Re: Favorite Live Action Films
I have a Fav Films list I keep saved in a document to work on occasionally when I'm in the mood for working on lists. Just because I often think of something to add later and always feel unsure about the ranking to ever be done with it. I had always thought I'd post it in the TV-Film Discussion thread whenever / IF ever I'd finished it.
So I just took part of that and posted it here. I didn't number them, because it's sort of a soft placement for me with most of these; they could easily shift around a little depending on the day.
Moulin Rouge!
The First Wives Club
Call Me by Your Name
Gone With the Wind
Steel Magnolias
The Devil Wears Prada
Nanny McPhee
I Think I Do
Murder, She Said ~ I'm letting this stand for all of the 4-film Murder series.. I enjoy these just because I love to watch Margaret Rutherford. The way she moves is just so much fun for some reason.
Stardust
Transamerica
Beautiful Thing
The Fifth Element
Interview With a Vampire
Poltergeist (1982)
Cruel Intentions
Ever After
Hocus Pocus
Paddington / Paddington 2
American Beauty
Little Women (1949)
The Dark Knight
The Wizard of Oz
Maurice

Mean Girls
The Virgin Queen
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets

As Good As It Gets
Labyrinth
Erin Brockovich
Elizabeth
And I know it's not a movie, but I always had a taped version of the "Forever Blue" episode of Cold Case. That's something I often get the mood to watch. I don't really like adultery in stories, still I can't help loving that episode and cry at the end.

I grew up with the Ernest movies too, although I do not remember them super well. My favorite Jim Varney is The Beverly Hillbillies Movie (although admittedly I haven’t seen this in a long time either). To me, that cast (which is really A++) is more the cast of the Beverly Hillbillies than the original sitcom stars. Plus it has that great Dolly Parton cameo. I like to listen to the full song on YouTube occasionally. https://youtu.be/kmKbJAH_bB4

I have a weird list. I only think of my first few favorites. I mean I have a lot of favorites of course, but I can't think of too many all at once, so here are just the top ones.
EDIT: Other people reminded me how much I love the It's!
1. Cinderella (2015)
2. The Wizard of Oz
3. The Wiz
4. Cats (1998)
5. Into the Woods (1991)
6. Enchanted
7. Into the Woods (2014)
8. Beauty and the Beast (2017)
9. The Witches (1990)
10. The Shining (1980)
11. It (2017)
12. It: Chapter 2 (2019)
13. It (1990)
There could be some films inserted after Cats and before the rest, but, I think this covers my top favorites.

Re: Favorite Live Action Films
Because I'm a data nerd, I wanted to make a breakdown of what we have so far. (When I have time I also want to look at different "best of" movies lists to see how many of our favorites are on those, including our own Luke's Century Project, when that's completed!)
Out of 7 members so far:
6- The Wizard of Oz
4- Titanic, Enchanted
3- The Silence of the Lambs, The Shining, LOTR, Mary Poppins, Gone With the Wind, Ever After
2- V for Vendetta, The Parent Trap, The Hunger Games, The Devil Wears Prada, The Dark Knight, The Craft, TCON: TL,TW,&tW, Stardust, Star Wars, POTC, Paddington1/2, Mrs. Doubtfire, Misery, Mean Girls, Legally Blonde, Knives Out, Interview w/ the Vampire, Harry Potter, Casper, Bedknobs & Broomsticks, Australia

Re: Favorite Live Action Films
No surprise to see The Wizard of Oz so beloved. I haven't been able to see Knives Out yet unfortunately.
There's actually quite a few on Mooky's list (Crimson Peak, Ghost, Hereditary, It, Mrs. Doubtfire, Rosemary's Baby, several X-Men films) that I cut off mine to keep it, ahem, short... Ish. It's funny that I like more scary films than I thought. Insidious and Drag Me to Hell are two others farther down my list, although they both give me the creeps. I rarely watch horror films, but I can appreciate a good one when I'm in the right mood for it.

Re: Favorite Live Action Films
About three years back, Zack asked his friends for film recommendations, so I decided to be Extra and gave him a list of my favorite film from every year since 1920. From that list of 98 films, these five have been my favorite films of all time for probably the past 15 years or so:
01. The Ten Commandments (1956)
02. Casablanca (1942)
03. Beauty and the Beast (1991) (Animated Film)
04. Aladdin (1992) (Animated Film)
05. Somewhere in Time (1980)
And if I had to pick on a whim, the next five to make it a Top 10, it'd probably look like this right now:
06. Gilda (1946)
07. Empire of the Sun (1987)
08. Ghost (1990)
09. When Harry Met Sally... (1989)
10. Sing Street (2016)
Finally, ten more, from ten different years not represented:
11. Call Me By Your Name (2017)
12. A Place in the Sun (1951)

Surprising to see Enchanted with nearly as many votes as The Wizard of Oz and Titanic, but it is a Disney forum.blackcauldron85 wrote:^ I was hoping you'd contribute!

Re: Favorite Live Action Films
I did want to say that both Valerian, Legally Blonde, & Twilight were on my initial list, but they got booted for space, so I am glad to see them on other people's lists!

I need to get back to work...sometimes sequels/series only have one or two movies listed by someone (for example, Paddington 1 & 2 has 2 votes, Paddington 1 has one vote), so I tried by memory putting some of those separately but I'm sure I missed some because I'm on a time crunch...

Re: Favorite Live Action Films
Thank you for taking the time to assemble a list like this! It's great to see all the commonalities. I also forgot to point out that the first few films in my list are all franchises so I meant to group them that way. So when I put Paddington in my list, I meant it as the Paddington franchise as a whole including both films and not just the first film. That was my bad for not specifying.

Re: Favorite Live Action Films
I like the Pitch Perfect's and The Princess Diaries as well. Out of all of those I mostly love the first and second Pitch Perfect though.

I won't lie, there's a good amount of movies here that I haven't thought about in years, and a couple I'd rerank differently. But each made some kind of impact on me, and I'd probably use this as a reference for films I'd recommend if you want to see something different.
I've also noticed that I've become more conservative with my rankings. I've given few perfect scores to new films over the past couple of years. And I know that a couple of these didn't get my rankings the first time I saw them- Fury Road was only 4 1/2 stars when I saw it in theaters. Same with Zootopia, which I left out here to just focus on live-action.
Also, I've seen 65 out of 100 of Escapay's movies, woot woot.
