• According to
Film Music Reporter, Henry Jackman is scoring the film. This will be his fifth work for WDAS after
Winnie the Pooh (2011),
Wreck-It Ralph (2012),
Big Hero 6 (2014) and
Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018).
• These book covers were posted in the other forum while this one was down. I suppose the last one gives us our first look at the plants that make the city where Searcher and his family live prosperous. Part of the city itself can also be seen in the background.

• These book synopses reveal some new details about the story. The first three were already posted in the backup forum and the last two are new. The first and last ones seem to suggest the Clades will meet more friendly creatures in the underground world apart from the blue one featured in the trailer.
The Clades are a family of explorers living on Avalonia. When a mysterious plague begins to infect the crops of pando, the plant from which the energy that powers their world is extracted, three generations of Clades set out on an adventure that will change them forever. To discover the cause of the plague that is threatening their home, they will delve into the depths of a subway world full of dangers, but also of allies.

Prince Kido wrote:The presentation of Strange World pleased me more than I expected after the recent reveal of the teaser trailer which left me a bit disappointed, especially because of the designs of the male characters and their kind of cartoony Sony's like eyes.
At the end, it didn't bother me that much as we got to see much more at Annecy festival yesterday.
It may sounds like a cross between Avatar, Jules Verne novels and Atlantis but with its own flavor so it didn't bother me at all nore that I thought about those movies during the presentation.
Character poses, live reveal of the cast, montage of concept arts, brief of the story, animation tests and 3 clips more or less finished were shared to the audience I attended.
And now, I am as excited as any other Disney animated movie before!!
Roy Conli, whom I know since I worked at the french ex-studio in Paris, told us that of course there is much more to that strange world that the characters will discover, meaning probably a big twist or reveal.
The overall settings are fantasy like, a bit steampunk.
The heart of the film are the relationships between dads and sons.
Jeager and Searcher are complex and difficult while Searcher and his son Ethan are positive and supportive.
To sum up my biggest feeling while it's only a backstory set in the 1st act that has nothing to do with the expedition adventure all along the movie, is the fact that Ethan is openly gay.
I knew for a long time there might be a LGBT character in this movie but with no more informations since.
I didn't expect it to be that clear and positive and just... normal!
Ethan has some friends, including Diazo, and it's obvious they have a crush on each other and they look attentive while shy to each other. It's very cute, typical teenage like, and Searcher comes to meet Diazo while his son is embarrassed like any other teen whom his parent wants to meet his crush. Searcher is clearly supportive. Nothing to add, no specific words to put. They just be and I was personally so moved to tears in the room because I hoped to someday see a main character in a Disney animated feature who is gay and it finally happens and it's so well done.
if you have specific questions about what we saw at Annecy, don't hesitate and I will try to answer within the next days.

I was writing a reply to your comment the moment the forum went down some months ago. I've wanted to finish it and post it since it came back, but finally I haven't done it until now, so sorry for the late reply. Thank you so much for all the info,
Prince Kido! I really appreciate it. Your excitement after seeing more about the film makes me a bit more curious about it. I'm still disappointed with the character designs; not because they look that bad to me (though they don't look good to me either), but mainly because I fear these influences from other animation styles becoming more and more common in WDAS films and Disney losing their own signature style. I wouldn't mind it that much if it was a one-off. After all, there have been other films in the past that don't look too Disney either, like
Chicken Little or
Meet the Robinsons.
I'm also glad to hear the gay representation is well done and it's moving to hear what it meant for you personally.
I do have some questions, but I know a long time has passed since the presentation, so if you don't remember these details or don't have time to reply, don't worry. After all, the D23 Expo is now just around the corner, so I guess we'll get answers to these things very soon anyway.
First of all, I'm curious about why the Clade family and the rest of their community are living in Avalonia. Did they mention how they ended up in that place or how long they've been living there? Are they a big or a small community?
Regarding the settings, so far we've only seen the underground world where the main adventure takes place. You mentioned all the settings are fantasy-like. Does that mean Avalonia's surface is also like that? Did it look similar to the underground world?
Did they mention when the movie takes place? Did the buildings, clothes, etc. in Avalonia look modern or old? How advanced is the technology?
Disney's Divinity wrote:I forgot to say that it's nice to see Lucy Liu in a Disney film. But at this point I'm assuming Chalamet is no longer involved or he's playing a secret character that's revealed late in the film?
If he's really in the film, I think his casting will be announced at D23. Regarding Lucy Liu's character, I don't know why I didn't think of this before but I think it's likely Captain Calypso Kahn, the registered name which was supposedly of a character from this movie, was an old name for Callisto Mal. Both names sound similar and we know Callisto is kind of a leader in Avalonia, so maybe she is (or used to be in an old version of the story) a captain.

It's kind of been a pattern for Disney to push their more "experimental" films near films they know will be successful. I think it has to do more about saving face than setting it up for failure. This way if it's a success they can praise it as being a part of a great season, otherwise if it's not then a film like Black Panther II will completely blow over it and they can still bask in having a hit.
I think that's the strategy Disney recently used releasing
Miss Marvel and
Obi-Wan Kenobi simultaneously on Disney+, knowing
Miss Marvel would most likely be a flop, as it happened. We'll see if it's the case here or not, although
Strange World is more directed at kids than the
Black Panther sequel, so I think they could both coexist. What I still don't understand is them releasing
Disenchanted the next day on Disney+, but I could see that film being delayed until Christmas, for example. We'll find out later this week if it keeps its date or not.
Speaking of
Strange World and
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, I recently realized that both these movies, as well as the
Avatar sequel (which comes out three weeks after the WDAS film), have a lot in common.
Avatar is very similar to
Atlantis, and an undersea tribe like the Atlanteans will play a big role in
Black Panther 2. Plus, they're blue like the Na'vi! And, as we've already discussed,
Strange World has elements that remind of both
Atlantis and
Avatar. It's curious that the three films will be released so close to one another.
