Reluctant Dragon?

Post by PMcOuntry »

I ordered this item, but has anyone received it. The small excerpt about the DVD doesn't tell you much. I wanted to know if the "moose" short/cartoon is included like it is on the video, I like that one almost as much as The Reluctant Dragon!

I will, since it seems no one else has bought it, lol. If it doesn't have the moose short on it, I guess when I break down and buy a VHS/DVD recorder combo I'll have to make one! I'm crossing my fingers that since it was on the VHS version it'll be on this DVD, we'll see!

I don't think it is because no one else bought one (I ordered it myself), it is just that the mailer containing this just came out this week. It may be at least two weeks before anyone can comment about the contents.

On a side note, wasn't the Reluctant Dragon contained on the Walt Disney Studios volume of the Disney Treasures?
It's more fun when we're number 1!

I just placed my order this morning for the Reluctant Dragon. I was going to wait until I heard some reviews but DMC sent me a letter today congratulating me on becoming a VIP member and sent along a "BOGO" coupon code.
So I got Reluctant Dragon and Tarzan II.

We shall see when it finally gets here.

Anyone got any kind of review of this DVD yet? I'm seriously considering it, but I'd like to hear *something* from *someone*.

Thanks.

I watched this last night. The DVD has only the theatrical feature on it, no extras. For reasons unclear to me, it starts with the "Wonderful World of Disney" tv opening, then the menu pops up fpr the film. The options are pretty basic - select scenes, select language or play movie.

The transfer looked pretty good to me, with a few small scratches in a spot or two but nothing objectionable. I can't recall anything edited or changed.

Hope that helps!

Yes it was.

Yeah I've got that, it also shows you some stuff behind the scenes of Disney movies before showing you that segment.

I have a fairly long review of the DVD on the DVD's Amazon.com page. :D The only thing is, I was wrong about all of the animation being windowboxed. Only The Reluctant Dragon short was windowboxed. The other animation is not.

It's definitely worth picking up. The $20 price tag might be a little steep for a barebones DVD with little restoration work done to it, but it's worth it. (Fortunately, I didn't pay for it. I got it through DMR.)

Doesn't one of the Treasures have this on the DVD? What is the difference in the DVD's?
Can someone tell me?

The Treasures has the movie plus a lot of bonus features. I don't have the DMC disc, but I'm assuming that there are no bonus features...even if there were bonus features on the DMC disc, there wouldn't be near as many as there are on the Treasures set.

So no point in getting the other disc, if I already have it, right?

I think the original poster remarked that he/she has this video on VHS. I had it too and remembered that it came with Morris the Midget Moose. I agree that I really enjoyed that short almost as much as The Reluctant Dragon.

For those who don't know, the VHS version of the Reluctant Dragon only included the actual Reluctant Dragon story, not the behind the scenes storyline that's featured in the real movie. Then it had the Morris short tacked onto the end.

I was a little dissapointed with the Disney Treasures version of this because there are no chapter stops in the whole feature, so if you only wanted to see the Animation of The Reluctant Dragon, you have to visually scan to it.

I'd like to know if the feature only DVD release of TRD has chapter breaks?

Also, if anyone is wanting the Morris the Midget Moose cartoon, you can find it on the Disney Rarities Treasures DVD.

By the way, with all the editing to be politically correct, i'm surprised they didn't change the title to "Morris the [little person] Moose"
