Obviously it's not something in canon, so it makes me laugh they said it matter of fact like that.

That was fast. But I suppose it had to be that way with this film, since it'll probably need more 3D heavy-lifting than most of the other re-makes (other than TLK which probably barely featured live-action filming at all).

Halle Bailey has posted an image of her as Ariel on Twitter and has confirmed filming has wrapped.

Close-up. Is this how she'll look in the final film? Is she wearing just a bra or a top that covers her midriff? It's hard to tell. Either way, it doesn't look very good.

Halle Bailey wrote:...and just like that, that’s a wrap! After auditioning for this film when I was 18 just about to turn 19, to now finishing filming through a pandemic when I turned 21...We have finally made it. I feel so grateful to have experienced this film in all of its glory. It has been the toughest experience being away from everything and everyone I've ever known, to feeling self doubt/loneliness, but also feeling such freedom and perseverance as I've reached the end. This experience has made me so much stronger than I ever thought I could be. I'm so grateful to have such lovely and talented people in the cast like Jonah Hauer-King that will be my friend for infinite lifetimes, Jacob Tremblay who I'm so proud of and legends like Javier Bardem, Melissa McCarthy, Awkwafina, Daveed Diggs who are masters of their craft but are so welcoming and open to little old me as well as to the rest of the beautiful cast and crew. I cannot wait for time to speed up so you all can watch this film because it was made with so much love (plus blood sweat and tears.) Thank you Sardinia for a wonderful ending!!!

Hmm, just seems like an off-the-set beach pic to me...

The mermaid with blue hair we saw some weeks ago also had a similar top. I think that can't be the final look; they'll probably add the real top in post-production. Same with the tail. I wonder why they need CGI for the top, though. Will mermaids have scales in that part of their bodies too instead of seashells or clothes?

^Nice catch! Them going with a more scale-y look for the mermaids would certainly explain why both Ariel and this random mermaid are wearing the same tops. It's an odd choice, but I think I'd prefer that over those ugly things. I have to say, the costuming for this film has been surprisingly underwhelming.

^Well, I don't think it's a still from the film, but I believe she's in costume there. We know from the leaked set photos that that's the hairstyle she'll have in the movie; the tail seems to be the same she was wearing in this rehearsal; and as I said, the top is similar to the one that other mermaid was wearing while filming. It's true, though, that that's probably not her final look and some elements will be added or enhanced in post-production.

By the way, I forgot to post this video where they seem to be filming the carriage ride scene and this one of the new scene where Ariel hides on a wagon.

I can barely see a costume in any of the leaked photos so nothing to really comment on. And on top of that we also don’t know if any aspect of the outfit will be post production CGI.

^Don't you think the tail at least will be CGI? Anyway, I agree there's not much to comment on yet.

Well, I hope they don't make the scales go up that far. That said, those kinds of gaudy, cumbersome outfits most fanart come up with to put her in would be just as ugly.

I made some fan art back in 2019 that had the option of scales high up on her body. I sort of liked the look myself. It could definitely work you ask me...

That's a nice design, robster16. If they did something similar to that I could see it working too.

That actually works and looks pretty! I'd prefer the seashell bra myself, though.

Didn't they mention that her look would be more conservative? It's quite possible that the top part will be handled in CGI just like the mermaids from Pirates 5.

Yes, it's what I'm expecting. The seashells brasier will be replaced by scales here later on.
