https://d23.com/just-announced-new-docu ... 3-members/June is a special month for our friends at the Walt Disney ArchivesâJune 22 will mark the 50th anniversary of the Archivesâ founding! Weâre throwing a celebration for this milestone anniversary, including a very special debutâthe premiere of the new documentary Adventure Thru the Walt Disney Archives, which celebrates the lasting legacy of the Archives and provides an inside look at rarely seen treasures from the extensive collection. The film, hosted by legendary producer Don Hahn (Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Maleficent), will premiere on D23.com exclusively for D23 Gold Members on June 27.
Adventure Thru the Walt Disney Archives celebrates every part of Disney we loveâthrough the lens of the Walt Disney Archives, its history, and its collection. Everything from Disney theme parks to the Studio lot is examined through an engaging, historical lens, as Hahn speaks with Walt Disney Archives Director Becky Cline and other members of the Archives team. Each stop on the adventure offers a look at some of the iconic treasures that have played a role in shaping The Walt Disney Company. The film, directed by John Gleim, features new interviews with Disney Executive Chairman Bob Iger, Marvel Studiosâ Kevin Feige, Pixarâs Pete Docter, film historian Leonard Maltin, and many more.
âMaking this film was my Disney âfanboyâ dream come true,â says Hahn. âThe Walt Disney Archives is packed with hidden treasures, and I had incredible access to them all.â
This morning, D23 revealed the new poster for Adventure Thru the Walt Disney Archives at the end of a thread on Twitter that featured 50 remarkable items from the Archives collection.

Adventure Thru the Walt Disney Archives
Couldnât fit it in the title, but the documentary will debut exclusively to D23 members. No mention of a release to the wider public, which has me a bit pressed.

Re: âAdventure Thru the Walt Disney Archivesâ doc coming to
The announcement on Twitter was preceded by this really wonderful thread showing off some real gems from the Disney Archives: https://twitter.com/disneyd23/status/12 ... 45890?s=21. Prop books from Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, and Hocus Pocus; Fess Parkerâs coonskin cap; Giselleâs wedding gown; retired animatronics. The coronation crown from PDII! And lots, lots more.

Now that would have made me want to get Disney Plus, but of course of course it's an exclusive. And they still haven't released Howard yet.

Re: Adventure Thru the Walt Disney Archives
That's great to hear! At least they make quality content as well and not just that Olaf crap.
Re: Adventure Thru the Walt Disney Archives
I finally had a chance to watch it and I thought it was interesting and informative. At this point the only new quality content that Disney releases nowadays is these documentaries - Howard, Disney Archives and The Story of a Mouse have all been great. Too bad they are too few to justify a subscription to the service.

Re: Adventure Thru the Walt Disney Archives
I saw that, Sotiris. It made me sad and angry that even the Archives for goodness sake is going âwokeâ. âSensitivityâ issues for modern audiences is such crap. The Archives seems to be doomed...

Re: Adventure Thru the Walt Disney Archives
I thought the video was going to say Disney was destroying pieces from Song of the South, or of Sunflower, or the Neverland Indians⌠but the âWalt canât smoke cigarettes in photosâ thing was a thing even when I worked at the parks 5, 4 years ago. There are lots of pictures of Walt backstage and one of my favorite past times was to guess which ones had a cigarette edited out of his hands. I imagine many of those other rules are old too (I remember during my training Disney made a point to say that they never release their balloons into the environment⌠I think that must have been a training about environmental impact because I never worked a job anywhere near handling those enormous bundles of balloons!). It is a shame that Disney is cutting back staff in the Archives department and there have been layoffs across the company.
Disney is a corporation and they have for a long time been editing their history to appeal to the public. To attribute it to âwokeismâ and âleftismâ is reactionary. Disney has been actively cultivating a positive image of the company and its founder for decades, and they have always used the Archives in service of that.
