I've done plenty of this, and I still very much disagree. Sure, there are lots of talented people out there, but that doesn't make Nick & Jessica any less talented. I think Jessica is up there with Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Dolly Parton, and Christina Aguilera as having one of the best/most powerful voices in pop music.
Prince Eric wrote:I think we need to get out of the attitue of "Oh, they can sing, that makes them an artist." Not really. There's so many factors that contribute to the title of "artist." As for being performers, there are other acts I would pay $50 dollars a concert ticket to see. Neither can hold a crowd or move them, I know from first hand.
I agree, there's certainly more to it than being just a singer- you've got to be an entertainer and performer as well. Jessica is all three of these in every sense. It's fine if her music or style isn't your thing, but to say that she can't move a crowd (from what I've seen and heard, that's subjective at best) isn't quite fair. Nick's a slightly different story. He has a great voice and is a great group performer. He's only recently broken out as a solo act, though, so I'm willing to give him time to come in to his own as a solo act struggling against his wife's success (though I always like to point out that Amy Grant's last album and his debut album were pitched to pop markets around the same time and her's killed his

).

Come on, you've gotta admit Clay has some talent.
PrinceEric wrote:Personally, I don't care for the original covers of Disney songs either. I mean, why not release the actual songs from the movie to radio? Sure, they're more Broadway than pop, but I think they capture the true essense of their representative movies. If Disney absolutely has to get acts to cover their songs, why not go totally out there? I'll pay $20 bucks just for a tripped out duet of Bjork and Radiohead's Thom Yorke. How about a dance techno beat from Moby? Coldplay, Starsailer, or maybe a rocked out Alanis Morissette cover anyone?
Well, as much as you and I may like it, the film versions of these songs are
not going to get any Top 40/Adult Contemporary/Hot AC airplay, and those are the markets Disney hopes to appeal to in terms of radio releases. So it's either make a pop version to promote a movie, or settle for no airplay at all.
Bjork, Radiohead, Moby... Disney?

I can't see that, but to each his own. Again, it goes back to the market Disney is looking to capture. Top40/AC/HAC are what gets the most attention and most directly reaches their film's target audience. Bjork, Radiohead, and Moby rarely- if ever- get any exposure on these markets. I can see them springing for Coldplay or Alanis, but then, they do have those markets under their belt.
