I think in the play.Disney Duster wrote: ↑Mon Feb 13, 2023 10:09 pm I read the book years ago, and don't remember the stuff about the Darlings unsure of they would keep Wendy or adopting the Lost Boys. Were those things in the play or the book or both?

Disney removed all the leaked photos from social media. They have been having issues with leaks lately with this and The Little Mermaid. Can't wait to see the rest of the characters from Wish for the first time as ugly toys.

You can find it in the first chapter of the bookDisney Duster wrote: ↑Mon Feb 13, 2023 10:09 pm I read the book years ago, and don't remember the stuff about the Darlings unsure of they would keep Wendy or adopting the Lost Boys. Were those things in the play or the book or both?
Wendy came first, then John, then Michael.
For a week or two after Wendy came it was doubtful whether they would be able to keep her, as she was another mouth to feed.

Thank goodness abortion was illegal back then or Wendy would have been a goner!
I never knew Peter Pan (the book) was so dark.
The Darling Family in Walt’s version is decidedly upper middle class, imo. I always loved their home in the Bloomsbury neighborhood of London, and wanted to live there. (I was 9 when I first saw the film.) I love Mary Darling’s party dress and Wendy’s iconic blue nightgown.
The little I’ve read of the original that folks have posted here makes them sound like something out of Oliver Twist!

Peter pan is really cruel in the book. Sometimes I didn't even like him. But you should read the complete story. It is really good and magical

He's worse in the book, but he's a jerk in the Disney movie, too.Thumper_93 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 15, 2023 5:36 am Peter pan is really cruel in the book. Sometimes I didn't even like him.

Listening to most often lately:
Taylor Swift ~ ~ "The Fate of Ophelia"
Taylor Swift ~ "Eldest Daughter"
Taylor Swift ~ "CANCELLED!"

That's why the ending of the original works so well. It captured the bittersweet ambivalence of the childhood experience. When you grow up, you aren't always sure if some moments from your childhood really happened or not. They kinda feel like memories from a dream. The filmmakers of the original understood that and were able to convey it well.
Agreed. It would have been less egregious had they gone with that.

What are your thoughts on the 2003 adaptation? I know some members here are fans if it and even prefer it to Disney's.carolinakid wrote: ↑Sun Feb 12, 2023 6:18 pm My Peter Pans are the 1953 Walt Disney classic and the Mary Martin Broadway production.

Farerb,
I never saw the 2003 version. I’m sorry I can’t comment.

Re: Peter Pan & Wendy (Live-Action)
I've stayed mostly out of this discussion because I'm not too familiar with the many versions, and although I like Disney's original version, it hasn't ever been one of my main go to's. I will say that the leaked images weren't all too bad, but nothing that wasn't expected. I think of this as another cash grab by Disney and in the end will have as much spark as Pinocchio did.
The ending was never something that stuck with me, and I think it's treated that way in most versions. The whole "we'll adopt everyone" thing is very silly, and plays into the whole fairy tale/happy ending pattern. It's like 101 Dalmatians. A Dalmatian Plantation... really? That would be a hellscape in less than an hour. It's just best, that no one think too deeply into it. I do prefer Disney's original in that way.
I remember liking the 2003 version and I own a copy of it on DVD. I don't think I've watched it in 15 years though, and don't remember how it wrapped up. I'm sure I'll watch this new version none the less, but I'm less sure I'll treasure it and view it multiple times. In the long term when I get a Pan-hankering I'll probably always go to Hook or the animated version.

Did they announce an official release date?
I thought Return to Never Land was one of the decent DTV sequels. I remember watching it in theaters with my mom and sister, and then, my mom got me the original theatrical poster, that I got to hang in my room.

"After all, tomorrow is another day!"

Hard pass. That trailer did nothing for me. I’ll stick with the 1953 Walt Disney classic!
