Re: Snow White (Live-Action)
Yeah, from that character description it sounds like they’ll completely switch up the story and downgrade the Prince to some vain insignificant character who will probably not end up kissing Snow White but have this Jonathan end up being a love interest who saves the day. I suspect Snow White ending up in an X-men like spandex character and finishing off the witch in a kung fu inspired stand off on a mountain top surrounded by children instead of dwarves, in order to keep everything woke, current and clean…

Re: Snow White (Live-Action)
They’ll brand it with a Beauty and the Beast meets Aladdin flavor of course, with the handsome dimwitted Prince turning out to be the coward and the diamond in the rough to be the actual hero who saves the day. Looks can be deceiving, fame and fortune aren’t everything, true love can surprise you in a much different shape than you first expected… yada yada yada…Sotiris wrote:It's not going to be that ridiculous, but it's going to be close.
I've actually been looking forward to the remake so far, but not having a Prince or having one who isn't Snow White's love interest is kind of a deal-breaker. Why couldn't they have simply expanded the Prince's role like they did with Cinderella's? He could have easily been the one who found Snow White in the forest and helped her take down the Evil Queen. There was no need for this Flynn Rider knockoff. What's the point of this unnecessary departure from the source material? And what will happen to "Someday My Prince Will Come"?
I still have high hopes that they’ll at least stick closely to the original animated movies romantic gothic fairytale art direction, costumes and style… and give Snow White a modern variation on her sleek bob hairstyle instead of long flowing wavey hair…

Re: Snow White (Live-Action)
Lol this forum had the same concerns when the Tangled characters and plotline were announced, and that ended up being a lush, sweet and earnest fairy tale film. Maybe give this a chance until we learn more info? I'm sure it's still going to be a big, sweeping musical fairy tale adventure.

Yeah, thankfully Mulan 2020's failure might've taught them a lesson.Sotiris wrote:robster16 wrote:Yeah, from that character description it sounds like they’ll completely switch up the story and downgrade the Prince to some vain insignificant character who will probably not end up kissing Snow White but have this Jonathan end up being a love interest who saves the day. I'm a little disappointed with the change to the Prince, but I'm not really surprised. The Prince from Snow White is the only one of the Walt princes that I like. I always liked his design and he was more pure / sincere than Charming or Phillip who both smirk and/or roll their eyes at different points (and both of them try to avoid the responsibility their fathers want them to take on). The description of him having "swagger" makes it sound like he's more like Charming, Phillip, Naveen, and Flynn then, unfortunately; never really liked the vain, braggart princes. Naveen might be the exception because the movie acknowledges he's a douche at the beginning of the film, lol, with Tiana being repulsed by him at first and the butler hating him. It's weird, it sounds like the Prince in this version has the story *Snow White* was given in Mirror, Mirror, as far as becoming Robin Hood-esque. Well, and Snow in OUAT for that matter, who also was RH-esque.
At least he has to have better chemistry with Zegler than that guy she was with in WSS. He's cute. He reminds me of a mixture between David Gallagher and Sebastian Stan.

Disney...whatever. Just find a way to not ruin and not get rid of "Someday My Prince Will Come". That is the original's most iconic song for crying out loud.
I'm looking forward to the look of the film, too, but oh dear God please no historically inaccurate bob.robster16 wrote:I still have high hopes that they’ll at least stick closely to the original animated movies romantic gothic fairytale art direction, costumes and style… and give Snow White a modern variation on her sleek bob hairstyle instead of long flowing wavey hair…

Re: Snow White (Live-Action)
The movie contains dwarves, beautiful queens who turns into haggard witches, I think we can drop the historically correct aspects a little. I would just like them to stay somewhat close to Snow White's iconic design and not depart too much like they did with Cinderella for instance. If ANY of the Disney princesses looks deserve to be honoured it's the first one of them all... I'd say shoulder length maximum!Disney Duster wrote:Disney...whatever. The point of a fairy tale is magical things happening in historical times. Please give her a historically accurate hairstyle because that bob is not pretty! And if I'm ok with Disney letting them stray from her character enough to freaking go into battle of all things they can give her a better hairstyle.

I hope Snow White and the Dwarfs still have their joyous dance to A Silly Song. And I hope she keeps her ‘30s bob.

I agree with you. Of course, I've never really liked the way Snow White's look, but that's just me. *shrug*Disney Duster wrote:The point of a fairy tale is magical things happening in historical times. I'm glad someone agrees! Yeah, I have never been a fan of Snow White's look.

Re: Snow White (Live-Action)
Really? I love it. I don't care if it's historically accurate. It's a hairstyle popular in the '30s, and I think it suits her.
Personally, I never cared if a costume was historically accurate or not in a movie.

Exactly! And should they be authentic to the hygiene of the times?
It gets to be ridiculous.

Re: Snow White (Live-Action)
I wish people had this kind of energy about Ariel's '80s 'do that is lost. In comparison, I've never had that attachment to Snow White's design, which I honestly find kind of ugly. Might've felt differently if I grew up in the mid-1900s. I don't even 100% like the Queen's design; I think she should've been more beautiful than she was.

Re: Snow White (Live-Action)
Yes, I'm.sorry but ever since I was a kid I didn't like her short black hair and very yellow dress. I don't always need historical accuracy but I always need something that looks good and she does 't look good to me. Also, now that I am older and can recognize what time period films are set in, and believe me Snow White is set in a fantasy version of Renaissance Germany, I do require certain historical accuracy to those set times.Sicoe Vlad wrote:Really? I think you saying that shows being historically accurate to the hygiene is ridiculous but a degree of historical accuracy in how things look is not ridiculous.carolinakid wrote:Exactly! And should they be authentic to the hygiene of the times?

Re: Snow White (Live-Action)
I respect your opinion, Duster. I didn't like her hairstyle when I was younger, but now, I love it.
As for historical accuracy, for me, it's not important. If I recall correctly, the Beauty and the Beast remake had everything as historically accurate as possible. And it ruined the fantasy aspect of it. Belle's dress was historically accurate, and it didn't have that fairy tale quality, as in the animation. The fact that they did mention it took place in France, also took away from the fantasy aspect, because in fairy tales, they usually say "in a far away land". And the enchanted objects were nowhere near as fun as in the animation, because they wanted them to look as real as possible.
That's why I think that historical accuracy has no place in a fantasy world.
