Re: Comparing Home Releases Cover Arts
I've never seen that MTR Japanese DVD cover!! I really like it. I like it better than the DVD cover (although there's nothing wrong with that cover, just kind of blah), then the Blu-ray cover, then the Heroes.

Yeah, that Japanese cover is adorable. It and the Zavvi cover are easily the best for this film.blackcauldron85 wrote:I've never seen that MTR Japanese DVD cover!! I really like it. I do like that picture of Lewis on the UK Blu-ray (Preliminary Cover) though. I almost wonder if the Lewis inside the bubble on the Japanese and Zavvi covers is the same image, only far away?

The Meet the Robinsons Zavvi Steelbook and French Heroes Cover may be second and third in my ranking now.

Re: Comparing Home Releases Cover Arts
Hey everyone,
I'll be honest: I don't feel equipped to judge these covers. I have never seen MTR, and I have no clue what it's about, so don't know if these reflect the movie well at all.
And these covers aren't drawn, so I can't judge the artistry in them, or even the anatomy or perspective. If the characters look off, it's cause the models used for the actual film were off.
Not sure which upcoming films had multiple covers...I know Frozen did get a lot of interesting covers, so we can all look forward to that.

There have been many rereleases or editions to all the films since The Princess and the Frog.Marce82 wrote:Hey everyone,

Here's my ranking for Meet the Robinsons:
1. Japanese DVD: I hadn't seen this cover before now. The use they've given the bubbles here (that in the film are just a means of transport) is interesting. I like how it represents the longing Lewis has for a family. It's true that it's a bit busy, as Disney Duster said, but I quite like it.
2. Zavvi Steelbook: This one's less busy than the previous one, but I prefer the arrangement of the elements in the Japanese DVD.
3. DVD: It's not bad, but not very interesting either.
4. French Heroes Cover
5. Heroes Cover
6. Blu-ray: I still don't like the silver arc, but at least here the composition works well with that shape. It seems they took it into account when they designed the artwork.
7. UK Blu-ray (Preliminary Cover)

Yes, there is. But he doesn't look like that in the movie.Marce82 wrote:2) dvd/vhs/bluray: Sorry, but the blu ray is pretty much the same cover, with a couple of additions. It's an ok cover. Nothing bad about it. I don't like the pose they picked for Chicken Little... he looks completely androgynous. He very well could be female in this image, which we know he is not. Was there a scene where he is interviewed by the media?
I don't like the character design of this movie either. I remember the director said in an interview that they tried to make it look in the style of classic Disney films like Cinderella. If that's true, they really failed to achieve it, in my opinion. It doesn't look very Disney to me.Marce82 wrote:4) Heroes (UK): bland. And it TRULY shows what awful character design this movie has. It looks disturbing in the eyes... and teeth (omg, they predated the whole Zonic debacle by over 10 years!).
Yes, it's the same pose of him.Disney's Divinity wrote:I do like that picture of Lewis on the UK Blu-ray (Preliminary Cover) though. I almost wonder if the Lewis inside the bubble on the Japanese and Zavvi covers is the same image, only far away?

Re: Comparing Home Releases Cover Arts
The covers have gotten really lame for the past few films.
Mittens is my favorite character from this film so I like the DVD cover, particularly the Japanese one. The "villain" isn't even real to warrant including like on the US cover and Penny isn't as awkwardly thrust to the back. I don't care much for the logo or the cloud image of Penny and Bolt at the top though. The US DVD cover was better in that regard.

Bolt:
1. Blu-ray (second edition) - Bolt looks soooo cute here! So does the hamster!
2. Heroes Cover (France) - I just like the pose with that background.
3. Collectible Tin
4. Zavvi Steelbook
5. DVD/Blu-ray
6. Heroes Cover (UK)
7. DVD (Japan) - Way too busy and awkward with the cloud up top similar to what JeanGreyForever said.

