Amazon is selling GWTW 4-discer for $20.00 while the 2-discer is pre-order $14.00. I guessing the 2-discer is just the movie without all the extra material of "Making of GWTW" and the several biographies of the stars. I have just ordered the 4-discer because I do love the movie.

If you are buyng because it is a classic but you don't love the movie, then the $14.00 might be the way to go.

On another note, Warner Brothers must need some quick cash because most of their cataloge is on sale on Amazon.

are they planning to get rid of the 4 disc version? I've seen it for $20 lately, and I'm sure the 2 disc will be $15 or so.

I would go ahead and pickup the 4 disc now if you want the movie.

Wal-Mart is selling the four-disc version for $19.86. The two-disc version is going to be a stripped down version of the four-disc set. To the best of my knowledge there will be only two extra features on the two-disc set, one is a trailer and the other is a 'featurette-version' of the "Making of GWTW".

I bought the 4-disc just because I like the 'stuff' that comes on the extra two-discs. The movie is in my personal top ten list of Best Movies of all time.

I purchased the Gone with the Wind 4 disc last weekend for $19.99 at Target. This is a great movie with really good extras. If you have the money, I would get the 4 disc. The 2 disc will probably have no special features and only be a little bit cheaper.

I would go for the 4 disc set. I would recommend it to anyone. One of my favorite dvd sets. The 2 hour making of and the features on the cast were excellent. Definitely worth the money, especially for $20.

I bought this movie for 19.99 at Strawberries and although I haven't viewed any of hte discs yet, I have seen Gone with the Wind before and would say that its an incredible movie. Plus the two disc set probably isn't going to cost less than ten dollars and you're much buying the four disc at walmart for $19.86

I've been looking on different websites trying to see how much Gone With the Wind would be on DVD, since I'm just now upgrading my non-Disney movies from VHS to DVD. It seems like GWtW is OOP. Has anyone heard of a new edition coming out sometime soon?

It's coming to Blu-ray in 2009; may very well be accompanied by a new DVD release at that time.

Thanks, Aaron! I hope it'll come out on standard DVD...if not, the used prices aren't horrible.

HBO Max is temporarily removing GWtW so they can create some contextual material:

It's understandable though people make a fuss about it even when Warner clarified that it's temporary. People have noticed that Blu-ray sales rose so maybe that will give an incentive for Warner to release it in 4K.

The only thing disappointing about this move is the fact that a disclaimer or contextual information wasn’t already included when the movie began streaming on HBO Max.

Lol

Like you said earlier, I hope this leads Warner Bros to release a 4K edition. It really should have come out last year with WoZ to commemorate the 80th— it’s so weird that they skipped out on giving it a 4K release, but I’m also pretty sure Gone With the Wind was used in some of HBO Max’s pre-launch advertising and very little other classic media was.

They've deleted that promo that featured shots from the film a moment ago.

I do hope for a 4K release but now I worry that WB might fear releasing it because of a possible outrage. Though on the other hand they might not want to pass on a chance to make money.

I doubt it. I mean, GWTW is coming back to HBO Max eventually, just with a disclaimer and other context provided after all. Nobody really cares about physical media anymore except collectors so I think a 4K release would go mostly under the radar in the media while making WB a decent buck.
