Re: Pixar's Soul
Just saw the movie this morning: another impressive one! I really liked it. It is quite dark from the beginning (death has now a defined sound and visual representation in this world, which is enough to retain the attention despite being random) and might sometimes be depressing, which makes it an odd choice for a Christmas release imo, but I'd say this film works better in its "logic" and is, to me, a more defined and refined version of Inside Out (for which I had mixed feelings despite enjoying lots of its aspects.) It is also filled with excitement and themed around passions! So how not to love that?
I just loved the character of Moonwind: he is awesome and adorable, quite friendly and feels trustworthy!
My fave in Soul.
There are also some Fantasia aspects in several scenes, which is ALL good to me!
The visual creativity at some points is stunning and contrasts beautifully with the lousy real world in which Joey is living.
I do feel hyper enthusiastic with this new vawe of creativity at Pixar Animation. Onward and Soul are both great! I'm really inspired by and feel pretty confident that Luca will be awesome! And I'm more than curious about the Turning Red and Lightyear projects
The different to me is day and night compared to, back at the late 2000's, when the 4 Acamedy Award winner Pixar films of 2007-2010 were released. These movies were critically acclaimed and loved by mainstream audiences. And though I didn't felt as much for these as I do now for the new Pixar projects. (Though I'd still say I do appreciate Ratatouille and more particularly Wall-E! It's just I wasn't as transported as everyone else seemed to be.)

Re: Pixar's Soul
My thoughts about it are the same as what I think about all of Docter's films. It's technically good and competent, but I had no emotional investment while watching it. The same thing happened to me with Inside Out and Up, just feels like they are trying to hard and that it's too calculated to make me care.

I really enjoyed it! Joe as Mr. Mittens & 22 as Joe had really funny moments, & I loved their dynamic. I actually really related to Lost-Soul 22, not knowing what your purpose is and replaying those negative thoughts. I like the representation of that feeling.

Re: Pixar's Soul
Farerb, the movie didn't make me come close to crying like Coco and Onward did, but this film was still a masterpiece.
Amy, Mr. Mittens jump was my favorite part! Yes, those parts with him and the dynamic between him and 22 were really awesome!
This movie was a masterpiece! Moonwind was my favorite character because he is so nice. But I thought there was a plot hole: Why couldn't you taste and eat and feel as souls in the Hall of Everything? Wouldn't you need those things to get your spark from thoss things? I was also wondering, if a spark is not your purpose, what is it?
I'm so glad Pixar made an excellent picture about souls!

Re: Pixar's Soul
There is something wrong with all the foreign dubbning credits !!!
They only show ”addetional voices” and the dubb’s Director, notthe voices of the main characters
It’s the case for every foreign version of the movie !!
There must have been something wrong
I hope they fix the problem!!
I really want to know more of the voice cast !

Re: Pixar's Soul
DisneyFan97, are you asking about the Swedish version? The Swedish language Wikipedia has voice actors:
https://sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sj%C3%A4len_(film)
Duster, like yourself, I didn't cry-- I cry at everything usually, but the movie still touched me. I also noticed that the baking spark cannot be made by tasting so I figured just the act of baking alone would lead to that spark, but you're completely right that it isn't getting the full sense of sparking in regards to baking (you get what I'm trying to say!).
And I think that if a spark isn't your purpose, it's a thing that brings you great joy?

Pete: Yeah, the first version of this was all in the You Seminar. So Joe, in order to get back, had to show 22 his life through those moments in the Hall of You. It ended up being very kind of talk and point, it was like, “Here we are” and we’d stop and watch a scene and discuss it, and then we’d move over here, and we’d stop and watch a scene and discuss it – it was not interactive at all. It didn’t allow the character’s to really change what they were watching. So Mike had this idea to bring him down and switch them so that Joe could see his own life from a different point of view instead of going back into his own life, because that’s, of course, what he wants. So on one level, it seems like, “Oh, that works perfectly.” On another, it was like, “OK, I feel like I’ve seen this before,” and as we did more research, unfortunately there are so few films featuring Black Americans, Black actors, in animation that it was kind of a cliche. So it was definitely something we were aware of. Beyond a cliche, it’s kind of seen as like, “Oh, great. Finally we’re represented and then you take it away from us.” Our hope was, in this particular way, we still get to represent Joe’s life. He’s not in his body, but we’re still seeing his body walk through all his spaces and interact with all the people that he does in his normal life.So it was a bit of a tricky thing to pull off. Cross our fingers.
Kemp: In a traditional body swap, you would have had Joe and 22 get separated, and 22 would do this whole series of things where she’s on her own living Joe’s life better than he is. Meanwhile, Joe – it was purposeful for us to keep them together. Because even though he was in the cat, he had a certain amount of control over his own body.

