I don't usually post fanart, but since it's going to take quite some time until we get our first official look, I thought I'd post some. There are already tons of fanart and fan-edits of Halle Bailey as Ariel, but this is one of my favorites. If we get something that looks half as good as this, I'd be thrilled. At the moment, I'm keeping my expectations low.

Yes, I liked what they did with the bra and the tail, and the ornament in her hair. I don't think the hair will be that color though... I'm expecting Bailey will have her natural hair color in the film.

Oh I definitely expect her to have red hair. I think Disney knows the casting backlash would be worse if she didn’t have red hair. Plus she has been hiding her hair in recent Instagram posts. However I wouldn’t be surprised if she has red dreadlocks instead of flowing red hair. I’m not sure visually how that would look underwater. It may be a little snake like. So I’m hoping they go with something like that art. Natural waves. I think it would visually be beautiful, especially since they’re CGI’ing the hair underwater

I would like to believe that... I still think at most her hair will have a slightly orange tint to it, maybe superimposed digitally so she won't have to dye anything? Yeah, I definitely expect the look to be her natural hairstyle whatever the color, not flowing hair. Too bad.

Agreed with Divinity about the picture and agreed with nomad2010 about the hair.

Sotiris, damn, can this film please look like that?!!!

I really HOPED Ariana Grande would play Live Action Ariel :(

Sad she din't get the role

Also i think youtuber Grace Randolph is full of CRAP  when she said "the animated movie is set in Caribbean " It's NOT IT , It might be Danmark !! But mostly like a european fictional fairy tale kingdom !!

That comment from her made me soooo annoyed :x :x :x

But Baily might be good too i am still hopefull :D :D

Much of this movie's success will depend on if they get triton and Ursula right ( in my opinion) They have most of the heavy drama and all the great slightly hinted at backstory !

And Ursula is so entertaining she seals most of the animated movie !! :D :D :D rotfl rotfl

I agree that Ursula is a big selling point of this film, DisneyFan97. Over the years, even the handful of posters I've interacted with that hated Ariel all thought Ursula was fantastic.

Even though he's not currently on set, Hauer-King hasn't been sitting idle at home. After being cast as Prince Eric in Disney's upcoming live-action "The Little Mermaid," he's had plenty of time to study his part. "I know that script so well now. I've had so much time," he said. "I could do every part. I could do I could say everyone's lines."

In celebration of Mermay, a little fan art I created for the live action version of The Little Mermaid. Hope you like it :) I might try to do a visual of Melissa as Ursula as well :D

How pretty! Thank you for sharing!! I love the seashells in her hair.

I don’t know if anyone noticed, but in the Disney Sing Along event Halle Bailey had clearly cut a large portion of her dreadlocks off which leads me to believe they are going to wig her for the movie. So I would expect we probably won’t be seeing dreadlocks on Ariel. I’m still betting they go with loose waves, but I also wouldn’t be shocked if they tried replicating Ariel’s hair from the animated.

I think I read somewhere that the hair will be done digitally, they might put Halle in a skullcap to hide her hair so they can put markers on her head in order to match the digital hair to her head. I wonder what that means for the above water shots, if she'll get a wig then or go with her natural hair and hair pieces. I personally think the solid shapes of dreads might look more interesting and beautiful under water then a lump of flowing hair. We'll have to wait and see I guess...

@robster16 - that's stunning! You're so talented. I hope she looks like that in the film.

I wouldn't be surprised if they CGI her hair because in Marvel's Endgame, Brie Larson's hair for the first part of the film was completely CGI.

It makes sense that they would CGI her hair to get the underwater effect.

As promised, Melissa McCarthy as Ursula. I used one of the previously posted wig tests they did for Ursula's hair in the movie. I hope you guys like it!

Oooh!!! Again, great job! Very clever to use the real wig tests we’ve seen already too!!! Also the tentacles look so much creepier with all that detail... Truly unsettling.

This is giving me Fairy Godmother from Shrek 2 vibes. I think it’s McCarthy’s face shape combined with the wig.
