Re: “Hamilton” moved up, coming to Disney+ July 3rd 2020
I was beginning to wonder if they might sacrifice Hamilton to feed Disney+ for new content during the Covid-19 pandemic. Well, now we know. This probably means no theatrical release, or if there still is one, a much smaller release ala Fathom Events.
Looking forward to watching the original Broadway cast, though!!!

That just shows how Disney has become very secretive about the making of its new projects!
..
I’m still very happy we get it sooner than expected
..
(...with no digital purchase? Direct-to-Disney+? It’s a bit surprising to me)

While that's true in general, it doesn't really apply in this case since the stage show was filmed years before without Disney's involvement. They just bought the distribution rights recently.Clindor wrote:That just shows how Disney has become very secretive about the making of its new projects!

OMG! I naively thought this project was about making a live-action adaptation of the stage musical, not a recording of the show!Sotiris wrote:While that's true in general, it doesn't really apply in this case since the stage show was filmed years before without Disney's involvement. I have no idea why, but I feel like this is out of character on Disney’s part to send it to Disney+. Especially since I don’t think the show itself would be considered...
Well....
“Disney friendly”.

Re: “Hamilton” moved up, coming to Disney+ July 3rd 2020
To be honest, I'm a little confused as to what Disney considers appropriate or not for their service. I know f-words are forbidden (they're using the tv-edit of "Adventures in Babysitting" precisely for this reason) as are hardcore scenes, because duh. But then Disney+ has The Simpsons, which is known for its risque comedy. Plenty of the action movies on Disney+ are pretty violent. I recently watched "Never Been Kissed" on Disney+ and all of the frank discussions the characters engage in were as left unedited.
I guess their stance is anything up to PG-13 is okay and if there's something we object to (like Elizabeth Shue dropping a f-word in "Adventures in Babysitting" and apparently Daryl Hannah's behind in "Splash"), we can just edit it out. We already know the version of "Hamilton" on Disney+ omits the show's use of f-words.

The MCU films never use the f word but the language isn't always super clean in those films either. I'm thinking particularly of Iron Man 3. And POTC3 opens with a child being hung.

It's not you. There's a glitch in the software which prevent videos from being embedded.rodrigo_ca wrote:well it seems that I just can't make the embed video work![]()

There's confusion on Twitter (and probably elsewhere) about if this only shows on July 3rd and then is removed from D+ (maybe to come later) or if it just premieres July 3rd and will stream for a while...

Disney wouldn't spend $75 million to have it on their service for a day. It's going to stay there for a long time, if not indefinitely.

^ Yeah, that's the only thing that makes sense. My mom thought it meant it only airs one day, and I said that D+ isn't like broadcast TV, that it will be there for a while, but then reading people's confusion on Twitter, I questioned it! Thanks

There’s something very strange about seeing the Disney logo in front of that Hamilton trailer. But I’m very excited to watch the show next month!

I thought so too. At least the Disney name isn't placed above the title like other Disney-branded projects. That's something.UmbrellaFish wrote:There’s something very strange about seeing the Disney logo in front of that Hamilton trailer.
