The newest SparkShort is called "Burrow" and it will premiere in front of Soul, making it the first short in the program to be attached to a Pixar feature. It looks cute!

I guess that confirms the Spark Shorts have replaced the traditional Pixar shorts and there won't be any more shorts specifically made to be released on the big screen, but the best SparkShorts will be selected to be attached to a feature film and be released in theaters while the rest will go directly to Disney Plus.

Here are also a still from Burrow and the official synopsis. The style is not very Pixar, but I like it and I love that it's 2D. The story sounds interesting too.

“In Disney and Pixar’s new short film Burrow, a young rabbit embarks on a journey to dig the burrow of her dreams, despite not having a clue what she’s doing. Rather than reveal to her neighbors her imperfections, she digs herself deeper and deeper into trouble. After hitting (bed)rock bottom, she learns there is no shame in asking for help.”

I think it's too soon to rule out regular Pixar shorts still being made. It would be a shame if they abandoned that tradition.

It's a refreshing change of pace for Pixar. The style seems inspired by European watercolor-illustrated storybooks. It's reminiscent of Ernest & Celestine and The Big Bad Fox & Other Tales. Though admittedly, it doesn't look as good as those.

I agree it would be a shame. I hope you're right and they haven't stopped making them.

It reminded me of Ernest & Celestine as well! By the way, I really liked those two movies you mentioned. Ernest & Celestine a bit more, but The Big Bad Fox & Other Tales was also hilarious and very imaginative. I highly recommend them to anyone who hasn't seen them.

Madeline Sharafian, the director of "Burrow", was a storyboard artist on "We Bare Bears" before she worked at Pixar. She also directed this short while at CalArts. So she definitely has a specialty for drawing cute animals. I really like her art style.

Even though the theatrical release was cancelled, thankfully, Burrow will still premiere the same day as Soul on Disney+.
Earlier this month, Disney announced that the next Pixar SparkShort called “Burrow” would be released in front of “Soul” when it arrived in theatres in November.

However, after news that “Soul” is coming to Disney+ on Christmas Day instead of going to cinemas, it’s now been confirmed on Instagram by Pixar SparkShorts producer “David Lally” that it will be arriving on Disney+ on the same day as “Soul”.

^ That makes me really happy! I probably have never been this excited for a Pixar short before. (Will Boundin' still be my favorite after I see Burrow?! It just looks so cute.)

Another still from Burrow can be found on Pixar's website:

And here's a drawing of several characters from the Spark Shorts (including the rabbit from Burrow) by Pixar artist Michael Daley:

The tweet is by David Lally, but the artwork is by Michael Daley.

Oh, you're right! Thanks for telling me. I'll correct that. I actually noticed he wasn't the author of the artwork, but then I copied the wrong name.

Oddly enough, Disney+ LA and Brazil are announcing Pixar Sparkshorts as a six short series. A Brazilian candy to whoever figures out the only short left out...

How strange! They were up when I posted them. They also deleted the trailers from their Youtube channels.

I had compiled some users questioning Disney, but I ended up finding a mirror:

Maybe they realized they made a mistake for not including Out and they'll re-release a trailer that includes it later? Or am I just being naive? Latin American Netflix has a lot of gay-themed content, so that shouldn't be a problem right? I know it's different with a family-friendly brand like Disney, but would it really be an issue if Disney+ carried it?

^Thanks for sharing! It was interesting getting to know the director a bit and learning about the making of the short. I'm glad the success of Kitbull made it easier for other filmmakers in the studio to make 2D shorts.

By the way, I saw on the Pixar Post forum that a possible new Spark Short could be titled Twenty Something:
The MPA announced on their newest bulletin an animated Disney short (Pixar SparkShort probably?) titled Twenty Something; it's rated PG "for some suggestive material"
