Norways top 10 selling DVD's

Post by karlsen »

I just saw a list of the 10 most selling movies in Norway this year, and it was fun to see what company had 5 of the top 10 :)

1 Lord of The Rings: Return of the King - 207.599
2 Finding Nemo - 160 424
3 Pirates Of The Caribbean - 126.257
4 Lion King - 104.381
5 Brother Bear - 99.324
6 Kap. Sabeltann - 87.713 (Norwegian animation movie)
7 The last Samurai - 75.662
8 Kvinnen i Mitt Liv - 75.400 (Norwegian movie)
9 Master and Commander - 72.143
10 Lion King 1 1/2 - 72.015

There are 4.5 million people in Norway so that means that about 5% of the population now owns a copy of "Lord if The Rings: Return of the King" and that can't be bad :)

If I am not mistaking this makes Lion King the most selling movie in Norwegian history with more then 470.000 copys sold and that must be impressing since it is over 10% of the population.

God dag! Jeg heter Starion.

470,000 is a lot of DVDs! A lot of Norwegians bought Finding Nemo too. Thanks for sharing the list.

Takk.

My oppologies for my poor Norsk. I get Svenska and Norsk confused.

Yes, but surely everyone with a DVD player owns The Matrix? I thought it was a global law or something - Everybody must own The Matrix on DVD! And it must be used to show Audio/Video reference levels and show off the "White Rabbit" feature. On pain of death! :D

Actually Karlsen, I'm a bit surprised how few people there are in Norway. I thought it was double that!
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

Brother Bear continues the trend. It's huge on dvd internationally too. Thanks for that list, very interesting!

But shouldn't the Danish be even more into the LOTR films than Norwegians? They must all love Viggo Mortensen. Could anyone produce similar statistics for Denmark?

Well I don't have any figures to back it up but the newspapers wrote that Denmark was the country in the world that spend most money on Lord of the Rings movies and books (of course relative to the population). It didn't say if Viggo had anything to do with it :-)
