Re: Tarzan Live-Action?
I hope it happens eventually and Disney finally just sucks it up and pays for the rights. It’s worth it, imo. Since I made that post on all the other Renaissance films having been / getting re-made in live-action, I’ll add that I would be open to Pocahontas as well. I just know Disney’s too cowardly to touch it (same for a Broadway show). I'd love if they just did it anyway and didn't care about the controversy, since even Hunchback is happening.

Don't expect a Tarzan remake anytime soon. Disney was too cheap to acquire the rights.

Re: Tarzan Live-Action?
Only one studio can have the rights at any given time?
Sucks if that's the case. When I read about it last night, I thought it could be a positive sign they may make one soon, much like how a bunch of Pinocchio's happening at the same time. If more than one studio can have the rights at a time, perhaps this might trigger Disney to finally make a remake for Tarzan?
Honestly, I only think a remake of the Disney film would have much chance at success. Much like with Hercules, Robin Hood, and Peter Pan, there are dozens of live-action adaptations that mostly flop. I think only a live-action film that was noticeably the Disney version of Tarzan (in other words, featuring the music and emphasis on Kala in the promos) would have a shot. I feel that way about Hercules, too, if it doesn't have the music from the animated film it'll just look like any random live-action adaptation. And those seem like they're never very successful, so... Same with Robin Hood, only if it was an animal take would it stand out among a sea of live-action adaptations of that story that people rarely care about.

Re: Tarzan Live-Action?
Technically they could sell the rights to anyone interested, but usually the contracts have a clause requiring exclusivity so no one can release competitive productions

Source: https://thedisinsider.com/2023/10/18/al ... the-works/Skyler Shuler wrote:There are also remakes in development for Princess and the Frog, Tangled, Frozen, and Tarzan. While there have been tons of rumors floating around regarding who Disney has as their top choice for these films, sources have told us that none of that is true and these are very much in early development.

Wouldn't Tarzan's appearance in Once Upon a Studio be an indication they have the rights again? Maybe? Hopefully?

*Edit* not much different than speculation we can do, but:Sony Pictures has picked up the screen rights to the character from Burroughs’ estate...The rights deal is also interesting in that Tarzan is an IP that straddles both public and private domains. The early stories are squarely in the public domain but Burroughs wrote adventures into the 1940s, with some stories published years after his death in 1950. The estate owns the Tarzan trademark.
