Re: Disney Princesses Got a Makeover
Poor Snow White, missing from the doll collection. I know that there are so many official princesses now that they all can't be included in everything, but when the OG princesses get left out, it hurts my heart a little.

This excites me probably more than it should! I can't wait to see the Princess stickers on bananas and check out those recipes (Not kidding!). Two of my favorites, Princesses and food.

oh those are nice too! Well made and lot of nostalgia if you grew up with the Renaissance films. Just be careful with the play-line ones made after around 2005, they start to go cheap and at one point become nearly identical in quality to what Hasbro puts out now.UmbrellaFish wrote:So far, I’ve been focusing on Collector’s Disney dolls from the late 90’s from Mattel. Yes, they are very nice! As I’m just starting to collect, I feel like I won’t venture very far beyond the late 90’s because there seems to be a precipitous drop in quality shortly after. I got the standard 1997 Ariel doll recently and I am in love with it! I think it’s such a great representation of Ariel and it’s one of the few dolls that I am 100% sure I played with as a child— I remember visiting my cousin and she had this Ariel doll and an Eric. I would love to buy every single piece that came out of that 1997 Little Mermaid line from Mattel.unprincess wrote:oh those are nice too! Re: Disney Princesses Got a Makeover
I was about to ask if Ariel and Sebastian were wearing little chef hats and aprons with spatula, but then I thought maybe it autocorrected “Barbie” to “barbecue”? Or is there really a set of “Summer Grilling” TLM dolls out there? It would be nice— finally, Sebastian and Chef Louis would have something in common!Disney Duster wrote:I recieved at least two Ariel dolls in my lifetime and loved them. God knows I love the ones from the 90's with Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty being my favorites.unprincess wrote:UmbrellaFish wrote:So far, I’ve been focusing on Collector’s Disney dolls from the late 90’s from Mattel. the ones that were made for the re-release of the film in theaters that year? Yep, I love those and have a few of them.UmbrellaFish wrote:Yes, they are very nice! so about the Ultimate Princess Celebration, does anyone know if Tales of Courage and Kindness Story Collection will only be available as a download? I LOVE the art in the "book" and would love to own it as a physical copy!

Re: Disney Princesses Got a Makeover
I didn't mean to write "Barbie". There really is a barbeque The Little Mermaid set out there, I think even with chef hats and spatulas, Brelly! Then again, I was very young when I saw it, so maybe it is just in my imagination?

Yes! Those ones! I posted a few pictures of the ones I just bought in the “Post a picture of your Disney collection” thread.unprincess wrote:the ones that were made for the re-release of the film in theaters that year? Yep, I love those and have a few of them.
I love it, that’s awesome! Like I said before, finally Sebastian and Chef Louis have something in common— although I’m mildly concerned for what exactly they’re grilling up. I wonder who made it: Tyco, Mattel, or some other company?Disney Duster wrote:I didn't mean to write "Barbie". Re: Disney Princesses Got a Makeover
I'll try to watch to see if any of the covers sound good. I only know Julia Lester of those names. Disney's tweens are 90% miss, 10% hit.
I do wish DisneyMania or We Loves Disney would continue. I'd like to hear more covers of "Almost There," the Frozen songs, etc. I'm grateful American Idol is on ABC now, and they cover Disney songs every year because of it, occasionally by people with great voices. Grace Kinstler's "Into the Unknown," Jonny West's "Almost There," Catie Turner's "Once Upon a Dream," Jurnee's "How Far I'll Go," etc.

Listening to most often lately:
Taylor Swift ~ ~ "The Fate of Ophelia"
Taylor Swift ~ "Eldest Daughter"
Taylor Swift ~ "CANCELLED!"
Re: Disney Princesses Got a Makeover
I don't know I feel about the "reimagined performances of the iconic songs" part, but I'll watch it nonetheless.

It's interesting that even though Cinderella (2015) was only a mild hit, so many Cinderella and even Disney Princess stuff is using the "courage and kindness" thing from that movie. Cool!

Re: Disney Princesses Got a Makeover
That's because Disney has done a lot to improve the franchise the past quarter of a century, with characters like Belle, Mulan, Merida, Elsa, Anna, Moana, etc. The stigma around the franchise won't ever go away though, much like Barbie and Real Housewives will always be considered misogynist trash. It's hard to shake perceptions so ingrained in culture. It may take another 15-20 years.

Re: Disney Princesses Got a Makeover
I guess that explains why we rarely see merch of Rapunzel as a brunette.

Source: https://time.com/6086875/disney-princess-culture-study/In the early study, when we asked the kids who their favorite princess was and why, “I like Rapunzel because she’s blonde” was our No. 1 answer, which was really disturbing to me.
