Ah yes, it is pretty good. I saw it a long time ago and always enjoyed it. I got the nice new 2 disc set and must say that it is very good. I love the new effects and the second disc has some great documentaries on it. Good set!

This movie is horid. I just saw the new version last night. I must say this movie can only be made by twenty-three year old film students who have watched too many French art house films. Their social commentary on Western consumer nations was unoriginal, nor was it particularly interesting. (The Jesus figure telling peole to "buy more." Nope, never seen that.) The acting is bad. No one has a sense of humor--ever. The standard Lucas dialogue is terrible. To be honest, I'm not even sure the entire film makes sense. It's meant to be realistic depiction of a totalitarian government in a consumer society in the future. But at best, it's just sci-fi projection of the social politics of the 1960s with some gaping plot holes.

The added effects are cool. I will say that.

For a much better film see either 2001 or A Clockwork Orange. The

Try watching it with the commentary and maybe you will understand it and enjoy a little bit more.

I'll give that a shot. But at best, all Lucas is going to do is allude to philosophical ideas he was trying to impute into the film, but was unsuccessful in fully doing so.

I'll listen to it though.

Some of the more recent disney commentaries are like that. "Well in this scene, here's what we were after" (implying they didn't quite catch it)