Re: Comparing Home Releases Cover Arts
Mittens is my favorite, too. I feel similarly about Calico but technically he counts as a villain, so it's not a horrible choice. I really like this film, but the covers are just so clip-arty...

Re: Comparing Home Releases Cover Arts
Honestly, I couldn't even remember Calico's name until you mentioned it. I haven't seen Bolt in a few years now (they don't show it regularly on Disney Channel anymore I think like they used to) but doesn't he only appear in the beginning? I know Bolt mentions him throughout the film since he believes Calico is real and I think there's some sort of nightmare featuring him but I don't remember him having a really strong presence in the film. Something more like the Ringmaster from Dumbo.

Re: Comparing Home Releases Cover Arts
Yes. Calico is just the "fictional" villain within the BOLT TV show. I do not recall the character being in any way integral to the film's plot. The movie is, after all, about the real world and not the make-believe world of the TV show, so I believe the filmmakers made the right choice in limiting Calico's screen time.JeanGreyForever wrote:Honestly, I couldn't even remember Calico's name until you mentioned it. The Blu-ray cover and the Heroes cover (France) are the only two that I like, although Bolt’s expressions are different. I think I prefer his expression on the Heroes cover, since it reminds me of the character more than the blank happy face of the Blu-ray.

I've been visiting this thread since its inception yet I don't think I ever commented on the covers!Disney's Divinity wrote:The Blu-ray cover and the Heroes cover (France) are the only two that I like, although Bolt’s expressions are different. I'll say that in this case I feel the regular Blu-ray/DVD of BOLT has the best cover, and not in the sense that it's the "least awful". I genuinely like it! I like the "hot" colour scheme as well as the way your eyes are drawn to the centre with the background and foreground in perspective. The CG models are posed dynamically and effectively. It looks good!
I don't mind Calico's appearance on the cover.
Re: Comparing Home Releases Cover Arts
I agree with everything you said. That's my favorite cover as well and I think it's a good one. I don't mind that Calico is on it either. However, I don't like any of the other covers much. Here's my ranking:Jules wrote:I'll say that in this case I feel the regular Blu-ray/DVD of BOLT has the best cover, and not in the sense that it's the "least awful". I genuinely like it! 1. DVD/Blu-ray: What Jules said.
2. DVD (Japan): It's interesting how they tried to showcase the heart of the film and also give more prominence to Penny, but I don't think it's too successful. The bottom half is fine, but that cloud image at the top is a weird addition, as others have said.
3. Heroes Cover (France): Not too original, but I like Bolt's action pose.
4. Collectible Tin: Bolt's pose here is bland, but at least the background makes it look more interesting.
5. Heroes Cover (UK)
6. Blu-ray (second edition): I don't like Bolt's expression here.
7. Zavvi Steelbook: I think this must be the first time I rank the Zavvi Steelbook last. Apart from the bland pose, I find it too simple and I don't like the background. Couldn't they have found something more interesting than a crane for it?

Re: Comparing Home Releases Cover Arts
1. Zavvi Steelbook: I think it was a theatrical poster and it looks gorgeous.
2. DVD: I always had a fondness to it, maybe because it is similar to The Little Mermaid's cover.
3. Blu-ray (UK): something about the way they placed the characters feels off, I like the US covers more.
4. 4K Best Buy Exclusive: not really a fan of these types of covers, it's nice enough, but I like full backgrounds more.
5. Heroes Cover (France): at least there's an attempt to make background.
6. DVD + Book Edition (Spain): Nothing really to say about this. Not a fan.
7. 4K UHD: sigh really? I mean if they wanted to be lazy, couldn't they at least reused a background instead of this? At least they used good clip arts for Tiana and Naveen.
8. DVD + CD Edition (Mexico): I don't know why, but something about it feels cheap.
9. Disney Princess Cover Series (Australia): it's a nice moment from the film, but again Tiana looks nothing like herself.
10. Blu-ray 2 - background is nice, but Tiana ruins it, that's just not her. I thought we were past the off model phase, guess I was wrong.
