I don't understand the Marvel deal... this isn't Disney but it's Marvel, like the Netflix shows. But Disney has Marvel TV shows, too...

It's not like the Netflix shows. Those were produced by Disney/Marvel who sold them to Netflix. Marvel is not involved with this show at all. Even though Marvel published and distributed the comic book title, the creators retained the intellectual property rights. While usually Marvel retains IP rights to the comics they publish under work for hire, they sometimes cut deals with creators where they allow them to retain ownership of the material. Marvel even has an imprint, Icon Comics, dedicated to publishing creator-owned works.
