For what it's worth, Esmeralda is great. I have always liked her. I just want actual princesses in. Is there a link to the Japan Disney Store?

That's a shame cause I think you can learn a lot from Cinderella about how to keep being good natured and kind while people treat you terribly. There's more strength in that than in devolving into being petty and spiteful.

One question. I've been searching info about the Snow White Poster where She wears a Pink Gown. Does anybody know why they did it to her? I believe that they made it to make her look more like a typical princess and to sell merchandise but It doesn't have any sense because in the movie she doesn't wear a pink gown like other Princesses do like Aurora, Ariel or Cinderella.

I've wondered that as well. Sometimes Disney colorists just change the colors for no reason, the same way Eilonwy has a blue dress in some Black Cauldron art even though her movie color scheme would be considered more "feminine." Snow White's dress changes colors in posters a lot and the dwarfs are never consistent either, save for Dopey.

Esmeralda probably got removed because of her sex appeal. She dances provocatively, Frollo has sexual fantasies about her...She must not have been deemed wholesome enough for the line-up.

Sorry for bumping this thread, but I wanted to get my thoughts. Even though Esmeralda dances provocatively, it`s still way toned down and not as provocatively as it could`ve been.

I love Esmeralda's design and personality. She's a great character all around. I'm surprised in the novel her eyes were black given the meaning of her name. I'm glad Disney gave her emerald eyes. They're very striking and contrast well with her darker complexion.

Agreed, she`s a great character, indeed. I love her design and personality (even though I wish that she had longer hair). And frankly, I think that she has a more definite personality than most of her counterparts (not to discredit them).

I think Merida you could easily take out of the franschise without people getting angry.

People would definitely be angry. You're underestimating online outrage culture. I think it would draw a huge backlash. People would accuse Disney of being sexist for removing the only princess who's a tomboy, doesn't sing and doesn't have a love interest. It would open a whole can of worms.

True. Regardless of the different opinions regarding Brave, at least Merida has her fans for being all those things you`ve mentioned. And plus, let`s not forget about the fuzz of her redesign.

Esmeralda was an official Disney Princess in 2004, she was removed because she wasn’t selling as good like the others in the franchise like the others where so Disney crossed her off the list for that reason.
Jane Porter was originally considered as the newest Disney Princess in 1999, not long after the Disney Princess franchise started, she was ultimately removed likely because her dress color scheme was too similar to Belle's so she was removed for that reason so nobody would confuse her for Belle or confusing Belle for Jane Porter.

I can believe that about Jane being removed because her dress clashed with Belle's. It's the same reason Tiana is mostly in her green dress rather than the blue and Aurora often in pink rather than the superior blue, because Cinderella is THE blue dress (nevermind it's silver in the original film... *grumblegrumble*).

The actual reason of Jane being removed was because Disney lost the rights to merchandising when it comes to Tarzan. The Burroughs estate want more money and Disney being Disney refuse to give it to them. That's why, when Disney store released dolls of Esmeralda and Giselle last year, they were unable to release a doll for Jane as even though Ken Duncan designed the character, she still represents a character from the novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs. They were able to strike a deal with Amy Adams for Giselle, probably because the sequel for Enchanted is now in the works but I don't think Jane will ever be part of the line.

I was talking about that as well. Tarzan's products were only allowed when the film was released in theatre and VHS.

I can't say I agree, since I remember seeing Jane on DP merchandise several years after Tarzan was old news. The film was even used in Kingdom Hearts in 2003, and by that time Jane was no longer a part of DP merch. That's probably why she wasn't used as a Princess of Heart instead of Alice in that game.

My English friends say that in the UK Jasmine's official color is pink. She looks gorgeous!!!
