Frozens, Princess and the Frog and Tangled some day.

Also I tried to list the films that were/are the most popular that I haven’t seen which might surprise some posters. But I haven’t seen the Ralphs, Big Hero 6, Zootopia, Moana, Coco, Raya, Encanto, Turning Red etc, either. Too many to list. Thanks for asking. I do enjoy much of what you post!

All the package films, Meet the Robinsons, Chicken Little, Wreck-it Ralph, Strange World. From Pixar, I haven't seen A Bug's Life, Monsters INC, and Monsters University, and Soul.

Thank you, carolinakid :)
I also enjoy reading your posts. I always like to find more people with deep appreciation for the films during Walt's time.

I understand your lack of enthusiasm. I also sort of lost interest in Disney myself after Treasure Planet. I still went to Pixar films afterwards like Finding Nemo and Ratatouille. I find most of their films to be good, but other than WALL-E I don't feel emotionally attached to them.

I became interested in Disney again after watching The Princess and the Frog on a flight and Tangled on TV. Frozen was the first of their films I went to see in theaters after Treasure Planet. However, I realized that my enjoyment of films like Tangled or Frozen was because it was my first experience with Disney in my adulthood, but today I don't find them that interesting, they perhaps were more relevant back when they were released because of the trends that used to be popular in those days (irreverent DreamWorks humor and constantly nitpicking Disney fairytale films). I still like Moana, but other than that, I really think that their recent films are just fine.

Cars 2
Cars 3
Chicken Little
The Wild

I've seen bits and pieces of those last two, maybe even the full films once you combine what I've seen together, but could never suffer the whole way through either of them in one sitting.

DTV sequels, there are quite a few I've never watched, even though I own a few of the ones I've never watched because Disney often packs them alongside the first film these days (like Atlantis II). There are a few I like to some degree though, such as Bambi and the Great Prince, The Enchanted Christmas, Simba's Pride, etc. Those few that are okay don't feel any different than watching the TV series for Aladdin, Tangled, TLM, etc. for me, ultimately non-canon but entertaining to some degree or in some ways.

By WDAS and Pixar, nope, I've seen everything. Disneytoons is a different story, though, and I'm not exactly eager to get to most of their works (primarily the sequels), although I like some things, like the Goofy movies.

There are a few animated works done by Disney that I haven't seen yet, like Zemeckis' Christmas Carol or Frankenweenie, although I do own the latter and do intend to get to.

It’s funny that when I finally saw Cars 2, I didn’t hate it as much as I thought I would from all the negative reviews. I really don’t even like the concept of Cars (except for Carsland in DCA which I love) so I’ve been dreading Cars 3. I’ll bite the bullet someday. I’ve never played a video game so watching the Ralphs is another thing I’m not looking forward to.

I'm sort of the opposite. I liked the initial concept for Cars since I always loved those Walt Disney shorts of "Little Toot" and...I always forget the title, it's a short about the life of a little blue car (that was a girl). The latter in particular was one of those shorts played on the Disney channel all the time when I was growing up that I loved (like with movies, some of the shorts are more fun than others). Anyway, so the *conceit* of Cars sounded appealing somewhat to me--despite really hating PIXAR back in those days when it was released. But the finished product was just... Bland, like almost everything Lasseter was involved with.

Susie, the Little Blue Coupe. I love that too. Little Toot and Pedro too. For me I guess it’s because cars never interested me like Hot Wheels or Matchbox Cars. Even now, as long as the car I drive is reliable, I don’t care about the color, make or model! (I drive a 2016 white Honda CR-V, just to let you know. My boyfriend is the car guy between us.)

Lightning McQueen is basically the red racing car from The Story of Anyburg U.S.A.:

Wouldn't surprise me to learn that this short inspired them, just like it wouldn't surprise me to learn that Toy Story was inspired by Broken Toys and China Shop. A Bug's Life is already a spin on the tale of The Grasshopper and the Ant (but that wasn't really invented by Disney).

Pretty sure I have seen all the Pixar films.

I don't bother with Disneytoons and DTV cheapquels, though I have seen some.

Out of the classics... I have seen all except:

- Dinosaur (it didn't look/feel like a DAS film)
- Meet the Robinsons (this one and Bolt... I hated Chicken Little so much I couldn't bring myself to watch the next attempts at CGI from Disney... until Tangled)
- Bolt
- The many adventures of Winnie the pooh. (Somehow I have never gotten around to watching this one. Though I am sure I saw parts of it when I was a kid)

I think that is it...

I agree about Dinosaur.
I consider myself a Disney purist, but I’ve never considered Dinosaur part of the canon of Disney Animated Classics no matter what Disney says.
Never saw it and never wanted to. I don’t even own it and I own Lightyear and Strange World, so that says something.

I did see Chicken Little and didn’t hate it as much as some. I actually thought some of the peripheral characters (the ugly duckling, the fox, the pig etc.... sorry I can’t remember their names without googling) kind of funny.

Bolt the same. I liked the cat and hamster. I’m not a Miley Cyrus fan but her voice work didn’t trigger me.

Meet the Robinsons I enjoyed more than I though I would and I actually found the dark haired kid kind of cute which is weird...but not really as I think Prince Philip is a hunk and Cinderella is beautiful, examples of my finding animated characters attractive.

Cars 3 is absolutely an upgrade from Cars 2 (which I didn't hate either). I think the 3rd film is just about as enjoyable as the first - I really like those 2 films.
