Oh. But since that love triangle was half of the plot I think it was integral.

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)
Do you think they will make a decent Art book of The original film when this comes out?

Okay. We can agree to disagree, then. But I`ve ranted about this many times before, so I won`t repeat myself.Disney Duster wrote:Oh. But since that love triangle was half of the plot I think it was integral.
I truly hope so. I`m honestly baffled that Disney hasn`t made a true, elaborate Art/Making off-book of Mermaid yet.Farerb wrote:Do you think they will make a decent Art book of The original film when this comes out?

Hello. Does it matter though cuz half of the book will be devoted to this revisionist history? That makes me sadFarerb wrote:Do you think they will make a decent Art book of The original film when this comes out?

Hello! You have wonderful taste!Redadoodles wrote:Farerb wrote: I hope they don't consider The Princess and the Frog. I don't want creepy unappealing CGI frogs, or realistic CGI of Louis and Ray... Ron Clements and John Musker were right when they said that they were always looking for ideas for movies that would take advantage of animation as a medium and that none of their films would work as live actions (unlike Pocahontas or Hunchback). It's evident in Aladdin where the Genie is toned down and looks awful in blue CGI.
I wouldn't mind a live action adaptation of Rapunzel, maybe they can incorporate more music and tone down the DreamWorks-ness of Flynn and his humor.
I'd really prefer if Disney made a proper adaptation of The Snow Queen rather than Frozen, even if it's live action, but I doubt that would ever happen. I lament that Walt never got to make his version of The Snow Queen, we could have gotten something more sophisticated and true to the original tale with a villain that is not unlike Maleficent:
Are you familiar with the Russian animated version from 1957 ? It's quite faithful to the text by Andersen. In my opinion, it's even better as it gets rid of the unnecessary subplots.

At first I was like, "Oh, no, will this push the release date back and we have to wait even longer?!", but it's thankfully just audio recording.

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)
Super exciting. The release date is so far away though.

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)
Watched The Bitch That Stole Christmas TV movie last night and thought how much fun it would've been if RuPaul had played Ursula. I do think Melissa McCarthy has the ability to do Ursula if she plays it right (a mixture of her characters in Identity Thief and Can You Ever Forgive Me? with a darker edge is what I'm thinking of). But I saw a film earlier this year that she was in with Tiffany Haddish that was truly terrible, and I'm really hoping she doesn't try to play Ursula as a mob boss or something like that. The Italian accent she tried to work for that movie was a fail.

I love Melissa so I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt.
I think I asked this before, but how did you get the glowing bell jar to be transparent on the Beast in your siggy Divinity?!

I used some kind of layer effect. Probably luminosity.

Javier Bardem confirms he's singing in the film (which marks the first time him doing so professionally). Even though he didn't specify the type of song, from the way he talked about it, it seems like it's a solo.

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)
Interesting. I imagine it will be a short song, perhaps placed at the "What have I done?" scene. But it would be interesting for Triton to sing a short, mournful / bittersweet song at the ending as he turns Ariel human that leads into the boat scene portion of "Happy Ending."

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)
I wonder if we'll get a teaser poster for this soon, like we did for BATB and the Cinderella live actions ? They just sort of popped up at my local cinema out of nowhere, long before the teaser trailer came out it felt like ?
Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)
I'm thinking of how they did with Aladdin, because it was released during the same period as this one will be released. The teaser trailer and poster came out in October 2018. Then, in December 2018, Entertainment Weekly released some movie stills, along with a behind the scenes video. In February 2019, another trailer came, and in March 2019, the final trailer. The soundtrack came a few days before the movie opened in theaters.
I guess they will do the same with The Little Mermaid.

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)
Bardem talks about the film. I chuckled when he compared the remake to Shakespeare.
Source: https://www.gq.com/story/gq-hype-javier-bardemFor the live-action version of The Little Mermaid, he texted Rob Marshall—“something that I’m shy to do”—to ask if the director would be willing to take on a King Triton with an accent. Marshall wrote back enthusiastically. Bardem was having breakfast with his family at the time. “I started like, ‘Wow, guys. I may do The Little Mermaid.’ And my daughter said, ‘But you can't play Ariel!’ I said, ‘No, no, no. I'm not playing Ariel. I'm playing King Triton.’ And they were so excited,” he shares gleefully.
Bardem swiftly turns serious, delving into a poetic close read of his role in a film that also features a flamboyant musical crab. “It's a father taken by the deep love and ownership of his younger daughter, and fighting with the fact that she's going to leave the nest, and being unable to cope with that as a man and as a protector, and not being able to give her the room that she deserves, the place that she holds as a woman, as a girl, as a grown-up. So,” he says, taking a breath, “it's very Shakespearean.”

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)
Well, there is a Shakespearean element to the original story, which is probably what he meant, but it's a shame he probably won't get to see much of it working on this remake.
There's a joke somewhere in there with him saying he couldn't play Ariel... It reminds me of one told at one of the Comedy Central Roasts where one of the speakers congratulated one of the other attendees (a middle-aged NFL player, I believe?) on being cast as Ariel from TLM.
I mean, why couldn't they age-bend, genderbend?
Now I can't shake the image of a TLM with The Rock playing Ariel.

Oh cool! What is that Shakespearean element DD?
I heard Javier sing in Being the Ricardos, and it was actually good! So, there's hope for his song in this film!
