Re: The Wizard of Oz Remake
I am not really sure if this will be a “remake” or a new “adaptation.” I guess for me the dividing line would be the inclusion of the songs from the 1939 movie— if this new movie keeps the musical numbers, it’s a remake and if it doesn’t, it’s a new adaptation. A new adaptation I can live with. A remake is probably a stupid idea. Aside from perhaps Snow White, I can’t think of an earlier film than Wizard of Oz which has been so beloved by so many audiences for so long. Would strike me as wholly unnecessary to remake it.

I'm an Oz fan, so I always welcome new versions. There really hasn't been a remake of the 1939 film; usually movies and shows do their own take. With so many Oz books, there are so many stories to tell...it'd be nice if more of those stories were told in film.

Watchmen was such a bizarre series, from what little I've seen of it... I can definitely see the person behind that series doing a great new version of Oz or a re-make--whichever this will be. As is the case with the Disney films (and a lot of classic films really, like Carrie or Poltergeist), a remake will never top the original, but it's still worth seeing with new actors and technology as a passing moment.
