The Walt Disney Film Archives: The Animated Movies 1921-1968

Post by Farerb »

I just received the book today and wow it's enormous! I thought it would be the same size as the normal "Art of" books. No wonder it was expensive. Honestly I don't know how I will be able to read it, I appreciate the large artwork, but for reading purposes maybe the smaller edition is preferable. Does anyone else have the book?

I have the smaller, cheaper version. It has the same information, which boggles my mind since it's so much cheaper.

Interesting that it has the same information since it seems it's less than half the size of the large edition.

I wasn't sure when I bought if it is condensed in content, but an Amazon review says that it's the same info. (The user says: "This is a "bookshelf" version of the very large $200 "coffee table" version; I have both, and my comments apply to both. All of the text and all of the pictures (albeit smaller in this volume) are included in both versions.")

I have it- received the original edition as a gift from my then-girlfriend- and I love it. There's gorgeous artwork, well-written and detailed essays about the films, and most excitedly features excerpts from story meetings Walt had with his crew.

I do wish that they'd make at least one more book, covering the post-Walt films up to possibly the Renaissance. I see that they've made two Star Wars books of the same variety, one for the original trilogy and one for the prequels, so I'm sure they could if they want to.

I mean, the current book is labeled "Volume 1," so surely at some point a new post-1967 book will come! If they were waiting to see how this book would sell before doing research, writing/collecting for the new volume, then it's probably a few years away, I'd guess.

Hello. Do you recommend this book? It seemed too big for my taste and I'm not sure if the information in it is worth the price so I'd love to hear your personal opinion! :)

Hello. :) Pray they make a Volume 2 on the 90s since that is the best Disney era of all time. The movies from 1989-1996 were the second Golden Age of Disney and almost nothing since then has topped it although Tangled and Frozen came closest.
