How is JeanGreyForever a mean person? She´s just stating her opinion, though it is perhaps not a sanitized one. If you don´t like it, that´s fine, but it doesn´t make her a mean person.

Apparently, Will Smith was also offered the role of Captain Hook.

To be honest it's difficult to explain if you haven't seen the Star Wars films and don't know the characters and plotlines.

No offense, but you've already let me know this multiple times such as when you didn't like what I had to say about Enchanted 2. I'm sorry you feel that way though, but I can't change your perceptions about me at this point.

If he hadn’t just done Aladdin, I’d have LOVED to have seen that. I feel like that could’ve been a lot of fun to see him take on a villain like that and get a little creepy.

I’m disappointed in the choice of Law. I don’t think he’s menacing enough or really has the look for the role. Phoenix would’ve been fine, but I just feel like there are more creative choices out there. Jake Gyllenhaal would’ve been interesting to me. Daniel Dae Kim could’ve been an interesting choice too. Or Sterling K. Brown. I just want someone with some real gusto and who can be both charming and scary. And Law just never has the scare factor for me.

Well to be fair Captain Hook was hardly scary in the animated film. And that was a major fault imo especially since Hook's character had almost nothing in common with his literary counterpart who is the time-tested version of Hook.

That’s true, but I think there’s still a quality to him that is scary. You know he could hurt you if he wanted to. And he also is very easy to despise. I just don’t see Law bringing that to the role. But I could be surprised I’m sure.

I actually wouldn't say he's easy to despise because the entire reason that he wasn't killed off by the crocodile at the end of the film is because Disney and the animators felt audiences would grow to love Hook too much to want to see him dead. And that's an issue with a Disney villain because you're not supposed to love them to the point that you openly root for them. People may love Cruella, Maleficent, or Scar as characters but you know a movie isn't working if audiences are hoping they don't get their comeuppance at the end.

And considering he couldn't even best children and every few seconds he goes running around screaming for "Smee," it didn't even seem like his own pirates respected or feared him.

I'm glad he wasn't killed. Disney's Peter Pan is an adventure comedy and having a death in the end would be inappropriate to the tone of the film. The way they ended it was fine.

Well Hook in the book is supposed to be coldly handsome which Jude Law is.

It’s hard to Picture a Black hook, sorry If i sound racist , it wasn't my intention :(

I am fine with Jude Law, but i would still have prefred Joaquin Phoenix.

Adam Driver might have worked but i am not sure.

For me the Gold standard is till Dustin Hoffman’s hook :D

But i think Jude Law can be good.

I must say the to me Jude Law seems like Big Star than Driver mostly beacuse he has been around longer ?

What do you think of Antonio Banderas as Hook ?

I is Big right now too and he played a simliar role in the underated Dolitte from eariler this yxar :D

Now let’s see who will play Smee :)

Remember that it's tradition for Captain Hook and Mr. Darling to be played by the same actor, so they're essentially casting for two roles. Ever Anderson has already been cast as Wendy, so I imagine that also has an impact on who gets to play Hook.

It’s been confirmed this won’t be the case for this film unfortunately. I actually feel like Law would’ve made a lot more sense if he were playing Mr. Darling as well. But Skyler Shuler over at the DisInsider has stated for quite some time he won’t be.

Oh, for some reason I didn't think you had seen the last film. Yes, Adam Driver had a much smaller role and for a film that was marketed on his connection with Rey, they barely shared any screentime together and Adam's character doesn't have a single line after he is redeemed (unless you count "ow"). Most of his scenes from the novelization and graphic novel were deleted including the origin of his connection with Rey and his encounter with Chewbacca. Perhaps even a scene where Lando commiserates on young Ben. The character was also unfairly killed off despite being the most popular in the entire trilogy and having a whole life ahead of him and the LFL Story Group was similarly pissed by this decision as they always envisioned him as surviving. When the last Skywalker has been killed off ending the line forever, that isn't a happy ending at all like JJ Abrams claims. His death also has no weight because Rey doesn't get even one second to mourn him. JJ wanted that happy ending so he sweeps his death away and Rey acts like nothing ever occurred.

Everything you said is exactly why Disney's Peter Pan is a bastardization of JM Barrie's Peter and Wendy.

It's a tradition but it was never intended from the beginning to be that way. In fact, JM Barrie's original casting was that Captain Hook and Mrs. Darling would be played by the same actor but a last minute change is what caused Mr. Darling to be the same as Hook and everyone has read into that ever since and copied it, even though it was purely by accident. Considering that Peter's issue is with mothers, not fathers, I prefer JM Barrie's choice to make Mrs. Darling the villain's doppelganger. It is the mother figure that causes the Lost Boys and the Darling children to desert Peter and she is also the one who reaches out to Peter at the end and asks him to stay with her as well.

Oh. Well...ok...I didn't know all that about Star Wars and...I didn't like any Star Wars movie other than the originals, so...you know...I just think it was all one big mess and I'm sorry but Adam didn't seem to be treated any worse than all of Star Warsdom.

What you said about the mother figure being Hook is amazing! :o

That thing about Hook orginally being played by the same actor as Miss Darling is SUPER interesting :o

I never know.

In the original production of play was Wendy’s mother playe by actually woman or a man in drag ? 8) 8) :? :?

If the former than the Hook role would have been originated by a woman  :o :o

That would have been interesting :D

You have to be a ST fan to understand particularly his importance in the mythology and Joseph Campbell's Hero's Journey. There's a reason general audiences were shocked by his death and felt he shouldn't have died. Particularly children, amongst whom Kylo Ren was a favorite, as also seen at Galaxy's Edge.

I'm not sure if Barrie wanted Mrs. Darling and Hook to be played by the same actor specifically because both characters were Peter's archenemies.

Yes, Hook would have been played by a woman then. From the Annotated Peter Pan...
"Barrie had originally planned to have Dorothea Baird, the actress playing Mrs. Darling, also play Hook, but Gerald du Maurier, who played the first Hook onstage, persuaded the playwright to give him the double role."

BTW that is the same du Maurier who is the father of Daphne du Maurier (author of Rebecca). Gerald du Maurier was the brother of the mother of the five boys who inspired Peter Pan and who J.M. Barrie adopted after their parents' passing. The same mother portrayed by Kate Winslet in Finding Neverland, so she was the aunt of Daphne du Maurier and Daphne was cousins with the five Llewelyn Davies who inspired Peter Pan.
