Re: Pixar's Luca
This sounds like the gayest Pixar movie ever.
And no, you don’t need gay characters or a gay story for something to be “gay.”

Re: Pixar's Luca

the characters look like they're made of clay...I dont know how I feel about that.

Re: Pixar's Luca
So far I'm pleased with what I see, I don't mind the cartoony look of the characters. The synopsis sounds very indie, like it is a film about someone's life, which sounds very mature, very interesting.
It's funny how this time Pixar goes with the painterly look with Luca while Disney goes with the photo realistic look with Raya. Out of the two I'm more excited about Luca.

Re: Pixar's Luca
I hope Sophia Loren does a voice in it.
Re: Pixar's Luca
That's true, I also like that. It's refreshing for Pixar. Regarding the look of the characters, the only thing I really dislike is the bean mouths, which is something I've never found appealing. But it's mainly because it seems Pixar has now adopted that style for all their films. If it was only for this movie, I wouldn't mind it so much. Anyway, I've complained about it enough and the rest looks really good to me, so I won't mention it again.farerb wrote:The synopsis sounds very indie, like it is a film about someone's life, which sounds very mature, very interesting.
By the way, the director has shared on Twitter which specific towns served as inspiration for the film's setting:

Re: Pixar's Luca
Well, now, the story sounds very different from what I had previously thought it was... I thought Luca wasn't a sea monster to begin with (or at least he didn't know he was one until later, sort of a Song of the Sea situation where he had to learn what he was). I thought Alberto was the one that kind of made him realize what he was and then they would spend time underwater and the beach playing around during the summer or something?

Listening to most often lately:
Taylor Swift ~ ~ "The Fate of Ophelia"
Taylor Swift ~ "Eldest Daughter"
Taylor Swift ~ "CANCELLED!"
Re: Pixar's Luca
I had also imagined it differently. I thought they both knew they were sea monsters and they would be exploring the human world on their own and would become friends on land not knowing that the other was a sea monster "in disguise" at first. But when it was revealed Luca would be shy and Alberto the opposite, then I realized Luca most likely wouldn't do that alone and that they probably already knew each other and go to the human world together, as it seems it's that article is confirming.

Re: Pixar's Luca
What do you think the central conflict will be? Maybe one of them wants to return to their underwater home and the other one doesn’t? I wonder what role the girl will play— could she just be a love interest or something more?

The design is interesting. Reminds me about stop motion, possibly with clay. The hair of one of the guys reminds me about the hair of the youngest brother in Onward.
Re: Pixar's Luca
I've been wondering what the central conflict could be too. What you said is a possibility, but I think there'll be some opponents too. Someone from the village or sea monsters from their world who are looking for them, for example. The girl could just be a friend, but it's possible one of them (or both) will be interested in her romantically. In that concept art we saw of her, she didn't look like the typical love interest of the protagonist, though, but we'll see.UmbrellaFish wrote:What do you think the central conflict will be? It also reminds me of stop motion. And you're right, Ian also has curly hair. By the way, I'm glad to see you commenting again.Rumpelstiltskin wrote:The design is interesting. Re: Pixar's Luca
Thanks I've been away for a while for a couple of reasons. Yeah, the style seems to be another new approach for Pixar. I like the visual effect it has on the buildings.
Re: Pixar's Luca
Yes, the buildings look really nice. This film has a beautiful setting and art direction.

Re: Pixar's Luca
My favorite kind of animation news is always the announcement of a voice cast fir an upcoming animated movie !!
So i am really happy will get one soon for Luca !
I still don't like the designs , But i will not start throwing BS terms like CalArts style around It's incorrect, demeaning and john kricfalusi was a horrible a-hole

Re: Pixar's Luca
I think another thing people need to be aware of is that the term "CalArts Style" was initially created to demean animated movies in the '90s, especially Disney and "The Iron Giant", not 2010s television animation. For some reason, the Internet then evolved the term to hate on "Steven Universe" and "She-Ra and the Princesses of Power." So it's a term that's not even consistent in what it's criticising.DisneyFan97 wrote:I still don't like the designs , But i will not start throwing BS terms like CalArts style around It's incorrect, demeaning and john kricfalusi was a horrible a-hole

According to journalist Drew Taylor, who works for Collider, the teaser trailer will be released this week!
