Re: Don Bluth's Anastasia on Broadway

Sade becoming a part of the DP line-up was mere speculation from Skyler Shuler. Nothing has been confirmed either way. The movie has not even been greenlit yet. Disney simply bought a pitch and has yet to move forward with the project. It may never get made. Do you know how many pitches and spec scripts has Disney bought over the years that never came to fruition?

I was going by this post. I have no idea who Skyler Shuler is, but if people were asking him, I assumed he worked for Disney since he seemed confident with his answer about Disney's future plans. Anyway, if the Sade film ever does see the light of day, I can see Disney shoehorning her into the lineup.

Q: Do you know of any plans for Nutcracker's Clara in the princess lineup? Is it possible/unlikely for live-action characters like her or Sade?

Skyler Shuler: No plans for Clara; Sade very possible.

He's the guy who runs The DisInsider. Sometimes he has credible info but other times he's way off. He's been proven wrong on plenty of occasions before. There's no way he could have known this particular piece of information so it's clearly just speculation on his part.

Oh ok. I remember reading that interview in more places than just one, so I assumed this information must be verified and that he actually worked for Disney.

To be honest, I keep wondering who this guy is. Does he just hang out at the Disney studio commissary ease-dropping on conversations? Who are these loose-lipped Disney employees who keep sharing information with him? I would think Disney had extremely strong NDAs and if I was an employee, I would be extra careful to not let sensitive information be known to outside parties, lest I get on Mickey's bad side.

JeanGreyForever wrote:As for Anastasia, that one actually is comparable to Disney's best, and is frequently associated with Disney too, probably the most mistaken animated feature for Disney. It's proved to have an enduring legacy that rivals some of Disney's classics which is a pretty big deal considering that it doesn't have Disney churning out the constant promotion that all the Disney classics get. I read online somewhere that somebody asked somebody working for Disney about any future plans for Anastasia and the DP line but apparently there were no plans. However, I don't put too much weight into what some anonymous users claim to know, especially since there were similar reports about Elsa and Anna joining the franchise and that never materialized.
Disney should have Anastasia inducted into Disney Princesses and Thumbelina into Disney Fairies, if that line even exists now. :tink:

Lol, I forgot about the Disney Fairies line. I'm surprised Disney still keeps Pixie Hollow as a meet-and-greet location in their parks because it's so outdated now. Thumbelina would have suited that well, although she clearly has more in common with the princesses. Considering that Tinker Bell was once an official DP, I don't think it would be that difficult for Thumbelina to fit in the DP franchise.

It's doesn't. The only thing that's left from the franchise is the spin-off chapter book series The Never Girls which is miraculously still going strong. Other than that there's nothing else. No new merch of any kind. No dolls, storybooks, magazines, comics, calendars etc. Nothing.

I just listened to the OBC recording for this musical! This was one of those things I put on the backburner simply because Anastasia isn't my favorite film or anything, and while I do like the original film's music, I couldn't really see anyone topping Lansbury, Callaway, or Peters. So for those reasons it was easy to put off buying this for a while since it cost around $16. I was able to get it used for $8; it was like new. :D

And I have to say I wish I hadn't waited so long. The girl they got to play Anya is really incredible even if nobody can be Callaway~! I keep humming "In My Dreams"! What a great new song. I love how they re-used the melody of Rasputin's song and the placement of "Journey to the Past" was genius. It makes me wonder why it wasn't that way in the film? (I suppose because it would follow so close after "Learn to Do It" possibly?)

You encouraged me to listen to the recording on YouTube, DD! And wow, what a GREAT musical! Almost every song is beautiful. But what song had the old Rasputin song "In the Dark of the Night" melody? The "Finale" hit me in the feels because of what the characters were saying about Anastasia, and in real life we know she really did die.

It was "Stay, I Pray You." I enjoyed almost all the new songs, too.

Oh, thank you! I listened to the full "Dark of the Night" on YouTube and finally knew what you were talking about! I'm glad they used that, and that song turned out really good with the rest of the melody they made for the musical! Yes, pretty much all the new songs were good or great.
