Doubt about "Pocahontas - Special Edition" DVD...

Post by marcosfts »

My friends,

I have a doubt about the "Pocahontas - Special Edition" DVD. It will be released in Australia in November and on the cover is writed that it includes an all new song.

I heard that this "new" song is "If I Never Knew You" and that it is now integrated into the movie.

My question is: is this song integrated in the movie just like the song "Human Again" was integrated into "Beauty and the Beast", or "If I Never Knew You" will be like a bonus?

I would love to see it in the movie...

Marcos :)

Hopefully it will be similar to The Lion King so you get a choice of having it included it in the movie or not...

When they showed the song on Wonderful World of Disney, it looked like quite a bit of it was already animated (some color, some still pencil, and some storyboard). I guess there's a chance that Disney cleaned it up and finished it for the DVD. I certainly hope they did, because it's a great song and I feel the movie loses some of its emotional impact without the scene.

And might I add that I'm extremely jealous that you'll be getting it in November? ;)

It's been stated a few places, most notably in a longer running time when the film passed in the UK.

The special edition of "Pocahontas" (with "If I Never Knew You" integrated in it) is a reality and it is only awaiting release. According to Jim Hill, the movie was supposed to follow the line of Imax re-releases (after "Aladdin" and "The Little Mermaid") but, as with those movies, it got cancelled.

So let's wait for the DVD, then! :)

Just a quick side note-

Zellers has Lilo and Stitch and Pocahontas "on sale" for "only" $28. Perhaps they're trying to get rid of them before they get the SE?

Thank you guys for all the informations.

Pocahontas is one of my favourites Disney classics and I can't wait to see "If I Never Knew You" making part of it, as originally planned.

I don't know if I'm asking too much but, in what part of the movie it will be integrated? When the indians catch John Smith and Pocahontas go to visit him? :?

Yes, it's when John is captured and taken to the tent. The part is included as a bonus feature on the region 2 DVD. I love it and can't wait for the special edition!

I was at my local Wal-Mart last night and right when I walked in, there was a Disney display case with select movies for only $15. The two movies the case advertised the most was "Pocahontas" and "Lilo & Stitch." I think Disney is trying to make a few extra bucks on this release before they start to heavily promote the Masterpiece Collection versions. Other movies in the case for the discounted price where "Stitch! The Movie" and "Atlantis: Milo's Return." I can't remember, but I think "The Fox and the Hound" was there too, but I could be wrong.

If i never knew you scene on Laserdisc release

Post by Peter Pan »

The partially completed scene was included on the laserdisc release which i have the boxset of. The laserdics package was labeled as having it exclusively since there was no other way at the time to see this cut scene. It was partially finished and had parts still in the pencil stage so its very possible to finish it and add it into the movie. There was commentary inlcuded as to why they cut the scene which i cant remember offhand.

Still im looking forward to the ME version.
I still think the DVD releases still dont come close to the content the laserdiscs had but i prefer the DVDs for their smaller size.

Great movie

I wonder if the added song will be by the original voice actors. On the soundtrack, the song is done by some stars, and the background instruments are very different from the rest of the songs on the movie. I hope that the song is done by the people from the film instead of the alternate stars and has more of a cohesive composition. I somehow missed it when it was shown on ABC.
I can't wait to see it in widescreen!

The ads for the trio of Special Editions (Mary Poppins, Lilo, and Pocahontas) on some DVDs, which are about a year old now always did make note that it was a "New song with Mel Gibson"!

And the unfinished version is with the original actors. I would believe that it was recorded with the rest of the voices but never used.

Yes, it was. Actually, the scene was deleted very late in the process, so the voice recordings of Mel Gibson and Judy Kuhn were ready, and so was (most of) the animation.
I have already seen the scene and I can asure it will be a great adition to the movie (I'm against changes, but this scene was supposed to be there right from the beginning. And as long as we have the original version...)

Joe,

As you already saw this scene, I have a question: are Pocahontas & John Smith singing together this song, just like Jon Secada & the other singer (I can't remember her name) sung in the love theme included in the soundtrack?

I really LOVE this song and I am SO excited to get the DVD!!!! I can't wait anymore!!!!
