There were queens before Elsa and Anna...

So, since Frozen/2 I´ve heard someone from the media commenting how Disney moved from Princesses to Queens) and just with the first one how Elsa was the first Disney Queen -at least young/popular) but I was just hinking about it and that´s not true.

For instance...

-Snow White: After the death of the Evil Queen she was automatically the new Queen.

-Belle : Technically both Beast and Belle were King and Queen since Beast´s parents weren´t around.

- Kida : With her mother taken away and her father dead she became a Queen.

Heck, I can even argue the case of Vanellope. The game establishes she´s a princess. Ok? So were are her parents? Because King Candy obviusly wasn´t her father neither was the character meant to be in the game. So she should be Queen by default.

If we go to animals, Sarabi was Queen. And, if the story was about Simba becoming a King and that meant for Sarabi to step down then Nala became Queen. In both cases, there you have it.

I've always wondered, wouldn't Eric become a King at some point since he doesn't have parents?

As far as Frozen, I think the difference is that Elsa is queen during the course of the movie than merely post-ending.

For Vanellop she's a video game character - her data/code set her as Princess Vanellope. She doesn't have parents or need to have had them to exist because she's not a biological person. Just like the toys in Toy Story don't have/need parents to exist. Think of her as being like Princess Peach - Peach doesn't have parents but isn't upgraded to Queen.

Snow White is underage and would stay a Princess (same with any of the Princess line and their Princes) until the current King/Queen retire, or until they reach legal age to take the throne like Elsa in the first film. She remained a Princess until her coronation. Also, for Snow White she left for her Prince's kingdom from the look of it.

All the official Disney Princesses are under age, so they are Princesses.

You Americans may have rules about age requirements to be a Leader but European monarchs did not. Mary Queen of Scots was a queen at 6 days of birth.

You can be a queen before your first birthday or a princess in your 80th year. age has nothing to do with it.

Mary was only a Queen at age six because her father died. Scotland was ruled, however, by regents until....dun dun duuuun she became an adult and had her coronation.

It doesn't matter how many regents exist. Mary was still queen and not a princess.

It's like how Frozen got criticism because people said it made no sense that Elsa wasn't crowned until 3 years after her parents were dead.

There have been so many cases of child rulers who are officially crowned king or queen but the rule power is with regents, relatives, or advisors. Like Henry VIII's son Edward. Or how Lady Jane Grey's parents planned to rule through her after crowning her queen when Edward died.

Several points:

-The age argument has already been discussed. And even having that one in mind it should apply to Elsa and Anna as well. At least Anna.

-As far as in terms of screen time, Anna also became Queen just minutes before the ending of Frozen 2.

-The case for Vanellope, Princess Peach does have parents. They don´t usually show them but they exist. Even as far as Super Mario Bros. 3.
