So much wokeness! How did we ignorant rubes survive without Ms Zegler and Mr Garfield to school us!
I never realized West Side Story had ZERO cultural impact until Spielberg and Kushner got ahold of it.

That's Sean Bailey. He has no idea what he's doing. How can one screw up a sure thing so many times? And never learn from their mistakes? It's truly mind-boggling. It takes a special kind of incompetence to achieve that.Disney's Divinity wrote:Whoever's in charge of the live-action division needs their head examined.
I was thinking...what if they hired kids instead? I'd rather have kids take over the role of the dwarfs than some random magical creatures. At least, they'd get to keep the same names and serve a similar purpose as the dwarfs in the film. What do y'all think?PatrickvD wrote:And there’s no reason for little people to play these roles. Their comments did come off as condescending and arrogant.carolinakid wrote:How did we ignorant rubes survive without Ms Zegler and Mr Garfield to school us!

That could actually be kind of cute. In the animated feature Snow suspects orphans live in the cottage when she first gets there, if I remember correctly? I mean why not?Sotiris wrote:I was thinking...what if they hired kids instead? I'd rather have kids take over the role of the dwarfs than some random magical creatures. Knowing Disney they’re gonna go full Maleficent and have a bunch of half elf half orcs living there, guarding some secret portal to a magical land they’re keeping hidden to prevent a magical genocide or whatever. Can’t wait to not watch that.

Children would actually suit a re-make of the Disney film considering the way Snow White practically mothers the Dwarfs in the Disney film.

Love stories are illegal now.
What I don’t understand is that they don’t see that the love story is not the issue for most people. It’s the ‘instant’ love at first sight. This can easily be fixed by having them fall in love gradually, right?
But Disney throws it out altogether. Just not interested in this. Either you honor the film that laid the foundation for your company or you leave it alone.
It’s offensive.

Boy, is this gonna suck. No more love story, we have magical creatures, instead of the dwarfs. I wonder how will Snow White awaken from her slumber in this one. Jeez. They handled Cinderella so well, with everything. Why can't that be done for Snow White as well?

Re: Snow White (Live-Action)
This. Well, and Snow White (like Aurora) not really having a goal or personality beyond finding love and cleaning. SW was probably always going to have a great deal changed about her and the romance because SW is a child in the original... That said, they could've added depth without completely altering everything. I mean, how does making the Prince into Robin Hood fix any of this?PatrickvD wrote:

Cinderella is the only one of the Walt princesses that wouldn't require heavy lifting in that regard. Not only did Cinderella have more personality than SW and Aurora, her cleaning was practically an enslavement for her rather than the joy of her life like with Snow White. Maybe if the Snow White remake had happened earlier, around the time Cinderella and B&tB were made, they wouldn't have completely altered it; unfortunately it came during this new Mulan phase of making everything unrecognizable. At least SB being altered is more forgivable since Maleficent was a re-imagining and they changed the title to reflect that.

Well, to be honest I'm not so sure cleaning was actually Snow's "joy of her life."Disney's Divinity wrote:Not only did Cinderella have more personality than SW and Aurora, her cleaning was practically an enslavement for her rather than the joy of her life like with Snow White.

Imagine a termite attack on the kingdom completely destroys all cleaning implements. Snow White: "All the brooms, brushes and washcloths within a hundred miles have turned to dust. There is nothing to live for any more. Goodbye cruel world!"

Guys, they aren't getting rid of the love story, just the focus on the love story.

Agreed.

Yes, agreed. Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast were fortunate enough to escape this nonsense. Snow didn't love cleaning. She cleaned the dwarfs' house out of the goodness of her heart; to help out what she thought was a bunch of orphaned children without expecting anything in return. If she loved cleaning, she wouldn't have sung a song to make the chores more bearable and pleasant. I'm really tired of this misconception about the character.Jules wrote:Well, to be honest I'm not so sure cleaning was actually Snow's "joy of her life."I think he had just cleaned so many things at that stage that she was a total pro, and that was one thing she could do really well to help the "little children" (i.e., buy their sympathy.)

Re: Snow White (Live-Action)
Here's the full quote from the recent interview Zegler gave.
Source: https://d23.com/podcast/d23-inside-disn ... ide-story/Q: Can you tell us about the film and your version of Snow White?
Rachel Zegler: The Snow White from the 1930s cartoon is very much written in the male gaze. She is wishing for her prince to come and take her away from the life that she's living, take her away from her reality. That's not the case in this one. Very similarly to the way Maria was reimagined for West Side Story by Tony Kushner, there's more agency here. There's a lot more active choice-making. I really love that about this script. The focus is not on the love story. It's not on wishing for a prince to come or 'I'm wishing for the one I love'. It's nothing like that and I really, really love that because I think that's something that a lot of young people need to see. The music is so fantastic. It's Pasek and Paul, so how could you go wrong? I've just loved the process thus far and we're not even in the thick of it yet.

Actually, Snow White did not expect nothing in return. She literally says if she cleans for them "then maybe they'll let me stay".Sotiris wrote:Snow didn't love cleaning. Zegler cut her hair short and people online seem to think it's for her role as Snow White.