Re: Pixar's Soul
Soul was absolutely fantastic!! Breathtaking, very fresh, surprising, and an extremely important reminder! Pete Doctor and Pixar never cease to amaze me.
I am so impressed that the commercials and trailers successfully hid the real plot. I did not expect any of the movie and I LOVED it. If you still don't know the cat, good. The cat is very important
If anything, I wish Tina Fey didn't voice 22. She did a great job, don't get me wrong. A white voice coming out of a black person in the majority of the movie seemed wrong to me.

I get what you mean Amy! I will also accept anyone else who wants to explain, too, guys!
Disneyprincess11, I am so glad I didn't know the story either, they really did a good job at hiding what would happen! And I loved everything with the cat!

At least in the Brazilian version, the main cast comes up on the actual credits of the movie, replacing the US cast. I don't know if that's the case for other dubs because I only got access to the Brazilian and US versions of the movie (probably because of localization)DisneyFan97 wrote:There is something wrong with all the foreign dubbning credits !!!

Re: Pixar's Soul
I didn’t want to watch Soul on Friday because I was afraid it would make me cry and I didn’t want to cry on Christmas!
So I watched it yesterday instead and it didn’t make me cry after all. I won’t say it didn’t touch me emotionally, because the character of the artist trying so hard to do what he believes he’s meant to in life did resonate with me. But I think I would have liked the movie better if the story had been entirely set in the “real” world (which was so beautifully designed and animated) and they had eliminated all the Great Before and body swapping stuff. Why couldn’t the movie have just been about a man choosing a life of gigs or helping his students? It kinda felt like that was the story they wanted to tell, but Pixar was afraid of selling a movie without some fantastical imaginary world attached.
I don’t mean to sound harsh about the movie because I did like it, but it didn’t quite reach the heights of Pixar’s best (for me that’s stuff like Coco, Ratatouille). Soul is middle tier Pixar for me.
I appreciated the casting of Graham Norton. I’ve never seen him act as a character besides himself before.

This was way better than Onward.
It was also much nicer looking both the world and character designs !
I beats out The Willoughbys as my favourite animated movie of the year

But, did you know the idea for a world of souls came before the idea for a story about a man who loves jazz, Brelly?

Re: Pixar's Soul
I really want them to update the cast list so they won't just have "additional voices" !
Please can more people leave feedback on Disney Plus and tell them to add a cast list for all foreign dubs, It not just Swedish credits it's most other languages
I really want this mistake to be fixed !!

Re: Pixar's Soul
I'm not surprised by this at all. The happy ending feels a bit detached from the rest of the film and from what seems to be the artistic vision of it (that last scene could totally be removed from the film, it wouldn't have altered much). But on the other hand, putting there a rejoyful and more hopeful ending was probably the most preferable option to avoid complains from the parents for killing the main character in a family picture (speak about one bold move for Disney!..) and also to avoid minority groups as well as general audiences to take it wrong if the first black Pixar main character dies which are both indeed pertinent and totally understandable reasons.D82 wrote:Here's How Pixar's "Soul" Was Originally Supposed To End

"We went back and forth on the ending up until the last screening," Murray explained. "For a long time, Joe did go to The Great Beyond." [...] "We have versions of the ending where Joe does not go back to his body, where he actually stays dead," he explained.
That's still a great idea for a potential sequel.D82 wrote:Pixar’s ‘Soul’ Alternate Endings and an Unused Post-Credits Scene

“There was one where Joe was touring with Dorothea and teaching students privately on the side, and 22 was a new student and he recognized that it was her.”
